Aesthetically this is a very ugly portion of 610. Not only is the freeway ugly the deplorable buildings/houses in the area are a blight to look at from the freeway. I wonder why the city won’t make property owners tear down much of it. And I don’t know why TxDot uses short concrete medians that are never installed in a straight line and have weeds growing from them. Taller medians would help hide much of the blight below. So I would say yes to rebuilding this area but no to feeder roads.

I think there should be tall concrete barriers between the freeway and the feeder roads.

Hopefully this plan falls through :) The highway is legit in great condition; I often drive on here.

TXDOT is legit going to choke the crap out of Houston with the construction thats legit planned at almost every highway within the loop.

I'm going to be honest for the most part it is but once you get closer to the 45 interchange it's terrible the main Lane bridges need to be rebuilt as well as the whole interchange besides the new ramps that were just built.

As I told the story once before, one of my co-workers who lives and works in Baytown came to visit a distant relative's restaurant at the Arrive complex across the street. When I asked him later where it was located he said it was downtown not realizing that Kirby street isn't actually downtown. All suburbanites consider anything inside the loop as downtown.

This will make it seem more like downtown.

No it's mostly people who live in those East side suburbs that say anything inside of loop is downtown man a lot of those people are dumb as hell 🤦🏽‍♂️

Wanted to start a thread for the things that are happening in this area, just southwest of Houston.

I spent a fair amount of time there growing up. One of my aunts had a farm in Jackson County between Edna and Inez not too far off 59 and we would often take day trips to Victoria for some fun. Also spent time around Hallettsville as we had relatives there and visited on occasion. Full of history and a great jumping off point to the rest of South Texas.

"The Victoria City Council approved the expansion of its cultural district and the library’s new master plan Tuesday evening.

The city established its cultural district last year but held off applying to the Texas Commission on the Arts to recognize it to improve the application.

“We needed to establish the district first,” Economic Development Director Danielle Williams said.

The commission recommended expansion from a 20-block area to a 36-block site to enhance the application and account for the substantial growth within the region, said Kate Garcia, Victoria Main Street manager.

The original 20-block area included the Leo J. Welder Center, Mitchell School, Memorial Square and the Nave Museum.

The expanded area adds the Five Points Museum of the Contemporary Arts, the South Texas Ballet Academy, a proposed maker space inside 120 Main Place, the intersection of Santa Rosa and Main Street and Nazareth Covent, which is a future museum site."

"The Victoria County Navigation District, which runs the Port of Victoria, is negotiating lease agreements with a green ammonia maker and a company seeking to produce and store solar energy through new methods. Both businesses would lease land located within the Port’s Texas Logistics Center. "

Nearby in Cuero, The Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum is looking to expand it's existing space into a campus with a pocket park, roundabout and additional galleries and exhibition space in several adjacent structures.

It's crazy to see a Victoria thread here .

I grew up in Jackson County Vanderbilt.

I don't see why they can't just do it over the HOV lane in the middle of the highway instead of cutting down those hundreds of trees/ expanding the width of the highway.

I might be alone on this, but I hateeeeee the design.

I've been thinking the same man!

I don't know what that is...a Rocket's forum?  I honestly don't even follow the Rockets!  I downsized sports as I got older!  🤣

Yep they were originally called Clutch City they've been around since 1999 that's the oldest forum I've been on besides here 😂

I honestly don't know why Fertitta gets so much hate.   Open your eyes and look around.   He has almost single-handedly revived the University of Houston sports complex and without him UH would NOT be in the Big 12.  The Fertitta Center is universally applauded as the best venue to watch a game in the city of Houston.  The recognition the Post Oak Hotel has received speaks for itself.

You think Crane is an angel?  He fired his GM that JUST won a World Series!  Even the Christian McNair's have been known to say the wrong things ("inmates running the prison")! 🤣

Let's give Fertitta credit for all the good he's done for this city.   No need to throw shade.

This reads like a Clutchfans post 😁😁😁

I’ve mentioned it here before but Ive got a sneaky feeling he’s going to ask for a new area. That or maybe he’s going to ask for some public money to fund a huge face lift to Toyota Center. I just refuse to believe that he’s changed his mind on all that big talk when he bought the team about upgrading the arena and building the Rockets a mixed-use training facility.

I think it'll be a huge upgrade to Toyota center there's nowhere else to put a NBA arena downtown.

The hopeful fall 2023 ground breaking tells me they’re trying build in time to open for the World Cup.

I hope it’s completed in time host. It would be another amenity to offer visitors.

Speaking of: Downtown is going to be LIT next weekend. Final Four Fan Fest and March Madness Music Festival at GRBCC/Discovery Green, and 2 blocks away, MLB Opening Weekend celebrating the World Series Championship at Minute Maid Park. It’s like a preview to 2026

I think the McDonald's all American game will be at Toyota Center too.

    https://www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-sports-nation/general/article/astros-rockets-att-sportsnet-southwest-purchase-17838568.php

"A decade after losing millions of dollars from the collapse of Comcast SportsNet Houston, the Astros and Rockets are negotiating to get back into the regional sports network business as owners of AT&T SportsNet Southwest.

If negotiations proceed as planned, according to sources with knowledge of the talks, the teams will create a new business entity that will assume ownership of the network from Warner Bros. Discovery.

While negotiations continue, Astros and Rockets games will still air on AT&T SportsNet Southwest, which has carried both teams since 2014."

It's crazy how the tables have turned with this now it's back in the Astros and Rockets hands. I hope they actually put other programming on the network besides the games like how it was with CSN Houston.
