  1. will the city allow the heavy equipment to remain on the property until the bankruptcy is resolved? What an eyesore! At least they could return the sidewalk to its original state.
  2. The implosion is scheduled for 7 a.m. Sunday. Houston police will have streets in a two-block radius of the implosion zone shut down. Project managers discourage anyone from coming down to see the implosion in person for safety reasons
  3. Perhaps the Four Season's hotel roof would prove to offer a good view. Too soon?
  4. Any suggestions on where to go for the best view? Planning to bike downtown and find the top of a near by garage. Looking for details to follow on road closures.
  5. So what's the plan for their White Oak location? Mix use retail/residential anyone?
  6. I attended a private event held in the Astrodome Suites and never knew Roy's kinky side. There was the jungle room (complete with trees and ropes), a Roman bath that could accommodate a dozen guests as well as a room with a film projector behind a mirror. Can't remember all suites, but those are the one I remember most.
  7. As for the other side, a well maintained swimming area similar to the Bellaire Aquatic Center would be on my wish list.
  8. Plus there's a Beck's Prime at the clubhouse. Nice place for lunch.
  9. Check out this website to see more plans for the bayou http://www.buffalobayou.org
  10. I guess I should have called this post save Buffalo Bayou in Memorial Park. Many RO residents enjoyed the privacy the bayou offered behind their homes and the country club. A mutual agreement was reached so they have bowed out. Ironic since many are behind "Trees for Houston" and have donated a handsome sum to reforest the park. I think I'll enjoy the entertainment area of the bayou from Shepherd to 77002, but would equally enjoy the "wild" side of this small area of a natural habit between 610 and Shepherd. The map shows nearly all of the tree line along that stretch of the bayou will be removed. Seems like when Allison hit, the bayou along the park didn't suffer much of the flood's wrath but rather inundated downtown when it met up with White Oak Bayou. It's all about making money, but improving the bayou along Memorial Park to create more gritty bike trails, public launch areas for kayaking, bird trails, etc. for those of us that enjoy a natural environment as opposed to a profitable river walk knock-off is quite appealing to me.
  11. Well, I'm hoping for a lively discussion after that post. Guess I'm jaded living close to a bayou that was paved before I got here and now have to pay drainage fees for civil engineer's "solution" to flooding here.
  12. http://www.savebuffalobayou.org/ Any thoughts, especially among landscape architects?
  13. I enjoyed shopping at Kaplan's for gifts and unique items. Something along a similar type "department" store with more current merchandise would be great.
  14. Interesting article about the downfall of the Heights depending, of course, on your point of view. What makes this subdivision so charming is being whittled away inch by inch. http://www.houstonpress.com/2013-12-19/news/coming-down-from-the-heights/
  15. I'm at a loss on the historic guidelines make our neighborhood "historically" acceptable. I have a Queen Anne bungalow. From researching similar homes at the turn of the century, it's my understanding that the ornate QA's generally started with the humble bungalow until resources and needs for more space converted the lowly bungalow into an ornate full blown QA. Is that correct? If so, the setbacks are totally against historical integrity which makes me question any and all regulations shoved down our collective throats. While I will always respect doing the right thing, there are many benefits to asking for forgiveness rather than permission.
  16. We need more police presence and more vigilant neighbors that actually are aware of who lives next to, across the street and behind them. We also need a communication strategy to keep residents informed. The availability of social media for the local neighborhood is virtually non-existent with the exception of a few general boards. I would gladly pay dues to the HHA if they had a neighborhood bulletin board with alerts. The constable program is an attempt but I truly believe "the feet on the ground" can be much more efficient in dettering hoodlum crime and vandalism as it occurs. I was very disappointed the elitists in WH forced the community to join an exclusive board available only to members in their subdivision mainly due to the immediate alert when our local community was under siege. It also served as a reminder to always be alert and all types of crimes were posted. We did not have to wait for the "if it bleeds it leads" stories to wake us from our gentrified slumber.

  18. Soooo, will the building be imploded?
  19. Hope they save facades, etc. Knowing Houston, that's a SWAW ( silly wild ass wish).
  20. Keep us posted as they get closer to the demo! Witnessed the Compass Bank on Post Oak implosion and it was a blast (pun intended)! Can't imagine how they can take down a building between others. Anyone know how the building will come down?
  21. Congrats & welcome to the hood! A most welcomed addition. Good luck renovating! Can't wait to see your good works.
