I guess those were all the runs they didn’t score against the Yankees.

Been watching the game. I’ve only seen aerials of NRG. I’m guessing the weather ruined any chances of setting up any live shots.

Glad to see something go in here. This is a pretty desolate part of downtown with not much to work with.- 95 replies

I see the thread for the Holiday Inn Express. Is there one for the other project?

As this building is completed it will be the first time in years that we haven’t had a major project under construction downtown in a really long time. I’m thinking it goes back to before they started the Hilton Americas. Hopefully this will be a short period of inactivity.

new bike paths around town
Sunstar replied to samagon's topic in Bicycles and Other Low-Impact Modes
Right now it only goes as far as Feagan, followed by a generous sidewalk to Dickson. I’m unaware of any plans to extend the roadwork further towards the Memorial bridge and Buffalo bayou. -
new bike paths around town

They’ve added bike lanes as part of the interminable road reconstruction on Shepherd and Durham south of I-10. -
I’m glad to hear it’s functioning. I am bummed about the Avenida fountain no longer being kinetic. I thought it was a cool concept.
-
When you say both the Main Street square fountains are working, do you mean the ones with the high arching streams? I don’t know if I just have horrible timing but I haven’t seen those work in like 12 years. Also, for the one on Avenida Houston, was the mechanism working or just the fountain?

Warehouse Renovation At 815 St. Charles St.

Love to see this kind of stuff. Makes my day. -
I feel like this is par for the course for any big sporting event. Media personalities come into your town and complain. If it were in New York someone would complain how crappy the subways were (they are but that’s missing the point). For me the proof is in all the major events we are getting. The Superbowl, two NCAA final fours, a national championship, and a World Cup venue. This isn’t just luck. This is due to a sustained effort to build out our sporting venues, our transit connecting events, and most importantly our urban core. This means a lot more than some random politician or radio personality ragging on us with vague insults.

They redirected Buffalo Bayou to go around the Police Officers Memorial, so a project like this isn’t unprecedented, although in this case they’ll have to go though devolved land and city infrastructure to make it happen.

It’s still a pretty small sample size. If they keep winning they will move up the rankings. They lost Springer this year and Verlander is just coming back from Tommy John, so I can see why there might be some skepticism about the Astros, but this current roster seems quite capable.
