  1. concur with carousel. they could have reused the one from astroworld. It was an antique.
  2. I'm simplying relaying information. i agree about the physically inadequate route. I just don't want them to close any cross streets, it really will hurt the eastside more because we are already innudated with heavy rail that regularly closes many streets.
  3. From what METRO's rep told me, the only MUST stop is the Magnolia transit center, which is between Harrisburg and Capitol. They want to tie in multiple bus routes. Ed Wulfe, the developer guru, is pushing BIG time to make it go to Gulfgate as well. This would tie in to the Gulfgate transit center as well.
  4. So far the blocks in question are still parking lots. I had the opportunity to go by the area today. What IS interesting though is that the METRO maps along the rail line show the three blocks as a commerical project that is already completed. Maybe they can forsee the future?
  5. It is the same way around the family law building. HUGE rats are there too.
  6. Maybe we can find out what they are building right now in front of Marshall's. i still haven't seen a sign for what is going in. anyone know?
  7. I knew all the others already mentioned......(oldest first i think) Ranger Drive in on Telephone Metranga's Pipeorgan Pizza chichi's
  8. if i remember correctly much of this drive in was standing in the early 80's. but i think it had already closed at that time.
  9. I was 10 or 11 when the very first shopping center in Houston opened less than a mile from our house. It was called Palm Center. It wasn
  10. Across MLK was the old Montgomery Wards. That same corner also had a Kip's Big Boy
  11. thanks for that. YES the old Montgomery Wards is standing but the JC Penney's has been razed. Great google shot, even captured an airliner going into Hobby two blocks south of Palm Center.
  12. Just some of the buildings are standing. the JC Penney's was razed years ago. Perhaps the Montgomery ward across the street is standing? not sure though but know it is abandoned. The City/county has taken over what remains of the mall for satellite offices.
  13. Wow the facade has changed. It looks like the building has been fortified now.
  14. Anyone remember Palm Center, the FIRST mall in Houston? It was at South Park (now MLK) and Griggs. I remember there was a Penney's there as the main anchor. A grocery store was the other main anchor. This was built in the early 50's. Across the street was Loma Linda Mexican Restaurant which was basically the only Mexican Restaurant in the area. Hard to believe but i didn't like Mexican food back then and i always ate the children's plate, which was turkey and french fries. I think they "sold" it to the current owners on Telephone.
  15. Too Americanized for me! I need something more traditional.
  16. I think you're talking across Bellfort from the Monterrey House. There was a private country club there for years and there was also some kind of horse kennel/boarding. After Sims was widened, the country club is gone. I did drive by there and saw remnants of the road that headed to the country club. so i'm pretty sure it's gone.
  17. No, both signs have been standing since the beginning.....the 45 one (which is the one in the pic) and the 610 one have been refurbished.
  18. They've neon-ized it since the center reopened. Only bad thing is that it doesn't spin around like the old sign used to. Guess the motor maintenance was too expensive.
  19. yes it is still there along with st chrisopher's etc.
  20. I'm glad to see someone start this back up. i will have to disagree with your Cafe Adobe. That is one step up from Taco Bell. Jalapenos is ok texmex but nothing i would recommend. your 100% taquito, original ninfa's and spanish village are good!!
  21. yes it is!!! I highly recommend the pad prik king. VERY spicy and tasty. i think it is a must for thai.
  22. this can't be the original owner. I thought Mr. Moore sold it years ago. i went to school with their daughter.
  23. the sage was near monroe on the east side of the freeway. i remember globe but i think it was where the lowe's is now. i also remember a Fedmart there as well during one incarnation. i think it opened after globe closed. can anyone jog my memory???
  24. definitely the old carousel motel. that was really the place to be back in its day. lots of wedding receptions etc. not sure when it was built but definitely before 1963 according to my mom.
