Since the redevelopment of the Rice Lofts, ideas for a number of new downtown residential highrise proposals have been floated: Ar

guys, i think they were serious when the downtown association released that plan for downtown in the next 20 years. i am loving all the neighborhood amenities coming to downtown to make it more of a neighborhood rather than an office park.
-
cool. it seems like it is catered to the car just a little, but it would be nice to see surrounding hermann park.
-
The project is going to happen. I am very excited but weary about certain design flaws. Look for a press release in about a week and a ground breaking late this year or early '06.
from your respnse i think it is appropriate to ask what is your role in this project? just curious.
-
i don't think any of this would happen. just doesn't fit the dome realistically. but we can still dream. but anyways, concerniong that waterpark posted, isn't that the concept for Schlitterbahn (damn i can't believe i spelled that) in Galveston?
-
There is a sign up.
where is this located?
-
Where did you hear about Wulfgang?
-
guess i meant to ask you, how do you post images from flash websites?
-
I went to Galveston this week and when I passed by the Alameda Mall I noticed that they were exactly alike.
Both malls need to be completely re-worked.
eww yes.
-
that would be cool. but i would have to see the final product. probably not x games material.
-
I heard about this awhille back and now I cannot find the article. I wish downtown could have the same luck with hotels as Uptown. Hopefully that will change atleast in the next five years. Hopefully.

Are you a skate boarder Texasboy?

Houston could soon be home to one of nation's largest skate parks

We all know skateboarders and pedestrians don't mix, so there is an effort to get the skateboarders a place to call their own.
"We have one of the wealthiest cities in America, but for skateboarders, there's nothing," said Barry Blumenthal, Public Use Skateparks for Houston.
The proposed skate park will be centrally located, just west of downtown Houston in Buffalo Bayou Park.
The city has donated 38,000 square feet of land, which would make it one of the largest skate parks in the U.S.
"It would take our ability to work with these kids to a whole other level," said Charles Rotramel, Youth Advocates, Inc.
Supporters of the new park hope to be able to break ground next year.

I don't think the creator of the thread was talking about every hotel downtown, just the big chain ones like Four Seasons, Hilton, Hyatt, and Doubletree. I hope that is what he is talking about, becaue I happen to like the smaller boutique hotels such as ICON, Lancaster, Sam Houston, and Magnolia.
-
It just came to me that the only decent looking large chain hotel ion downtown Houston is the Hilton Americas connected to the GRB. The Hyatt looks horrible, and so does the Doubletree, the exterior of these hotels in downtown need to be updated soon...
Hilton Americas? What about the Holiday Inn Express?

They could have thrown in something new. Doing the same thing over 5 years down the road shows too much confidence and not enough hunger to have the game again.
-
when do they announce the winner anyway and what channel?
-
Oh come on, it's not THAT bad.
-
If that's a rendering for H-town's park, that looks nice, yo!
Now, I understand the concept of starting up development around the park, but exactly WHERE around the park is everyone refering to that you'd want redeveloped? The park's surrounded by office buildings, The GRBCC, Hilton Americas, Toyota Center, and Minute Maid Park. Where exactly is it that this thread is talking about in terms of the actual location that you're hoping to be developed around this park?
Did you see post #14?
-
Yes, it's mostly tress and roses in this area now.
-
For comparisons sake, here is the new edgewood shopping center in atlanta that might be along the same concept, with some stores having pedestrian friendly designs, but the back is used for parking.
-
Something just hit me, the track running through this development is one of the proposed alignments of Metro's light rail from downtown to the Northwest Transit Center.
-
TRAFFIC COUNTS
Richmond Avenue 36,310 cars/day
Rice Avenue 5,804 cars/day
i know this is kind of silly quoting something that i posted, but here is some proof that developers are also looking for actions in the residents as far as urban infrastructure goes.
-
that site plan is so confusing.
i see there is more than enough parking. probably more than needed. will some of the stores face some streets atleast? Maybe someone can tell me that understands the site plan better than I can.

^^^ School ya boys. Some discussions can be quite interesting when we have forumers like yourself that are educated on this issue. Let me guess, you use to not live in Houston.
