  1. HBJ Link Anybody have more info on this one? Or is this in the tower mentioned in the earlier Galleria thread?
  2. Good luck to you Marc. I'm sure you miss barbeque and Tex-Mex. I know I did when I lived in S.F. for a while.
  3. I don't think I will put a lot of stock in this article that spells Dining with two n's and mentions Carolina Street instead of Caroline. Something up with this.
  4. HP skeptics sound like the 2727 Kirby skeptics ... it won't get built, wring hands, complain. 2727 is a gem topping out as we speak. Give HP a chance. I think it will work, particularly when One Park Place fills up with tenants. By the way, Bayou Place has tenants waiting to take the shuttered VIN and Sake restaurant spaces according to the Chronicle. I think Cordish could have done a lot more with Bayou Place, but that's another matter. Hard Rock, a couple of clubs, Verizon Theater and Angelika are doing well. I think leasing in HP's office space will happen in due time. Leasing 11 floors of space will take time. That entire area of downtown will be a great place to live, work and play. We just need to be patient and let it get built before we make any assumptions of what will, might, could happen. Might be pleasantly surprised.
  5. Is life such that watching a "foundation pour" is exciting? Particularly one of a dozen in H-town?
  6. Thanks dalparadise for your reply. For a minute there, I thought this was a us vs. them thing. Whew. Yes, there was a post regarding downtown Houston's HP, One Park Tower, 6 Houston Center, Discovery Tower, Discovery Green, two and possibly three new hotels that someone mentioned how it would have a similar effect on that part of downtown much like Victory has for that part of Dallas. And that is probably not a bad analogy. I walked around that area yesterday and there is construction everywhere. The new hotels are really necessary for the GRB to continue to be competitive in the convention business. It is a good time to be in Houston right now. Houston was first in the nation in number of jobs adding over 94,000. I guess we get a little bang for our bucks ($4 gasoline) here in the energy capital.
  7. dalparadise... oxymoron for sure .... no one here suggests that a La Quinta is on par with anything. Otherwise, it is another hotel in downtown H-town that will allow convention-goers a place to stay at far more reasonable rates than Hyatt or Hilton or Four Seasons, etc..... No, we Houstonians will not be staying there and I personally won't be staying at the Hyatt downtown either. As far as cool new hotels in and around downtown, we have plenty of them. But not as many as there will be as more hotels are looming on the horizon. Real odd post from you, but anything suggestive in nature of Dallas will be odd and generally written off quickly by the locals. Please point me to the posts that "tout" this with the Victory W hotel inDallas. Thank you.
  8. A little more info on Discovery Tower. It appears there will be a skybridge and tunnel connection as well. Link
  9. A little testy dude? Here's what the Dallas Morning News has to say Link: That's because no city wants a nickname like Choke City, but it seems we deserve that a lot more these days than our neighbors four hours to the southeast since we're a city that can't figure out how to win a championship. Do you know how hard that is to admit for someone who grew up in Oak Cliff and has spent nearly all of his adult life in Dallas? It's like an Aggie rooting for a Longhorn
  10. History was made at Texas Stadium Sunday. The NFL's longest playoff losing streaks: 6 N.Y. Giants 1939-1950 6 Cleveland 1969-1985 6 Minnesota 1988-96 6 Detroit 1991-current 6 Seattle 1984-2004 6 Kansas City 1993-current 6 Dallas 1996-current
  11. Yeah, we heard all about how Mosaic was not going to be built for all kinds of reasons and 2727 Kirby was dead in the water. I see no reason why someone would be a poser on the board. Of course, there are a lot of crazies out there; but if RegentSquare is the developer ...
  12. Texas Med Center 2014 By 2014, the Medical Center will have 40 million square feet of patient, research and education space, making it as big as the existing downtowns of Dallas and Fort Worth combined.
  13. I think, in Houston, boulevard is a misnomer. Yes, multi-lane arterial thoroughfares are common here, but having "roads" along each side doesn't happen except on the freeways. Oh, well, the Titan is going up on The Boulevard (such as it is). I like the building and think it will look great on The Boulevard. Definition by Wikipedia: In this case, as a type of road, a boulevard (often abbreviated Blvd) is usually a wide, multi-lane arterial thoroughfare, divided with a median down the center, and "roads" along each side designed as slow travel and parking lanes and for bicycle and pedestrian usage, often with an above-average quality of landscaping and scenery. The division into peripheral roads for local use and a central main thoroughfare for regional traffic is a principal feature of the boulevard.
  14. Going national may be the understatement. Got my Food & Wine magazine today and opposite page 117 is a full page Titan ad. Curiously, is this just for the Texas edition or is this a national ad? Anyhow, go Titan.
  15. Texans are soooo predictable on offense... anyhow, another disappointing showing by the Texans. Sigh.
  16. This was a thread that started out being whether HP could be "Bayou Place Redux" Anyhow, Chicago is a beautiful 40 degrees and H-town is a balmy 70 sumpin...... HP will be a great addition to downtown. Don't know how Chicago got dragged into this thread. But ..... Houston is doing OK. Downtown. Uptown. TMC. Beach. Bay. Westside..... otherwise. HP can and will be a magnet to draw locals and others to our downtown. As far as being "Bayou Place" - it doesn't have to be. Bayou Place is doing quite well. Hopefully, we can enjoy quality entertainment from both venues. Lucky Strike will put pizzazz into downtown like Angelika has done for Bayou Place. Can't wait to dine at HP's fab restaurants. Downtown Houston is being revitalized one block at a time.
  17. But the Texans and the Rodeo will have problems with this venue as well.
  18. So sweet to beat Dallas again. What a big crowd - over 30,000 at Robertson. Orange Crush!!!
  19. I'm with you guys on this one. There is simply NO reason that the dome could not be renovated into the 1300 room hotel and be an asset to Reliant Park. Texans and Rodeo want more $$$ for parking. Greed. Rodeo attendance has been down in the past few years. Sounds like Rodeo needs to entertain some fresh ideas. The hotel would be very helpful in drawing more conventions to Reliant. Guests could stay at the hotel and have the convenience of the train to Museum District, downtown, etc.
  20. I watched some of the game last night. Yao looks real good. The new floor at Toyota Center is beautiful. I'm getting excited about the Rockets this year. I feel we can play with the best of 'em.
  21. Yeah, Trae... it was U G L Y Anyhow, Kris Brown was flawless.... 54 54 and let's top this off with 57 GO KB!!!
  22. Yeah, I was going to post this siting today, but found this thread. That lot is fenced in with plastic around it and a sign that says construction area. Also, note that Babgy is going to be closed from 10/8/2007 to 12/31/2007. Ouch for some. I'm really curious as to what is going on here ... I just figured Bagby needs to be repaved (and it does), but are they really going to build a garage there? That would be a great skyscraper site.
  23. You're right ProHouston. The Texans had a bad day. I should have waited until this morning to comment; at least I would have been more objective. But, needless to say, I think most Texans' fans were disappointed with this very winnable game. But since I purchased two PSL's before the stadium was even finished and my name is engraved in the Glass Wall next to Reliant, I think I can vent a little. Having read the Chron this morning and seeing the stats (alcohol free today ), the Texans really moved the ball and should have had this one. OK, Miami and home cookin' may be the medicine we need. And a few injured players getting well. My college team is L S U !!!!!!! (who nearly gave me a heart attack in the 1st half Sat.)
