  1. Will this bridge have any style, lighting, etc. or just another run of the mill concrete bridge?
  2. And on another thread we were discussing cranes and my concern was why they don't fall. Anyhow, Red and a few other HAIFers enlightened me about cranes. But ... whoa ... paper said it was the mud and the thing started to sink and toppled. Crane Operator positions open.
  3. 2727 Kirby Here is the full story from HBJ. Interesting reading. Never underestimate the power of the wife.
  4. R O C K E T S Home court. We lead 3-2 with 2 to go.... home court..... yeah baby!!!
  5. woolie.... lots of us cannot afford these mega expensive highrises. However, it is great to live in a city where we have rich, not so rich but affluent, mid income and, unfortunately, lower income families. I will never live there, but will enjoy seeing 2727 from where I am in the city. Yeah, can you imagine the expense of a million dollar palace? I really can't, but I am blessed to have my 1800 sq ft "palace" and it belongs to me. So, let's build a 90 story highrise that we can see for miles... but not have to worry about the price.
  6. Yeah, the Ten Ten ... I loved that food court. But, of course, business must trump eating.
  7. .... but we all knew this anyhow. We're 6th best in the states. Link
  8. Exactly. There are many posters on this board who misspell words and use gramatically challenged sentences, but rarely do we not understand the post. Good post sttombiz.
  9. Downtown reminds me of the 80's. You will see lines of construction workers now in the shops and deli's. I haven't seen this much activity since the "boom" times. Add to all this a couple of new office towers and downtown is boom revisited.
  10. I am optimistic that 2727 will happen. But when some entity spends money to excavate, put up a crane etc., don't they lose that money with nothing to show. Kind of like Las Vegas most of the time?
  11. Cool. Coming in the Baytown East Fwy exiting to 45 South is a great view of TMC, Huntingdon, Greenway and Uptown. This will be a beauty.
  12. I think what DT's buildings need are more towers that take an interest in lighting up at night. Wells Fargo, Esperson, Reliant, Continental and Chevron are examples. Houston could be more beautiful at night.
  13. Be careful, this board is full of NYC lovers. I could care less about NYC because been there done that. but.... some people here just love that New York living... NOT me. I love H-town!
  14. LA's skyline ain't all that .... Houston's better. Chi-town is bigger and all, but H-town is on the move. Give us 20 yrs. Florida is making room for more grandma's and grandpa's .... good luck during hurricane season ....
  15. That would be GREAT for the area of downtown where I work. WOW .... eat your heart out other cities if this one happens in downtown H-town.
  16. If you look at Chevron's two towers, you will find remarkable architecture that is neither cheap nor cheesey. Its circular skywalk adds to the beauty of the world class buildings. So, I wouldn't say that our skyline looks cheap. In fact, it is downright spectacular. In fact, a group of British tourists (read Hoffman's column in the Chron) were impressed with how green Houston is and the downtown skyline. I do believe we will see some very nice work in the next few years.
  17. yeah, we heard that from Houston Pavilions.... STOP people.... STOP..... If it doesn't happen, a hundred others will. 'B Cool'
  18. Kincaid: u r right. Houston is over 2.2 mil folks with so much land and opportunity..... I agree on your post. Betcha lots of folks will agree as well WE ARE HOUSTON ...... no going back.
  19. ricco ... I love your posts. This one made me laugh today and that was hard to do considering my back/leg ache. Anyhow, congrats and keep those posts coming. I enjoy a care-free type of poster who also has serious posts as well. Flight of the queens...
  20. ummm... first downtown upscale or any scale bowling (almost spelled that blowing ... ) ... ahem.... let's get back to da stuff. Houston Pavilions is going to be bigger by scale and I think by volume than Denver Pavilions. Go check out how well that DP is doing, and picture Houston doing it bigger and better. At any rate, Discovery Park, Discovery Green (new office tower and I feel I had to restate this) and One Park Tower going up very soon, excluding Houston Pavilions and a host of other new highrise skyscrapers, I would say (like the New York Times indicated), can we mention "BOOM" again in Houston? Of course, our biggies said "Let's don't go there ..." grinning and Houston Proud. Also, Bayou Place is rocking! Don't believe me??? Been there, done that.
  21. You can't judge a book by its cover. Shouldn't we wait until after it is built to critique? That would be fair. P.S. If you owned one of the Penthouses and had the view from there, well, you're probably not on HAIF anyhow.
  22. Let's give Uptown a year or two. Developments on the horizon promise to be pretty impressive. Don't give up on Downtown either as half a dozen projects are on the drawing boards. Remember, Houston's skyline is impressive now. What it will be like in five years remain to be seen.
