  1. But you don't get to just decide on what is good and what isn't. Protesting something that is perfectly within its rights isn't going to get you anywhere. What you want is zoning, which has been shot down everytime it has been brought up. I know you think it is important to have your idealistic version of development, (which I mostly agree would be nice), but where you lose me is where you try to stop certain developments after the fact. If there had been a group for the past 7 years pushing for some sort of mixed use development in the walmart location, and they have assited in sourcing/oraganizing a 380 style agreement for a particular type of business in that location, I could understand being upset with ainbinder for building this out for Walmart. However nobody said anything really until ainbinder announced it would be a walmart. Why not find the next developable parcels of land that you think are at risk of becoming strip centers, and try to create something to make it benificial to the developer to build your idealistic development? Proactive vs Reactive. That would be something I bet more people would be supportive of.
  2. This comment is hearsay at best, if not an outright lie/fabrication. I'm am sorry your offended, I removed the word "lies". I was more implying your statement was based off a lie/fabrication not that you personally made up the lie.
  3. I'm just pointing out that the walmart did in fact improve the area. My beef is with Revival Market, and I will drop by to pick it up for dinner later. As far as being happy, I was unaware that I was displaying any notion of unhappiness. I'm just countering your statements because they are either baseless or unrelated to the previous statement. (i.e., I call you out for bringing the 380 into whether the walmart improved the area, and you call me unhappy.)
  4. yeah, but that has nothing to do with wheter the development improved the area or not. Also for the billionth time... your beef with the 380 is with the city. The city is the one that pushed it (aren't you the one that often quotes Ainbinder as saying they would have developed without it?). A grassy field full of crack heads, homeless, and drug dealers isn't the same as just a grass field either.
  5. I think you just found a really bizarre arguementative way to agree with me. Like I said.... The development improved the area, it wouldn't have really mattered what it was. Just because you don't like walmart doesn't mean they weren't the ones that caused the change. Frank Liu, HEB, whomever could have been the ones to cause it, but Ainbinder/Walmart were the ones. Just because Walmart isn't your preference doesn't change that.
  6. No. The West End would emcompass a lot more area. This specific few blocks had sat vacant (other than homeless and drug dealers) for a very long time. It would be safe to assume that the development was a catalyst to the changing of the neighborhoods climate. What businesses within the development aren't important. It could have been mixed use HEB/Whole Foods/Sprouts/ Kitty Day Spa / Oil change/ apartment complex and the result for the surrounding area would have been the same/similar. Walmart was just the one with the coin to make it happen.
  7. If they hadn't been going up already before the HDs, and the neighboring non HD parts of the neighborhood weren't increasing in value at the same or greater rate, then yest you could say that.
  8. Did they seriously claim the HD's are the cause of the increase in property values for all of the heights in that video... wow.
  9. In the spirit of Walmart, I believe this thread should encompass as any issues/topics/insults as possible. Something for everyone in one stop... just like Walmart.
  10. I'm not sure what I did to disgust you, other than state that one person can't decide whether or not something is funny or sarcastic. I stated that I thought it was classless and told Leonard that I would agree that it is classless... which he then tried to use against me... When I say that I would agree that it is classless, that means that I think it was classless. I, ME, SILVERJK. I think this. (if Red thinks that is elitist of me, I'm fine with that and wouldn't argue, it is my opinion on the matter.) I wouldn't say it isn't funny, I would say I don't find it funny. It is the difference of self awareness vs. perceived "group think" that in my opinion are the root of a lot of the issues that come up on this forum. Please also remember... you don't know the story of the person behind the keyboard... (although my avatar kinda gives away that I was a b-boy at one point...)
  11. You don't really get to decide whether it was sarcasm or not... nor if it was funny or not. (this is just another example of an elitist mentality thinking you know what is best for all, and speaking for all without their consent). I'm sure someone read the comments and chuckled (I didn't). I do agree that it was classless... but that ship has long sailed in this thread.
  12. If the sidewalk would have been built, s3mh and leonard would be complaining about more wasted money Walmart spent because they will just be torn up during the development of the SJS lot. Again... walmart is mentioned with this every time in every negative post, and they have nothing to do with this at all. Ainbinder and the City are the ones your issues are with... And FWIW, HEB sucks. I used to shop their exclusively, but they really went downhill over the past several years. The produce selection at the newish Montrose HEB is absolutely terrible.
  13. Mark, I agree it is an excellent addition. My wife and I have walked there a few times so far (~ 1 mile walk each way). Are you talking about the roasted chicken sandwich with the plantains and all that other stuff on it? If so, that is a freaking awesome sandwich. Not quite Heights, but I finally made it over to Crisp the other day. Pretty nice spot and food was good (pizza seemed very popular). I've never seen so many mid-20s to mid-30s anglos in one place before in Houston. Not sure if thats the norm, but it was definitely telling of the demographic shift of Shady Acres.
  14. according to the drainage bill tacked on to our water bills... my wooden deck is hardscape. I thought there was a lot of paved surface at the old steel mill that had been overgrown. I seem to remember big piles of crumbled up junk when they first started the dirtwork.
  15. I also like the drainage issue brought up... isn't this less hardscape than was there previously? I also like how there problem is with the city, but they are still mad at walmart and not the city.
  16. I hope they have rooftop access/common space, as it would be a waste to not take advantage of the view from there. I like the rendering though, can't wait to see the razer wire bunker garage gone.
  17. So the city gets someone else to front the money to get work done now instead of waiting 10 years... got it!
  18. I've just finished my moat and other lines of defenses... any idea when the rollback army intends on moving their troops in to Invade the Heights?
  19. You left out the part where you threatened to make things hard for the opposers. Turns out the HVAC Placement wasn't unfounded... nobody thought slums were going to overtake the heights (you just made that up). Fighting dirty about about an ambigous ordinance that doesn's specifically state things isn't really fighting dirty (trying to stop a Walmart because of a bridge that isn't the only access to the walmart on the other hand... thats dirty). You have no understanding of the word "fairness". People joking about tar and feathering are just that... joking. Your classless moments are actually what you plan on doing or have done. I don't think all HD supporters are like that... but you certainly are.
  20. Classy... remember your manic rant after the HDs got approved? I think you gave up all your rights on calling someone else out for not being classy that day.
  21. I'll gladly put a REMOVE ELLIOT FROM THE HAHC sign in my front yard.
  22. More like mostly serious, partly joking. I'm happy for Brie and I'm sure after her experience of dealing with this group that she will add a nice fresh view on these issues, and having a whole committe of level headed understanding people would be great. We'll see how things go from here. Its too bad that it will take many more level headed people to overcome the HAHCs current standing.
  23. Can Disbanding the HAHC be your primary directive?
  24. You really think Braun took a hit just to get Torchy's? GTFO, you don't actually think that. Your the one always using the pronoun game "we, they, eveyone" when you only can truly say "I" but you choose to call me out on stating they are getting the same money... REALLY?
