  1. What a great idea! My list would be: Vietnam Restaurant (spicy fried eggplant)Christian's Tailgate (burgers are some of the best i've ever had)Candelari's (although seems to be going downhill in quality lately?)Asia Market (truly incredible Thai)Mam's House of Ice I'm probably just under the quota on Berryhill, El Rey, Chilosos, Lola andSpanish Flowers.
  2. I thought this thread was new at first and then found it fascinating to see how dining options have changed in the past few years. Now I wish I went to Jazzy's Cafe before they closed... shame. I'd still cast a strong vote of desire for a good local Indian place. I've spoken with a number of people recently who asked me if there was one in the Heights.
  3. Interesting... do you mean the pastor's last name is actually "Fake" or is it a fake? A quick google search finds only obituaries of people that reference teaching or attending Timbergrove Baptist Church. HCAD still has the ownership as "Timbergrove Baptist Church" but good luck finding any more information than that through a tax bill since it is exempt.
  4. Phew. I'm answering my own question. Looks like Freebirds is still in, but I'm totally disappointed at the lameness of this plan. Subway... Matress Firm... Radio Shack... Payless Shoes... Cash Store... Dickey's. Are you kidding me? This is discouraging my trips to Target. Does anyone know if there are plans available for the Orr development on Heights? (discussed on another forum maybe?)
  5. Woah! This totally sucks. How did you find this out? Is Freebird's still in?
  6. There is going to be a Trash Bash to clean up Little Thicket Park on Saturday March 29, 2008. It is located just west of Ella at the end of W 23rd St. I went hiking around the park this past weekend and it has a ton of potential, but has a lot of trash scattered throughout it right now. With a little cleanup, the park could be a really great natural area to go hike around, etc. It is also an official nature sanctuary for migratory birds (if that is something you are into). I've seen plans for the park to have a complete "hike & bike" overhaul, but don't know if that is still in the works or not. The cleanup effort has the support of the Shady Acres Civic Club, but will need help from anyone who is willing to pitch in. More information can be found at the following links: http://www.trashbash.org/site_little_thicket.html http://www.shadyacres.org/index.php?topic=34.0
  7. Only some of the best sandwiches on the planet. If you like hot peppers, this is the place for you! If not, well, you'll probably still like it. And their prices are really reasonable. There is one in Uptown Park and one close to Greenway Plaza on 59.
  8. I could not be more excited to hear about the Potbelly and Freebirds! Ahhh, bliss! Does anyone know if there is a forum discussing the new development of "high end retail" on Heights? I think it will be south of I-10?
