  1. These BRT lines are gonna dramatically change the look of the city in a great way! All new developments will to use the TOD standards.

Is there still talk to add Boost lines to TOD standards?

TxDOT’s contribution to the park by funding the structural cap is nothing to sneeze at.

Anyone who thinks that TxDOT should fund the actual park itself, and that the absence of funding is somehow an indicator that it won’t be built, just has zero idea how these things work. I wouldn’t be surprised if TxDOT can’t even fund such things legally as part of its enabling legislation. Even if it could, I can understand from a policy perspective why they wouldn’t want to get into that business. The federal monies going to this project are restricted, too. I think the Infrastructure Bill may provide some more flexible funding options.

I wonder why they didn't mention the Almeda cap.

1000%. Too many downtown corporations, local foundations, and uber-wealthy Houstonians that will be interested in naming rights and want to play a significant role in a transformational project for the city.

Yep after I win the Powerball tonight I may even contribute! 😁

I, like others on this forum, am very excited about the potential of the 'bus corner' becoming something nicer. Even grander. But two things come to mind:

    1. There are a bunch of other already empty blocks in the larger area. A rough count for a corridor from Clay St south to Stuart St, 2 blocks east/west of Main Street, finds that there are nine mostly empty full city blocks. A couple are used for parking, one has a vacant bank, an empty CVS and the others are just dirt. This does not count the bus depots/McDonald sites or the soon to be relocated Cadillac dealer. There is already plenty of supply if there is a real demand. I'm not sure if the bus terminals' availability will change that dynamic.

    2. Having said that, I wonder if a decision has been made that only the well connected are aware of, reflected by all the recent activity near the Pierce Elevated. Is that about to come down and the smart money is getting ready for a redevelopment surge? I'd be OK with that.

I won't be around in "a few decades" but I am happy with hopes of a quicker, even modest, improvement.

And the development in down to the ION 😏

Not to drag this too off-topic, but do the TOD ordinances apply to our BRT lines as well? Could people along the current silver line be exempt from minimums because of it?

I’m also curious to know if these will apply to BOOST routes.
(I figure this is addressed in the PDF, but my internet is being a butt right now and struggling to load. )

Yes it does the BRT lines in the galleria area are included you have to go to the walkable places page on the city of Houston's website and they'll have a map there I'll see if I can find a link.

Not to mention all the med center development will likely mean more demand for housing, and I could see Midtown picking some of that up for sure. Its location on the red line is a boost for it imo

You know I was just wondering that I've asked the question on here before in the past is there really that much demand for high-rise residential in Houston I guess it is. And not to mention high rise apartments in the galleria Do you think we are over building?

I will be the first to state- Highway landscaping rocks, when done right.

So of course each time I see huge stretches with no landscaping, I am so let down.........I always ask myself, in TXDOZt kazillion dollar budget for highway construction, all that upturned dirt, just waiting there, and there's no room for wildflower seeds? Ever?

I remember when the median of 288 near Brays Bayou used to be full of bluebonnets during the Spring. With the toll lanes added, I guess there's no room for the wildflower seeds anymore. Though I have seen them growing through cracks in the riprap.

I always thought it was stupid they put the trees in the middle of median knowing they were gonna rip them out years later. Those trees could have been planted along the sides.

For those likes me, I'm definitely most excited about not having to see a giant M driving down the freeway :) Our Skyline just got more beautiful :)

For those that don't understand my view, these giant Ms on a stick are sooo FUGLY. These and the Starbucks ones 🤢. I'm sooo glad Houston took the steps to prevent these types of sticks to appear along our freeways.

nice, thanks for confirming. interesting wonder what would want to be right there.. I have heard rumors in the building that someone is buying up these lots. Same person that recently bought the old Bank of America building is buying others around. That crappy property on travis on the OTHER side of my building got complete inside demo, and they tore down everything that was in the parking lot recently. A company that is trying to lease it , really pushing that it has 50 parking spots. So someone(s) out here taking over these areas. Keep in mind, though, the rumor about the greyhound moving has also been in this building as long as i have haha.. probably for many decades.. so who knows what is really going on. Hence why i came here :D

The area has tons of potential! Then there's the Cadillac lots as well!

Whitmire should be a shoe-in but he won’t be.  He has alienated many people at his alma mater UH which could doom his candidacy.  Turner is a proud UH grad and reps the university.  Whitmire wishes he could have gone to UT or A&M!

Well Whitmire does have Tillman behind him I wouldn't be surprised if Tillman convinced him to run in the first place!

    How has he alienated people?

The city of Pearland decided to invest in cute little pear shapes and not pedestrian infrastructure. If anyone knows Pearland they know that Broadway is a total disaster. Last I heard, TxDOT was going to widen it from 4 lanes to 6 because growth in the area has caused more traffic. Another example of nearsighted thinking.

I noticed that too!  I will say at least Pearland is finally starting to landscaping serious with the new trees being planted.
