  1. There are 2 parties involved, from the very beginning, and neither should be able to just "choose" the other out of it. It's not his body, but it's his legal and financial responsibility once that child comes into the world. In that case he should have just as much input as she does. To me there's no real difference between the situation of the man wanting to keep a child and the woman not wanting to, and the other way around. Neither is a good situation, but the decision was made by both parties before you even get to that point. If you get to a disagreement between man and woman on whether to keep a child, it's already a bad situation. But it's one they both are in, not just the woman. I'm not saying there's an easy answer on how to resolve those situations, I'm just saying one party shouldn't have all of the power when both are undoubtedly involved.
  2. So you think a child created by a man and a woman belongs only to the woman? I'm not saying all men are reasonable on this issue, but to say men shouldn't even be involved is taking it way too far.
  3. I haven't found it that hard to turn east on Allen Pkwy from Dunlavy, the light down at Shepherd creates good enough gaps. You just have to book it sometimes. The left turn from Allen-west to Dunlavy has a short lane right now, mainly because there's a left turn right before that. Perhaps those 2 turn lanes could be joined up for a longer lane. As long as they keep it no left turn onto Allen I think that will work fine. It's too close to the Waugh underpass to do much else I think. I doubt widening the ROW is an option because even if they wanted to cut into the hike/bike trail area, there's a cemetary right across from Dunlavy.
  4. The last few times I've been there it's been dead, save a few teens roaming around. We go to the NY Pizzeria sometimes. The Cafe Adobe is ok, but doesn't compare to the one on Westheimer as atmosphere goes, and on top of that their drinks are more expensive. I've never felt unsafe, but I have gotten that ghost town feeling the past couple of times.
  5. After getting my original Heights layout map print I had questions about Portland/Tulane, Railroad/Nicholson, and Durham/Nashua, and this post had already covered those. This forum rocks so much. Thanks HAIF!
  6. Maybe it's a pretty vs ugly thing. Nice, slick tv screens are pretty, billboards ugly. I like to look at a nice bungalow, but not if the windows are busted out and there are weeds 5 ft tall in the yard.
  7. The Texans, as unglorious as they have been, beat out your lack of Utah team any day of the week. And football is king, take your little basketball victory and go high five someone.
  8. I don't think TVs have to be tacky. I travel to Cincinnati often, and in one of the main squares downtown there is a huge tv on top of probably a 7 story building. At all times of the year I see people sitting out there watching, hanging out. It's nice. That square is also where they do the place they do the outdoor ice rink, they are constantly doing something new or seasonal there.
  9. You can't get more bang for the buck than being able to pull over one after the other, which I see them do all day, both ways, on 288. Personally I'd feel safer if they did a damn thing about catching people who steal things, but according to them it's pretty much not possible.
  10. I think Bronson Arroyo just sucks, he has thrown batting practice all year. EDIT: I was at tonight's game, on a business trip. Great park, but the fans were weak. I thought Houston fans were weak, showing up late and being pretty quiet, but there were only 11000 people there, and no noise except when Griffey came to bat. I expected more from a team with such history.
  11. I second that, having grown up in LA, 22 years there. Don't know about the border towns here, but small town LA can be downright scary.
  12. If you go to their website http://www.waterlightsdistrict.com/polling/ they are still taking votes for which restaurants to put in. That tells me they aren't even close. Or they suck at updating their website.
  13. Gotta be the ridiculous prices at MMP. I whined about this in the Astros thread. I'm over it now, I plan to sneak my own junk in.
  14. Careful with that, I parked on the street for "free" also, only to notice when I got back to my car, the sign said metered parking Mon-Sat, and no time range restriction. I didn't get ticketed, but now I know to watch for that around there.
  15. I love the cheesy growl sound byte when big puma comes to bat. Even funnier when they play it after a home run. Is that new this year or did I miss it last year?
  16. Went today for a picnic lunch, it was great. Wish I hadn't forgotten the camera.
  17. I work in this wasteland and I hate going out for lunch. It takes a minimum hour and a half just because of the traffic and lights on 518. I don't mind much if margaritas are involved though. McHard/SC Parkway/2234 is even worse. Still only 2 lanes, long stupid lights that are red when no one is even around the cross street, and so many construction vehicles that it has a constant layer of dirt/mud. My car will never stay clean. If they build me a wings 'n' things (but not on 518) I might complain less. Maybe.
  18. That's really my biggest hangup with shopping centers. I hate parking lots and a building strip that has no features at all. I get that people need to buy things, I do it to.
  19. Dammit! Who is in charge of making shopping centers suck so much? They are really good at it.
  20. The game really was awesome, you got to see a great pitching duel turn into a HR fest, and no better way to welcome a guy to the city than a bottom of the 9th walkoff job. Whoever was in charge of the scoreboard last night might be looking for a new job today, for the first 5 or 6 innings it was screwed up across the top several rows. You would think they would get all that worked out and tested by opening day. I heard they let you bring food (maybe not drinks?) into Coors field, does anyone know if this is true? That would make a huge difference.
  21. I believe there was a Japanese Festival going on at Hermann, that might have been the reason for scarce parking. I haven't had problems finding a space on most weekend mornings when I have gone out there.
  22. The home opener was sweet! Those were some bombs for home runs. Maybe it's cliche to complain about concession prices at the game, but I went to the game tonight and it is just ridiculous. As far as I remember 4 years ago the 16oz beer was $5.75, and now it is $7.25. That's a 26% increase over 4 years, and it was still overpriced back then. The inflation standard is what, 4%? Anyway, the food prices are just insane too. I can't imagine bringing a family of four there and eating or drinking for less than $50. Throw tickets on top of that and one night at the ballpark is easily over $100. How do people go to every game? Do they just sneak in a flask and some jerky? I'm not poor, but damn. When is a reasonable person going to step in and LOWER prices for once? A damn coke will be 10 bucks by the time my kid understands what's going on at the game.
  23. Anyone know if a 3-month old will need a ticket? I'm hoping not, it's not like she would sit in a seat.
