  1. Hi lock, As far as we can tell, it's still doing well. We haven't been there since that one visit. Some of my neighbors say it can still be very crowded during peak dining times.
  2. Thanks for contributing to HAIF with your roof repair experience!

  3. Keep up the great work at HAIF!

  4. We made our first visit to Red Robin yesterday. It was good, we will definitely go back some time.
  5. I got an email from the Pearland Towncenter website that says it will partially reopen today. I haven't been over there yet to assess the damage from Ike.
  6. Thanks for the update. Now I'll get even more hungry every time I go to Half Price Books.
  7. Yeah...the lack of a feeder road along northbound 288 has got to be hurting these restaurants (with the possible exception of the Olive Garden). It's just so much (driving) pain to get to them. If they can hold on until the feeder road project gets done by early 2010, they should be ok. Just my opinion.
  8. Ah...this must be the one at the intersection of Hwy 288 and 518 in west Pearland...I hope.
  9. Robert Stanton had a recent update on this project in his Inside Pearland blog. His article is below. Another shopping complex coming to Texas 288 in Pearland Pearlanders will soon have another place to shop, dine and do business -- Shadow Creek Marketplace at the northwest corner of Texas 288 and Shadow Creek Parkway. A 105,000-square-foot Kroger Signature store is scheduled to open in November, according to Patrick Egan, a principal with the developers, Gulf Coast Commercial Group. Also coming in are a Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Luby's Cafeteria, dentist offices, soft goods retailers, a dry cleaners, sandwich shop, Chinese restaurant, nail salon and doughnut shop. Three banks have also set their sights on the marketplace - Chase Bank, Bank of America and Wells Fargo. Egan said it wasn't a difficult decision to buy the property in 2006, as Pearland's growth was taking off like a rocket. He put it like this: What we like about it (site) is it's one of the last remaining undeveloped pieces on 288 in Pearland. You have direct access points off the 288 frontage road that provide direct connectivity off 288. It's your first stop into Pearland for the going-home traffic. Fred Welch, who heads the Pearland Economic Development Corp., sees the project as another plus for the city's retail picture. Here's what he said: They have a great location and are bringing some development. With some of their pad sites for additional needed restaurants out there, that would support not only residents, but the folks who are coming into the (Texas) Medical Center for treatment. Egan said that about 30 percent of the retailers are planning grand openings to coincide with the Kroger store opening. When the 41-acre site is built out next year, there will be a total of 270,000 square feet of retail space. About 20,000 square feet of small-shop space will still be available for lease, he said.
  10. We tried the Fish City Grill yesterday. It was good and we will probably go back. Any of the decent fish dinners were comparable to Red Lobster in price, but the sandwiches, soups, and salads were less expensive. Quite honestly, if you are in the mood for a nice fish dinner then you will probably get more bang for your buck over at the new Red Lobster when it opens, since at RL the entree prices include side salads and cheese biscuits (all you can eat of these). Looking forward to trying Red Robin and Mimi's soon.
  11. I just had lunch with a licensed inspector who is familiar with this property. I asked him about it. Among other things, he said the grounds have alot of standing water after rainstorms. Evidently, little or no thought was put into drainage before the mansion(s) were constructed. A somewhatr perplexing and noteworthy fact, considering the amount of money put into these builds.
  12. My overactive imagination is quick to picture scenarios of psychotic escapees wandering onto my street. I beg the indulgence of all HAIF'ers while I struggle with this paranoia.
  13. The way they advertise "institutional" as one of its possible uses worries me a bit. Especially since I live nearby this big boy.
  14. Wendy and I went last night. marmer's description is very accurate; the lack of available dining seems to be the biggest drawback right now. I guess that will be fixed in a few weeks when the other restaurants open. We were also surprised that traffic wasn't heavier. We did think B&N was nicely stocked, though, and I found a book I'd been searching to find a long time. At 10pm they had a laser light/music show at the Sparks Energy pavilion (stage). It was better than I expected. All things considered, I can see us spending considerable $$ here in the years ahead.
  15. Good to know that BWSchultz. It's an advantage for us folks on the west side, I guess.
  16. I've heard the bar in Sam's Boat can be fun. I poked my head in there recently and all I can say is that it's a fairly big bar. I went when they first opened up that day, so there was not really a vibe to detect.
  17. Read this new Inside Pearland blog entry about the grand opening. Here's an interesting snippet from it: "This week, Pearland police will be stationed on either side of FM 518 at Texas 288 to manually control the traffic lights, as well as on Business Center Drive, Town Center Boulevard, Kirby and McHard Drive. If needed, the officers will physically direct traffic" Some of the blog comments were interesting too.
  18. My first impression upon looking at the plan was to totally agree with you. The parking in front of the stores will not only give the 'strip-mall feel', but it will be congestion nightmares. Especially if they don't put any traffic lights in the center, where the streets cross (I'm thinking they may use signs instead of lights for the aesthetics). However, I'm going to reserve my judgement until I see it completed.
  19. I don't know. Did you read the comments to the blog ? Some of them sounded like HAIF'ers! (Spouting off about the landfill and traffic concerns.)
  20. Read this new blog article dated July 16th about the grand opening.
  21. Read this article for an update on the Grand Opening festivities planned for the towncenter. Looks like these events will stretch over several days.
