  1. I'm pretty sure that the Blue Beast was not functional in 1999 when I saw it. It looked narrow and somewhat unstable. The stats didn't give the diameter of the Blue Beast...bummer.
  2. Fun facts from the 1999 Splashtown website: The Hydra! Screamicles: A free-fall cliff dive. (54-degree drop, 66 feet tall, 223 linear feet) Weaknesicles: Speed Slide (66 feet tall, 320 linear feet long) Longdropicus (66 feet tall, 320 linear feet long) And the Blue Beast! Enclosed Body Slide Four flumes Approximate tower height -- 54 feet tall Two twin loops -- approx. 214 linear feet Two serpentines -- approx. 376 linear feet
  3. This letter explains everything...pardon the bad writing...I was a teenager then...who was kind of immature. Can't read? I'll type out the text eventually.
  4. Finally...the last page. This one just continues the Hydra page. Note the people carrying Pepsi cans. How I got such a thing will be discussed...next time. AND some information on Hanna-Barbera Land!
  5. The blue body pipe slides were near the Texas Freefall (you climbed the same stairs). They looked narrow, and I guess I was right. Also a little unstable...
  6. Even in the 1980s? (I hope you know the answer to that because I don't...I first went to Splashtown in 1998, when the Hydra was still open...
  7. Does anyone care...? I have the last page...I can scan it...but I don't want to if there's no demand.
  8. Page 2! Don't you love that hot 80s babe on the cover? (I do...but it's the 80s!) And one more! Last page tomorrow.
  9. The Wikipedia article for Hanna Barbera Land was largely composed from a letter I got from the manager of Splashtown. I'll scan it someday. I know that strip center! It wasn't in Rice Village...but it wasn't too far away. I ate at a dirty Middle Eastern buffet there. Anyone know the name? (sorry for doubleposting)
  10. Also, does ANYBODY know the name of the Chinese place where 2nd Chance Resale is on Wellborn now?
  11. WHOA! I just threw away a frisbee featuring the long gone restaurant! So that's how it came into our family's possession...
  12. So the Tinsley's in Huntsville is probably closer to Chicken Express and not the original Chicken n Rolls? That's a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping to try it if I ever found myself in Huntsville someday.
  13. I hope that Rice wouldn't change their name...since Baylor Med is apparently broke, why not absorb them? The "clash of cultures" seems imminent. I say no.
  14. Obviously, the new development is in the place of the old Mervyn's: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...mp;t=h&z=18 Well, Mervyn's is now dead nationwide...
  15. Wasn't where Town and Country Mall used to be...before the mall, supposedly there was an open-air mall anchored by Joske's (which carried over to the mall) and Sakowitz. Then they razed it to build the mall. Am I correct or do I have my facts all wrong?
  16. Holy crap! Where did you find that? I'm pretty sure the Orange Julius is now the other entrance to American Eagle, but a look at my own picture vs. the current mall directory, the entrance to the restrooms changed. Let's see, the Orange Julius was basically gutted between American Eagle Outfitters and the restroom entrance, and Pepe's and Ken Martin's combined into the current Taste of the Tropics space. Or something like that if you went to the same space today, you would only Taste of the Tropics, American Eagle, and the restroom entrance. Although I'm sad that such places no longer exist in the mall today and today's food court spaces totally suck... ...for today, you are my hero. Thank you.
  17. It was in Sunday's paper and mentioned about 50 buildings (they didn't mention that cool Empire State Building-esque one near Westheimer though). I thought it was cool. You?
  18. Every hotel in Brazos County has been totally booked, so if you're looking for one, go to Killeen or a shelter.
  19. Are you guys heading toward College Station? The B/CS area will get storms and such, but there's plenty of free shelters. CSISD's shelters, for instance. College Station Middle School, the first school shelter, will be accessible if you exit Highway 6 at Rock Prairie Road. Keep going left, school will be on left. If that's full, then go to A&M Consolidated Middle School by continuing toward Wellborn Rd. from SH-6, turn right on George Bush Dr., and turn right on Anderson. School should be on right. If THAT'S full, then you'll have to go back to the high school by continuing on Anderson, turning RIGHT on Holleman, left on Welsh, and left into the parking lot. Also, near AMCHS is a church that is also set up as a shelter. Hope this helps if any of you need help!!
  20. My cousin has an old apartment in Rice Village (it doesn't even have grounded plugs!) but isn't leaving. (We've offered for him, my/his other cousin, and any number of friends to crash at our pad during Ike). Is him not leaving a bad idea?
  21. Whoa, they were FAKE? That's too bad, even though I've never been to it, I was thinking how awesome the "full size ficus trees were". Shouldn't this go in the Houston History section, like the Memorial City Mall one I made?
  22. I think those missing patches is concrete foundation.
  23. Well, I was at Mall of the Mainland a few weeks ago, and it felt pretty unsafe...it's mostly the non-race specific, roving gangs of teenagers that freak me out...and I'm a teenager too!
