  1. While it seems that Holey Moley is indeed on it's way to opening any week now, there has been no start to the updating of the theater itself. I went Friday night with a buddy to see Late Night With The Devil and i will say the screen itself was in perfect condition so it was still a good night at the movies.

I was surprised though to see that still no work has even started on the lobby even...i have been choosing the incredible Marque location over this one since i live exactly between the two and will continue to do so...so someone just update me when all begins and when it's done haha!

  2. Now they are saying that it wont offer gambling!

maybe they wanted to do it secretly but then after somehow announced they are having to dispute it? bet there will be a hidden room ;)

also for awhile there it looked like they went shopping for decor at the dollar store and big lots :/ hopefully they decided to spend a little if not a lot more ;)

  3. yeah always wondered the same although they definitely made it look better when the Post Oak Blvd transformation happened. it sits out of place on a street that has so much grand scale development (apart from the mcdonalds ;) )

and don't even get me started on Post Oak Corner ;) i will say that i know of a restauranteur that wanted to take over the long abandoned bank building at the edge of Post Oak Corner but they turned him down for a 10 year lease...so not sure what in the heck is going on with that darn thing!

  4. I agree that the plaza looks amazing! and hey are you speaking of the blue tiles above Local Foods as shown above? they spent like 2 weeks putting those tiles up! what i want to know is if they are really keeping the turquois on the metal as i hate it haha! it doesn't look as bad in this photo but in real life, but in person, to me, it looks unfinished. we shall see! Right now they are finishing up the wood slats panels over the large outdoor/patio area. The inside looks finished from what I can tell!

  5. yeah...don't get me wrong either...i love the older buildings so changing this (and lower westheimer) will make my heart kinda hurt to be honest as i miss the montrose of old (80's/90's) i am just so darn confused about how SW's stays afloat!? haha! Is it way busier than i can ever tell?

  6. Hey, seeing all this development, how in the heck is Slick Willy's still around? It is such a LooOOoooOoOooong time staple of Montrose so there is that of course...but from what i can tell it never seems to be as busy as it was back in the 90s early 2000's...

I wonder if it will ever be upgraded or change hands etc...

  7. ps...

after reading this: https://www.hotelnewsresource.com/article130443.html if i didn't know any better i would think that The Post Oak Hotel and River Oaks District were next door to each other!

which gave me an idea... so he buys Post Oak Corner, builds a giant observation tower (to FINALLY do something with that dang lot) and part of that huge high rise of a tower includes a luxury (of course) gondola that takes them down to ROD!!! ha! I will submit plans to his office this afternoon 😛

Hoping for an early summer opening...crossing fingers because i really am excited to see what they do with this place!

    Just FYi:

taken from Houston Chronicle Nov 16, 2023

So what's up with the River Oaks Theatre?

Way back in May, Culinary Khancepts, the new operators of Houston's last remaining vintage movie theater, announced that the shuttered venue might reopen by the end of 2023. Now we're coming up on Christmas, and it still doesn't look like anyone should be planning to spend their holidays watching the latest releases at a renovated theater.
But anyone who has driven by lately has seen new construction fencing surrounding the building at 2009 W. Gray, while the marquee has been partially dismantled. According to Maureen McNamara, co-founder/director of the nonprofit Friends of the River Oaks Theatre, everything is still moving forward.

"I got a text from a friend of mine who just asked me what was happening with the River Oaks and said it looks like they've demolished the marquee. Actually … they are taking everything down to rebuild it," she said. "That's part of the restoration process that the sign company is doing. So, they're doing a full front-facing restoration of all the metal panels, all the letters and the neon, and all of that."

McNamara says Culinary Khancepts is in the midst of applying for national historic designation for the theater and has already received state historic designation.

"This is good news, but it's part of what's made waiting kind of harder," she says. "With national historic designation, you're able to not just have greater protections for the building, but you're also able to apply for tax credits for the parts of the restoration that are preservation related. That is a really big deal for the theater, obviously. It's one of the things that helps make the theater a stronger success over time."

Bottom line: There's still no word on an opening date.
