  1. Post happy hour, my jigger poured rum was $8. WAY too much for a drink that was 3/4 soda.
  2. LOL Tell that to the business owners who have to run them out of their establishments regularly after trying to sneak in to use the restrooms. As for OKRA Bar, I was surprised at some of the organizations that are vying for the month's proceeds. The Women's Shelter is a great option but David Crossley's Houston Tomorrow???? No thanks. That was a turnoff for me. As for the drinks, for happy hour prices they are barely acceptable, for regular prices they certainly are not.
  3. hobby is already international. I've done at least 2 international flights
  4. some cousins just went to mexico city but decided to drive to san antonio to fly.....flight was 250 from there and 750 from here. the san antonio flight's 2nd leg was through houston. because continental has a monopoly thru here, they are able to get inflated prices. in san antonio, other carriers have direct flights so continental/united was matiching the prices. I say go southwest!
  5. Niche you and fashion aren't something imaginable to me!
  6. if you think the astrodome is bad...take a tour of the old astrodome hotel. it is step back in time. mad men will seem lame compared to the original hotel. i will add the photos soon.
  7. Went in yesterday evening with a friend from St. Germain. Items were pricey IMO. Including us, they had 4 customers.
  8. i enjoyed hearing people complain that the carts didn't have space to seat children in. must have been a heights resident. had a pita wrap where the meat was not cut from the rotisserie but rather taken from the steam tray and put in the microwave to warm up. no thanks.
  9. not surprising....only went a couple of times and wouldn't go back.
  10. worst restaurant i went to last yr. not into wolf brand chili poured on everything.
  11. this place was horrible. went once. packaged tortilla shells were used for their crispy tacos. rice was dried out. no thanks
  12. Why is it hard to imagine? I would say it was 15 ft or so to support the businesses in the area. in my youth i remember walking in the area frequently with many other pedestrians. Sears had a large store in the area which was a neighborhood staple for decades. if i remember i'll take a pic from across the street this weekend.
  13. Went walking a few weeks ago on Harrisburg where the old shopping area was. Seems it's not nearly as easy to walk as it once was. Sidewalks are no longer wide. The street is about 12 to 18" below the sidewalk depending on where you are. While the trees are nice, manuevering a wheelchair between the tree and street will be challenging. This was taken in front of a furniture store, hence the mattress out front.
  14. A coupon won't help. $13 for a gin gin mule is ridiculous. Many of their drinks have low pours like Anvil. The food is just average. Bottled, bland sauces on their shrimp cocktail is just a ripoff. Other downtown residents that frequent the place have seen a decline in the quality. Since I never liked it in the first place it just confirms my initial thoughts.
  15. Grand Prize service was mediocre which was a turn off.
  16. still surprises that rich's closed and this is it moved from midtown. the drive down san jacinto sure changed coming home from med center the other week. momentum went to washington clearly.
  17. what are you attempting to refute without offering any supporting information?
  18. having 5 police officers guarding a lady walking her dog this evening was interesting. with the street people stealing all the lights on the fountains on preston and congress, it must call for increased police presence. they've also added additional commercial parking so less parking for the avg joe.
  19. certain things there are great, everything isn't. don't get me started on their weak eggrolls.
  20. Seems Angelica Theater is now closed permanently. I guess the A/C problems they were having are just a tell tale sign.

You won't find it in the Chronicle, but the latest on the sports authority funding going into the junk realm is that it is no longer in the junk realm. "Moody's upgrades Harris County-Houston Sports Authority, TX's (HCHSA) outstanding junior lien 2001H bonds to Baa2 from B2, third lien 2004A bonds to Baa3 from B3; and outstanding senior lien bonds to A2 from Ba3; outlook is stable" https://www.moodys.com/research/Moodys-upgrades-Harris-County-Houston-Sports-Authority-TXs...

Oh, and more information you'll never read in the Chronicle. Remember when the Tollroad Authority "paid for" the practice fields at NRG Park? Rather than be paid by general funds or cause a toll increase, as some on HAIF predicted, the Sports Authority has been paying the Toll Road Authority back, with interest, right on schedule. Good investment by the Toll Road Authority.
