They planned this garage before they even secured new tennants. Not the other way around.

If they are afraid of the heat they will be back in November ;-)

The 90s are nothing. Temperature is all relative. You can run but you can't hide, so why fight it? Should we all stay insdie? Or perhaps the answer is a quick dip in Kinder Lake.

The only re-orgs I am seeing are as a result of acquisitions. Everyone is swapping assets.

I too am in the biz. I don't think it's nearly as dire as Vertigo suggests. Lots of demand for engineers, drafsmen and measurement anlayst type folk. And once you add these types there is trickle-down in other departments. And contract is cool if you ask me. We have one guy who has been contract seven years. They tried to convert him but he keeps saying no.

Please note nowhere did I say them swimming in Kinder Lake was a bad thing. As a wise person observed, "that's Texas 2008." You see new things every day. Of course that water quality is not that great for swimming.

Has to be. But most are CHUD. You'd never realize it. Downtown is boring. I have consultants that spend weekends in downtown Houston. They like the city but can't stand downtown. Nothing to do at all they say.

Ov vey. Let's just say if you let your child swim in Lake Kinder you need to have your head examined.

I am saying there was only one group of people swimming in Kinder Lake. And I think they were all from Mexico. That is all.

Must be practice for crossing the Rio Grande. I saw the team from Nuevo Leon practicing there on April 20.

Fortune 500 In Houston

By Libber I don't mean to suggest we take money from the Fortune 500. That's what Barry Obama wants to do. But with all this prosperity you would think this state could get it together. We can't even build roads. So we could have all the 500s and it wouldn't mean much.- 219 replies

Not to sound like some wishy washy lib but we should expect better. We have the business in place. What's the next step? We seem like a state without a plan.- 219 replies

Texans living in urban areas are less likely than the average U.S. citizen to have health insurance. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, almost one in six Americans is uninsured; in Texas, the ratio is one in four. While there is substantial variation among Texas cities, every major city has an uninsured rate higher than the national average. http://cpa.state.tx.us/specialrpt/uninsured05/ Texas is #49 in verbal SAT scores in the nation (493) and #46 in average math SAT scores (502). Texas is #36 in the nation in high school graduation rates (68%). Texas is #33 in the nation in teacher salaries. Teacher salaries in Texas are not keeping pace with the national average. The gains realized from the last state-funded across-the-board pay raise authorized in 1999, which moved the ranking from 33 to as high as 26th in the nation, have disappeared over the last five years. Texas was the only state in the nation to cut average per pupil expenditures in fiscal year 2005, resulting in a ranking of #40 nationally; down from #25 in fiscal year 1999. Texas is #6 in the nation in student growth. The general student population in Texas public schools grew by 11.1% between school years 1999 and 2005, with the largest percent of growth seen among low income and minority children. Between school years 1999 and 2005, the number of central administrators employed by Texas public schools grew by 32.5%, overall staffing in public schools grew by 15.6%, while the number of teachers grew only 13.3%. http://www.window.state.tx.us/comptrol/wwstand/wws0512ed/- 219 replies

This afternoon (Tuesday) I noticed the Debuffet sculpture was sealed off by tape and cones. That thing is more or less fiberglass, but I did not notice any damage.

The International Fest was under everyone's radar if you ask me. I can't say I ever even heard any pub for it. We hit Dico Green Saturday afternoon. The kids loved it. Tons of people everywhere with the Rockets and Astros playing.
