  1. March 2007 was the month mentioned where Astrodome Redevelopment was told to make an announcement as to what will or should be done. It's promising news so far from the posters here, but I hope we hear something more concrete from Houston Chronicle, Reliant Park, or the Redevelopment website if there is one. If this hotel goes through, it give Houston a better chance at hosting another Super Bowl, or even bigger, become a stronger candidate to become one of the host cities for the 2014 or 2018 World Cup if the U.S. wins the bid. I also wonder what events the new Astrodome itself would host. I'm sure the Astrodome Hotel's middle would be part of RodeoHouston's event list, right? Perhaps hold the livestock auctions while the display remains in the AstroArena/Hall?
  2. Yo, if Hard Rock Cafe were to move to HP, what would Bayou Place be like after HP opened? Who do you think Bayou Place would announce as a big-name tenant to replace HRC?
  3. I recieved word-on-the-street that another location outside East End may be in consideration for the soccer complex. I'm going to hold off until I know the info's legitimate, but I think the whole city would like it...
  4. That's part of the reason why it's difficult to see Carr end up on their teams. (except the Panthers, perhaps) But they have Delhomme. Didn't he take them to the Super Bowl a couple years ago?
  5. I'm with U on that one... About Gus Wortham, if it stays as a 18-hole golf course, will it be profitable for Houston? Also, why couldn't Dynamo and Houston purchase land in the Warehouse District for a stadium, while a suburb like Pearland or Sugarland build the practice fields and main field with stands for the team? Then, that main field could be used for Pearland or Fort Bend's high-school soccer home games, Houston would have one of the best soccer stadiums and locations in America, Dynamo would be taping into two markets, and Houston wouldn't have to look for locations for so much land to purchase. Houston's a big-league town. I just can't see Houstonians supporting a suburb-located team in any sport.
  6. I think soccer in Reliant Park would be a big success for soccer(Astrodome or another stadium), but the question would be how AEG would get naming rights money for the stadium if they played at the county-owned Dome. This is another reason why it's important to know the fate of the Dome-hotel plan in the next few weeks. If that falls through, something has to be done, and perhaps the best bet would be to revamp the dome with $100 Million instead of paying for demolition. I'm sure more Houstonians want to see the Dome revamped than tore down, and with MLS's major surge this past off-season, they could turn the Dome into a 30,000 soccer-specific stadium with room for major internal expansion. I think for that to happen, AEG would have to buy out the dome from the county.
  7. I think if any high school stadium were to be converted to be Dynamo's new home, it'd be Delmar because of their location. And I think it's a much better deal for soccer AND Houston if it were there than in a suburb where it takes at least 25 minutes to get there from Downtown. That being said, the stadium has to be soccer-specific, football-second, and the high schools calling it home would have to respect that by understanding that the team gets priority when it comes to scheduling. But having it football-first would be pointless to build and a waste of money if the high school teams already have a stadium. That's why it's probably better if it's a soccer/concert/convention stadium in Houston with no regular-season football involved. Dynamo would probably play there nine months a year, and exibitions/tournaments could take place there year-around when it isn't the US vs. Mexico, major EPL tours, or major cups coming to town (in those cases, it'd have to be in Reliant)
  8. If the Astros, Texans, or Rockets knew they couldn't have as high attendance in an another city like Pearland while calling it "Houston", how or why would Dynamo even consider it? That'd be the dumbest business decision in the history of Houston-area sports.
  9. It's a stupid idea. In an area like Pearland, if they had a Houston-named professional team in the same stadium as one or some of their own high-school football teams, they would probably try to claim it football-first, soccer second, totally defeating the purpose. The soccer stadium needs to be near Houston's center, and should be used for Houston events when soccer isn't being plaed there. And these days, Dynamo's playing more months a year and more major tournaments than any other team in Houston, so the stadium would be highly used. But this is Houston's team, not Pearland's.
  10. I'm with TJones; welcome to HAIF Are you sure that "Every neighborhood around it is firmly opposed to the idea" of having soccer fields on Gus Wortham instead of a golf course? I've talked to a couple friends in the East End area, and it sounds more like a 50-50 split. They all wanted more soccer fields in the area, but the Gus Wortham site itself sounds more like a "depends on who you ask" than a "everyone here is opposed or supporting it"
  11. The issue here is more about the future of the Gus Wortham golf site than about soccer. If there were higher occupancy the past few years there, there probably wouldn't be an arguement. Even after a $6 Million renovation for the golf site, would more people play there? I personally think there's not enough quality youth/adult fields for quite a number of sports in some areas of Houston including soccer. Football for example. Some youth leagues have a problem finding places for their kids to practice. Baseball and basketball at time, too. Not everyone can play when they want. Soccer is probably has the most popular youth-leagues of all sports, so I'm guessing that's why they call it a soccer project even though a baseball field is included in the talks.
  12. Out of everythning in that statement, I agree with one sentence. "People will show up when the Texans start winning games". The Texans will start winning when they develop more than one way to win a game on a consistant basis. Changing the QB doesn't mean anything at this point, and shouldn't be a priority. And trading a 1st round veteran QB for a 4th rounder to Minnesota is a stupid trade for the Texans. Not worth it. I say if Plummer can still play, sign him. Have him compete with Carr. Only way we trade Carr is if we get an insane trading offer from another team (in other words, they give up more than us.) Other than that, the time to get rid of Carr was last year when you passed on Vince Young. That's over. Signing Plummer will not mean Young will magically appear and we start winning games. Start looking for DL and DE to compete with Williams and Ryans, veteran OL to compee for starting jobs, and RB to compete with whoever's healthy. Build a team where the opposing team can't guess your next coaching moves. Not just a QB.
  13. I'm just being realistic. Keeping Gus Wortham for "historical" purposes as is, is like keeping the Astrodome for historical purposes as is. Both are under-utilized and aren't making money for the city/county. Gus Wortham is meant to be a community location, not private. If it suits that area for soccer fields, so be it, and if more people in that area want to play golf there, so be it. How does losing golf or not having soccer fields at Gus Wortham mean that golf or soccer is diminishing in Houston? Neither are. Just have something there that the immediate community in East End would more appreciate between the two, that's all. Where is the arguement here? It's not that big a deal. Both a soccer complex and the current golf course are nice in East End. Ask the residents there which one they would more likely use, listen to the community, and make it happen. And if they said "I'd rather play soccer than golf", call it the Gus Wortham Soccer Complex. No integrity lost.
  14. R U saying that U.S. citizens in East End don't play soccer? I would probably say though that more people play soccer for recreation in the Houston-area (including East End), than golf.
  15. How many blocks will be between the two when both projectsare all fnished? Or will they almost be connected?
  16. If I'm not mistaken, Memorial City and Astroworld will both have mega-redevelopment projects of their own, too. That and the Downtown Park. Houston's gonna look real nice in 3 years when all five are complete.
  17. McNair and the Texans are too image-happy. Even if Randy Moss were a free-agent, there's no way McNair would want him on our team. Carr has a better image than Moss, and McNair likes that. Besides, like I said before, trading Carr won't get the Texans anywhere. We need a team of depth. Keep Carr, and have him and Rosenfel fight for the starting spot while you improve on DE, OL, RB, and pass coverage via fre-agency. Then pick the best athletes available in the draft. That's all they have to do. We need a Chicago Bears-type team. They made it to the Super Bowl because they're strong all over the field. I think Carr is a WAY better QB than Grossman. I don't think the Texans are that far from producing a high-depth team, but for that, stop looking to trade the starting QB, and start looking at all the god free-agents availabe that you don't have to trade for. And there's a lot of good free-agents this year.
  18. I think he does. Ching too. That's why it's so cool that they play for Dynamo, H-Town. Fox Sports ranked us as #30 in the world, which is pretty wild.
  19. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4548794.html Brian Ching just signed a contract extention with Dynamo! According to this, they're working on an extention contract for DeRo as well.
  20. Why would they? If the amount of people using the golf course is low as an 18-hole course, why would more people use it when it became a 9-hole? When I play golf, my friends and I always go to a 18-hole course minimum.
  21. Damn, I feel sorry for Dallas! Right after they announce Wade Phillips as their new coach, look who becomes available less than a week later... http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headli...ts/4548378.html
  22. I like Stallworth, and I hope we pursue him, but MAN would Rhodes be a good pick-up!
  23. In other related stadium news, Real Salt Lake and the state of Utah (MLS's smallest market), have just confirmed a new stadium deal. http://www.sltrib.com/ci_5186530 It's gonna be a mixed-use development in the suburb of Sandy. Great looking design, too. I'm happy for them. It was a crazy rollercoaster-ride for the city and state to pull off the deal, but they finally did it. It's also expected that San Jose and St. Louis will be the next two cities with MLS franchises in the next 3 years.
