  2. Pearland 34th on Forbes Magazine Growth List Last Edited: Friday, 10 Aug 2007, 5:13 PM CDT Created: Friday, 10 Aug 2007, 5:13 PM CDT Pearland is the 34th fastest growing suburb in the United States according to an article in Forbes magazine. The Houston suburb also is 10th in Texas and first in the greater Houston area. Pearland
  3. As George mentioned upthread, Pearland didn't want to be solely responsible for paying for a facility that residents of surrounding cities would take advantage of. I think they were looking for alternatives. Maybe shared funding?
  4. Update on Pearland Park & Ride http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nb/pea...ws/5036890.html Pearland city officials are counting on a study by the Houston-Galveston Area Council to turn the idea of a Park & Ride in the city to reality. Assistant City Manager Nick Finan said the study will look at a number of factors, including the location, cost, the parties that should be involved and the funding sources that could help get a Park & Ride off the ground. No timetable has been set for completing the study, Finan said. "It's a complicated issue," City Manager Bill Eisen said. "There
  5. George - Can you explain the significance of this decision for those of us who are not in the know?
  6. Has anybody noticed that there's a new sign in front of the WaterLights site that says something like "Coming Soon - Restaurant Row on the Grand Canal"? I haven't been able to find any information but it got me wondering whether they may try to make the Presidential Park/Waterlights more restaurant oriented rather than retail oriented. To me, this would make sense 1) because will soon be so much retail in the area. 2) There's a shortage of good restaurant choices. What do you guys think?
  7. TCEQ Grants Contested Hearing On Blue Ridge Landfill The Texas Commission On Environmental Quality just ruled this morning at a hearing in Austin that sufficient evidence did exist to allow for a contested case hearing on the proposed application for the Blue Ridge Landfill Expansion near Missouri City, Arcola, Fresno & Pearland. This is good news for the nearly 1100 homeowners who signed the petition against this project. We will update this section as time and information permits. http://missouricitychatter.blogspot.com/
  8. Everything I've read indicates a Fall 2007 opening. So I'm going put my money on HEB opening the week before Thanksgiving.
  9. I notice that the Silverlake Randall's in Pearland is currently undergoing the new lifestyle remodel that has been talked about recently. I must say that I really like what they've done. I was a long-time Randall's fan but like many people, was turned off by what the stores had become under the Safeway regime. I notice that the new look has brought about better products, better customer service and more customers. I'm sure they had to make some changes with all of the competiton currently surrounding them as well as the planned HEB and Kroger stores. Surprisingly, I think they just might b
  10. I definitely wouldn't call SCR a dump. It's still a beautiful neighborhood, with very nice homes, and a number of residents who were caught off guard by this mess. It's unfortunate that things have gone down the way they have. I wish them the best.
  11. I read that there is a MiMi's coming to the Pearland Town Center, which will open next summer.
  12. Minor update on retail development. Going up next to Best Buy: Half Price Books Party City Going up next to JC Penney: A smaller strip center that has the following businesses confirmed so far Charming Charlie's - An accesory store Wells Fargo Finanical Center There is an additional 8000 square feet available for another retail outlet. Also Randall's is adding a new Starbucks with a big lounge area and fireplace.
  13. I'm pretty sure that anything that is less than 3 years old is going to be deep down in Greatwood, making 59 access an issue.
  14. Hi NJ - Try Froberg's Market in Alvin. http://www.insiderpages.com/b/3722379287
  15. I actually prefer the hybrid markets. I love all of the amenities (cafe, butcher, seafood market) that Central Market has to offer, but I've noticed that since they tilt so heavily toward stocking "gourmet" brands, when I'm just looking for regular, everyday brands on many things, they don't sell them or they're stocked in much smaller quantities. I love trying new and different brands/foods, but more often than not, a common brand is more than sufficient. The hybrid markets give a good mix of both.

  17. I could be mistaken but I think the Wildcat Golf Club on Almeda is a former landfill. http://www.wildcatgolfclub.com/golf-course...to-gallery.html
  18. How sad... I pray you're never in a position to make hiring decisions. I wonder if the parents of those black children you look at in disgust look at little white children and wonder how many will grow up to be ignorant and prejudiced.
  19. Did it say that in the story? If not, that's a big assumption.
  20. Actually it's not a lawsuit. The first step is to formally contest with TCEQ. The story is in the following link. http://www.fortbendnow.com/news/2790/tv-st...-public-at-risk ETA one more story... http://chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nb/pearlan...ws/4714130.html
  21. I live in Silverlake. I guess it's all relative but I don't consider myself being next to Blue Ridge, nor or all parts of Shadow Creek. I'm sure it's making many potential homebuyers think long and hard about whether or not they want to buy in the area, as it should. But I know in my particular neighborhood in Silverlake (and I can only speak for my specific subdivsion/village) people are still buying and homes don't stay on the market long. And yes, KTRK, KHOU and Fox are all filing a lawsuit to stop the expansion. This is along with the ongoing suit by Shadow Creek, Teal Run and other Fresn
  22. For those of you who live in Pearland, I'm sure you're aware that the Pearland and Alvin portions of Brazoria County are dry. There is a petition drive underway to have an election to change the laws. There are two seperate issues so there will be two petitions circulating. 22,000 signatures are needed. They call for the following: "The legal sale of mixed beverages in restaurants by food and beverage certificate holders only" and "The legal sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only" Today, petitions will be available to sign at both Pearland Walmarts located on Broadway (518) f
  23. Based on the updated site plan and a little neighborhood gossip it appears that the HEB-anchored development will also have Hobby Lobby, Academy, McAlister's Deli, La Madeleine, Taco Cabana, Candelari's Pizza, Finger's Furniture, Lupe Tortilla, Pei Wei, Compass Bank, and Wachovia Bank. Site Plan is here http://www.fox-properties.net/availprop/propdesc.asp?ID=1 As mentioned, PeiWei and Candelari's are not on the site plan but this is the word on street. Also, the big presidential head display at the WaterLights retail development in Pearland was discussed last week. The following press rele
