  1. Exactly, the people that say that they would not have voted for a specific Democrat because that Democrat supported President Obama wouldn't have voted for them in the first place. If President Obama had came down, I think a lot more people would have been aware that they needed to vote.
  2. Can not believe Davis lost Harris County but won Dallas County. I thought Houston was more liberal than Dallas. I guess I was wrong. The real problem though was that Democrats didn't get out to vote. I heard some Hispanics voted for Abbott because he had a Hispanic wife and she would be the first lady of Tejas. (really sad) Many people did not even know there was an election. (really sad)
  3. BOOOOO! Bad for Houston. So I guess the big $1.2 billion redevelopment wont be happening.
  4. No really, great shots! I like seeing up close street level shots. Its going to look really good when its finished. I wonder if it will inspire the surrounding area to redevelop into something more fitting of being near this great building?
  5. Back in the day businesses in Houston wanted to be located right off the freeways for convenience. Today, I think more businesses want to offer more then just convenience to people in vehicles. Uptown Park will be a walkable mixed use area, and there will also be light rail near by so I think it will be ok. Also I figure that the next time the West Loop gets redone, there will be more porgressive people in the city that will likley submerge the West Loop into a tunnel and place a park over it.
  6. I think it would be ok being next to a freeway IF the freeway was like the submerged area of 59 or even better had a park over it.
  7. I would like to see much of the Rice Village Area redeveloped like this. nice sidewalks, sidewalk cafes, store fronts and people walikg around. I think much of Rice Village can be upgraded by redoing the streets in a complete streets way and change all parking to parallel and parking garagres.
  8. I hope the Dallas towers get built, at least one of them. There are a lot of rumored super talls in different parts of Houston, hopefully they happen. I would like to see another suppertall in the Galleria area. I take that back, I would rather see one in downtown (really both). Uptown just needs to keep adding density for now.
  9. I would rather Chevron move its headquarters to Houston. Houston can basically say that its already the headquarters of Exxon. If I was the CEO of Exxon I would much rather be based out of the nice new campus versus an old headqaurters.
  10. Just came on here to ask whatever happened to the development in the rendering, but then scrolled down and realized that the development that I liked so much was that development in the rendering. It turned out great but, it doesn't look like the rendering said it would. Did that house on the corner not sell and that had to change plans? I wonder if they will eventually sell?
  11. Can't wait to see how The Woodlands skyline eventually shapes up. I think it will impress a lot of people coming in from Dallas on I-45 (Even people from Houston or other places). The Woodlands is becoming to Houston what Bellevue, Washington is to Seattle.
  12. Nice! Okay houstontexasjack, lets see if you can illustrate where the nearby office highrise tower that just got cancelled was supposed to be near there.
  13. Urbannizer, All of these highrises going up is crazy unbelievable! Some may say well its only 15 floors, well I say its infill! Even if the design that comes out is not the greatest, there is plenty of space left in Houston for standout towers.
  14. If the price is low enough and the speed high enough, I could see a lot of people taking this for day trips. A few stop in Bryan a day I could also see working. Imagine being able to move to the Bryan/CS area and still be able to keep your job in Downtown or South Houston. There is already a sizable amount of people that commute to and from Houston to BCS each day already. You could even work in Dallas and live in BCS or Houston or so many other combinations. And you would not have to look at the 90 minute commute from Houston to Dallas as waisted time because you could get work done while sitting there. The possabilities are exciting! Does anyone know how long the trip from Houston to BCS would take? I know they said that BCS won't get a stop now (hopefully this changes), but just wondering.
  15. I guarantee you if we took a pole on this indoor park vs indoor ski resort, the ski resort would win. Forget making the Astrodome out to be Houston's Eiffel Tower because its not (Houston's Eiffel Tower is yet to be discovered).
  16. Green space? Thats what the outdoors is for. If you want to see a forest head towards The Woodlands and Conroe or somewhere else. A Ski resort would be a major attraction, filling hotels, boosting local businesses and so on.
  17. In all honesty, I don't think this will ever get built. They just tore down a building for nothing like a lot of other developers in Houston have done.
  18. I like it, and you are right. Its Houston and in Houston you just have to get what you can get. It could have been up to Kirby Drive and had retail on the first floor but at least its in the loop and everything in that area is getting dense.
  19. How many times in Houston have we seen apartments, houses, buildings and retail centers torn down in anticipation of a nice new highrise or mixed use development only to see nothing happen? I can think of pently off the top of my head. With that being said, I hope that is not the case with this one and the Kirby Collection.
  20. I like this indoor ski resort idea. Can you imagine the amount of tourist this would bring to the city! How can we get word to the city that this is a much better idea then an indoor park. Like tigereye said you could also have a Hotel their as well. Also could have an animal exibit like polar bears, penguins, ice fishing etc.
  21. Here is what I hope hapens, the W and Ritz keep ignoring Houston, Houston brings in its own highend brands (already happening) and other highend brands, W and Ritz start to notice and want in so they build something here to top them all. How does Atlanta make 3 Ritz Hotels and 3 W Hotels work? If they can have 6 total, Houston can surely make the numbers work for 1 or 2.
