Fun fact: many years before my time, my junior high school's mascot name was the Kittens, and not just the cheerleaders, the football team!
Yeah, I know it's not a high school mascot per se, but no one would be caught dead with these sorts of names today.
I love the roster and pictures, thanks for sharing. The weight of the boys is interesting and the Yell Leaders is classic.

The only teams that would have anything to fear would be terms related to ethnic groups or slurs (Cotton Pickers, Arabs, Coons, Redskins, etc.)
Animals won't have that problem unless we get to a point where certain types of people are saying "Your 'Wally the Wolf' mascot is offensive to me and my fellow wolfkin, please change it or we sue," and at that point, then we've got bigger problems.
I'm not saying they should pick something as wacky as possible to screw with the "mascot establishment" ("Fight! Bite! Don't play nice! [something] High School Pubic Lice!") but all of the "stock" choices just seem so overused.
I agree. Where's a good minor league baseball mascot when you need one?
This is why I would like for them to pick Hurricanes with Purple. It's the most non-stock out of the choices. But then you have to deal with the Cain Canes and the dance squad being the Cain Candy Canes. Unless the mascot is a giant purple Candy Cane carrying a Big Ass Fan to provide gale force winds...then we're talking!!!

Ignoring any meme magic, why can't people pick actually interesting mascot names? Seems like there's a limited number of "stock mascot names" with the only unusual ones occurring in small Texas towns (Kangaroos, Hornets, Unicorns, Sand Crabs, etc.)
Is it just a matter of "We can't get a mascot costume for it"?
What was explained to me by several administrators during the construction of new high schools for Tomball and Cy-Fair was the "cost-to-create and maintain." In their research, they found it easier to consistently reproduce basic colors and basic mascots over time (uniforms, paint, logos, letterhead, etc). Also, one individual involved in the Tomball Memorial development called these generic choices the "fear of lawsuits from the politically correct."
Honestly, you can point your finger in any direction as to why. I don't think many of the kids knew they were going to be given an opportunity to vote. I truly believe if the kids in all these intermediate schools knew, they could have started a bigger movement for the Gorillas (#harambe) and that would have been awesome.

Announcement for colors/mascot to be made by first part of next week according to Principal Patin.
-
Update: @vsbcade was partially correct.
Three options for mascot and colors. These were presented to all future Cain freshman at the appropriate intermediate schools. The kids were allowed to vote. A heavy write-in vote for Gorillas was also occurring it seems.
Mascot choices:
Hurricanes
Wildcats
Mavericks
Color choices:
Crimson/Yellow/White (Washington Redskins)
Purple/Silver/Black/White (Baltimore Ravens)
Navy/Orange/White (Denver Broncos)
-
According to @vsbcade, mascot is down to hurricanes or Wildcats. And the colors will be purple, white, black, silver.
-
Apparently there are small student focus groups at all schools filtering into Cain. These groups were shown three colors and three mascots for their opinions. Students will not pick color and mascot, but these small focus groups may help influence the final choice.

Klein representative, "It is too early to assume children will be allowed to decide mascot and colors for the new Klein Cain High School. Once appointed, the new principal will make that decision."
Principal = Nicole Patin

Klein Cain
*rumor for mascot is an old bald man
*rumor for colors is khaki and gray

High School #5 will be named at the Aug. 8 Board meeting.
For those of you riding the recent rumor train of Cain Memorial High School, it was mentioned that there is a bylaw which makes the name Klein mandatory for all high schools. I have no idea if that is correct or not. Either way, we will find out soon.

I know zoning is finalized and you can see that on the KISD website but has anyone heard any other updates of any kind? What's the scuttlebutt?
-
Preferred Zoning Draft as announced on Dec 14 is on the Klein ISD website and an email link for your comments. Yet again HAIF toolbar is not working for me. Hopefully the link below works.

HS #5 name, mascot and color RUMOR. Consider this just for fun because I have zero confirmation of what was being tossed around while voting yesterday. Apparently this is what the kids are hearing at Doerre and Ulrich. But for some reason I thought the kids get to vote on mascot and color???
Klein Cain Cardinals (Crimson and Gold)
*Cain = Dr. Jim Cain is retiring and the district wants to honor him
*Cardinals = We have three cats in the district and only one bird (Bearkats, Tigers, Panthers, Eagles) and there are no other schools close by with this mascot.
*Crimson and Gold = All other KISD high schools have gold as their secondary colors while Blue, Navy, Black as their primary. Maybe colors like San Francisco 49ers, Boston College, or Florida State?

There are two more scheduled meetings which are open to the public and they hold repeat sessions in the evenings.
November 10: 1-2:30 PM & 6-7:30 PM
December 1: 1-2:30 PM & 6-7:30 PM
Based on the two Options provided during the first meeting it appears there is very little difference between Option 1 and Option 2. As for the old KHS neighborhoods moving to HS#5 the general boundaries seem to be these:
North = Spring Cypress
South = Louetta
West = District border
East = Drainage ditch approximately three blocks west of Champion Forest

KISD update for HS #5 Zoning is up on the district website. I cannot get the HAIF "link" to cooperate so I've typed it out below, hopefully it works. On the district webpage there are several links to the left that will give you more information.
-
Now that we can see the dirt being pushed around, and the Bond has passed, any information about Zoning? What about expanding Spring-Cypress?
-
I assume most have heard the news but just in case here is some information and images. The next question would be zoning??
"Nearly six years after initially considering designs for the district’s fifth high school, the Klein ISD board of trustees approved a new design June 9 for High School No. 5, which is planned for completion in August 2017."

I spoke with someone tonight that said Klein ISD is in major financial trouble and the land for HS #5 is up for sale. Can anyone verify this?
Also, it was mentioned that KISD teachers have been asked for suggestions as to how to deal with the financial situation...this seemed a little odd to me.
From the Budget Information FAQ on KISD website:
23. Q. What does the deficit mean for the construction of High School #5?
A. Nothing at this time. High School #5 is currently scheduled to open in 2019.

Option 1 would have all of Gleannloch Farms including north of Northpointe Dr. going to Doerre Intermediate.
Option 2 would have Gleannloch Farms north of Northpointe Dr. going from Krimmel to now Ulrich. Gleannloch Farms south of Northpointe Dr. going from Doerre to now Ulrich. Option 2 has the entire subdivision of Gleannloch Farms going to Ulrich.
It could go either way, but like I said more people at the meeting favored option 2 over option 1 for a number of different reasons.
All of Gleannloch going to the same school (Doerre or Ulrich), interesting. Are these the only two options on the table? Is there any chance north of Northpointe Gleannloch remains at Krimmel (or a grandfather for the students already attending Krimmel)?

Checked the KISD website as recommended and found the Zoning information. Looks like a meeting was held Oct. 27. Was anyone able to attend?
