  1. Yeah, I had noticed that construction on the east side. Your logic makes sense.
  2. The city of Pearland projects report for March, 2009 shows this entry on page 30. I am thinking that water and sewer contract is for the Waterlight district. If so, it is not slated to finish until Nov. 2009, and this might be what is holding up other construction there. Of course, I might be totally wrong.
  3. Please don't tell me you actually believe what is posted at Wikipedia is accurate.
  4. I just got a call back from a representative at the Alvin ISD. They say the land parcel they purchased for a future school is, in fact, the vacant land between Southern Trails and Kirby Drive. Looking at a map, I suppose it is still possible to carve out 70 acres between Kirby Dr. and the eastmost section of Southern Trails while still giving 20 acres for the new Lowe's project at Kirby and 518, and allowing for the other 9 acre parcel that Zann has for sale right next to the ST entrance on 518. But just barely. Many of my neighbors and I are happy about this purchase. We could have done alot worse than a school next door. Now we must hope that the AISD doesn't get greedy and resell that land later, when it really appreciates in a few years. If they are even allowed to do that, I'm not sure...
  5. I have a call in to the Alvin ISD to get the scoop on the exact location of this purchase. Hopefully, they will call back today or tomorrow. If I don't hear back from them, I will call the city of Pearland and try digging from that angle.
  6. The news announcement of this is here. It's not really clear just where this location is at yet, but it might be between the Southern Trails subdivision and Kirby Drive. If this is really the location, I'm not sure what that means for the proposed Ridge Rock subdivision that was supposed to go in there, or for the Lowe's at Kirby Crossing project. If anyone can dig up more about this, please post here.
  7. Some of my neighbors have tried it, and liked it. Wendy and I have yet to go.
  8. Great post about the current assessment of the situation in Galveston. Bravo!

  9. I've read the same posts she's put up about Aliana both here and at City-Data. She is sharing her opinion, and in a few cases she has backed up her posts with research. To my mind, she is not a troll. She is a participating member of these forums, voicing her opinions, just like the rest of us.
  10. For those interested, here's more info on the Mercedes Homes implosion.
  11. The word I'm hearing, from Galvestonians in-the-know, is that Shriner's will not be reopening. I hope they are wrong.
  12. Ok so we checked out the new Krogers yesterday. It is a lovely store. We were there at 5pm and it was not very crowded. Overall, a much, much calmer shopping experience than at HEB. However, as others have said, we noticed less of a selection on the shelves. Not to get too far off topic, but we noticed a new Chinese restaurant ("Imperial Dynasty", or some such?) is going to be opened in the strip mall to the left of Krogers. Somebody let us know when that opens!
  13. Cool....I love to exploit shortcuts. I might visit the Krogers just to try this one. Thanks!
  14. I agree that the HEB can get crazy but at least the traffic flow is regulated a little better down there. The Krogers is going to need to put in a light on their south side, near their gas pumps, to alleviate the backups and danger. I did see that traffic lights are going up at 2234 and Business Center, just a little ways down the road from the Kroger, so it's possible that will help some....although it will probably only help Buc'ees.
  15. Hey neighbor! I enjoy discussing the happenin's on Pearland's west side with ya!

  16. They are not expanding the width of the highway; they are building feeder roads. The feeder roads will be on both the southbound and northbound sides of 288, but only between 518 and 2234.
  17. I honestly didn't realize there could be a difference in ownership. I guess I could call the city of Pearland and find out for sure.
  18. I estimate at least 75% of this problem is due to one light; it's the last one on 518 going eastbound just before you go under the 288 overpass. That light is on a 20 second timer, which is far too short to process the backlog of vehicles traveling eastbound. You probably saw the gridlock which frequently occurs behind it at the intersection of Business Center and 518. Why the city hasn't fixed this light yet, I don't know, but it's been on that 20 second timer ever since the towncenter opened.
  19. Did I see a sign over by the HEB that said a La Madeline was going to be built there? I think I saw it on the east side of the HEB parking lot. I might be confused with another spot, though.
  20. The Kroger has almost finished its gas station; it is already advertising fuel prices. It is positioned just a few hundred feet east of Buc-ees, very near Shadowcreek Parkway. I can only imagine the driving chaos along this stretch of the road if they don't put more traffic lights in here. Yet if they do, it's likely to become a bottleneck. Ah, we can't have everything, I guess.
  21. I don't think it suffered much damage from Ike, because everything that was open before Ike is open now, plus there have been many more grand openings.
