  1. Don't know the last time anyone has seen the Dome, but she is in pretty bad shape. The place looks like it is falling apart. I believe when Houston was puting together its proposal for the 2012 Olympics, it budgeted $87 million just to bring the Dome up to snuff for track and field back in 2002...that does not include a removable grass surface, luxury boxes, or decreased capacity...
  2. I think every team in the West was hoping to draw the Rockets or Mavs...especially with Raefer out with a hamstring, McGrady with a sore shoulder, Battier with a bad foot, and Landry with a sore/weak knee...man I am starting to get depressed....doesn't help that Utah is probably the most physical team, even moreso than San Antonio...
  3. Don't disagree with the Jazz in 6 prediction...though I am always cautious when every "expert" at espn is picking the Jazz in 6 or 7... I also think the Spurs have no doubt taken the crown of flopping from the Jazz, though they win championships when they do it....maybe it is just Robert Horry... I do disagree that the Rockets are very far away from being a championship caliber team. They have some good young talent in Landry and Scola, plus Yao is pretty young and really coming into his own when he is on the court. Shane is a good role player and T-mac is still a great shooting guard especially if he is not the key to your offense in the playoffs and you don't ask him to "take over" games. That leaves the achilles heal of the Rockets which is solid point guard play...the Jazz have Williams who is excellent...Raefer was the key to the Rockets winning streak when he played as well as he possibly can...without him for two games in this series hurts badly (as crazy as that sounds) and as inconsistent as he is, a championship is out of the question. So really, I see the Rockets as one key piece away. Also, remember we were one of four teams to win in Utah this year (second game of the season but it counts) and we did win 55 games in the Western conference, so don't take us TOO lightly...
  4. Yeah, I have seen Banksy on 60 minutes, his stuff was pretty funny. I guess I just see a little more creativity and thought in a work by Banksy than DEMOS written in bubble letters. But maybe this guy is protesting strip mall development...that they should all be Demolished. There is now new graffiti on the METRO park and ride garage at 290 and skinner being developed by Newquest...who knows how long it will take them to wipe this one away...It is on the facade of the third floor of the garage where the perp probably crawled onto the awning. It is not the same DEMO guy, or at least is doesn't say DEMO...
  5. Rodriguez is now 7-3 with a 2.54 ERA, 101/30 K/BB ratio, and nine home runs allowed in 109 1/3 innings at home since the start of last season. He's 3-10 with a 6.41 ERA, 76/34 K/BB, and 16 home runs allowed in 92 2/3 innings on the road. His era in his start in San Diego was 7.2...and as for the balls that should have been caught, we don't really have a strong fielding team per se, though they have been okay so far this season. So I agree, there is hope...if you pitch him at home...
  6. I can't help but get the feeling that this is going to be one of those years were we just can't get all phases of our game clicking at the same time. In SD our bats were aspleep but our pitching was on...then our bats start to come around and our bullpen goes to hell, soon our bullpen will normalize and our starters will start to get tagged....sorry for the pessimism, I just don't see our starting pitching holding this level of performance through the rest of the season. That is except Chacon...he was a highly touted prospect who may end up being a late bloomer...the potential has always been there for him to be a solid number 3 starter....Sampson and Bakke are a different story, though I love Bakke's toughness. Wandy is a wash because he can't pitch on the road, unless they schedule his starts all at home, I mean, why not???? Has a pitcher in history ever had such a steep home-road disparity for so long?
  7. ....and then it was gone....lets hope for no return...
  8. Kudos to everyone involved with this project...this looks like it will really be something special, especially if they realize the entirety of the cypress creek - spring creek branches. If anyone hasn't seen these waterways in Harris-Montgomery county...parts are simple beautiful, with steep cliffs, hills, and rapids. I am glad they are going to get the treatment they deserve.
  9. But he DID get the brick side of the new retail centers in front of Randalls on the other side of Barker Cypress....which should be a huge pain in the ass for the developer... I wonder if he is reading this thread???
  10. Now the thing has been praypainted on a brick strip center on the other side of Barker Cypress facing 290 : ( This one is pretty high up, so he may have used a step ladder... Maybe he is gaining in confidence, could be the perfect time to catch him. I wonder if these developers will pay to have some private security there overnight....
  11. Honestly, it's not that I care about the cost to the developer, it is more the image it suggests to the community...hopefully the people in the area won't stand for this type of vandalism.
  12. Oh well, that was my fault...when I said it was "professional" i meant that it didn't look like the first time this was drawn by the individual, not that it was some thing of beauty or great skill...also, this was one color... Anyway, I don't think it was gang related, I am sure it was just some punk looking for notoriety as has been stated previously, I was just posing the question as a possibility for discussion.
  13. no offense taken, not from Austin just went to school there...no doubt there is a ton of douchebag posturing and preaching...that is exactly what this kid was...turns out he was actually a friend of a friend...I don't talk to that girl anymore though.... Well, if you are such a graffiti expert perhaps you know what this means...on this new shopping center it says "DEMOS" as far as I can tell in some type of bubble font...the medium is acrylic spraypaint on glass (for all you artist optimists)
  14. infinite jim, are you from Hyde Park in Austin??? I only ask because we once heard a college kid who tagged "fetus" all over town (you may have seen it) was at a party and some people wanted to beat the crap out of him...they went to the party but the kid escaped out the bathroom window...so I guess you are right, they never get caught. I can also add that I went to a high school that had moderate gang activity at the time, worse now, and their graffiti was not for artistic purposes...
  15. Kinda amusing that you assume there cannot be gangsters in Magnolia... Somone show me some research showing that "most" graffiti is not done by gangsters...at one time it was common practice for gangs to mark territory with graffiti, maybe that changed... And unsolicited graffiti on other peoples' property is never done by artists, it is done by vandals.
  16. Commissioned is one thing, unsolicited is another...though I must agree that artist in Britain has some pretty funny and inventive works...can't remember his name off the top of my but he is rather well known... EDIT:::Banksy!!! that's his name...these kids were no Banksys....
  17. Noticed some graffiti on the new shopping center along the feeder rd. of 290 past Barker-Cypress next to the new HEB...it was on the back of the building, barely visible, then they painted over it. Low and behold now it has been "tagged" on the glass windows of the shopping center facing 290!!! What the hell is going on here? Are there gangs in this area? It looked like a pretty professional job...not just some vandalizing kids. Makes me sick...I hope they can catch these a**holes...I also wonder why they chose this shopping center and no others that I can tell?
  18. Yes, Charlotte and Phoenix played in arena's, so the capacity was much less, even so their tickets were cheaper than Reliants. Detroit was the other stadium setup - but their tickets had like 4 tiers with the cheap seats starting at like 40 bucks. See post #9...
  19. even the staunchest UH supporter would have to admit they have no one to blame but themselves. Two losses to UTEP in must win games does not a tournament birth make...
  20. The stadium is used because they want to work out the kinks for the final four where the entire stadium will be open...money money money... I was at the club level and thought those seats were great, probably better than the back of the field level. The only thing I think they should change is the seats behind the basket should be moved in a bit. And Calipari had his shot to prove it to the world on national TV and lost at home to Tennessee, who then didn't play a good game for the rest of the season...so that is why he didn't get any respect...he has it now, though, and they might not be done....they reminded me of the 1990 UNLV team. The beat down was unreal in person I really hope it is UH, I want them to be good again in college athletics...but I hate Penders, and his stubborn decision to not recruit the Houston area will be the end of him...we have so much talent, why would you ignore it just to prove your point to the detriment of your program????
  21. Agreed, wish we could have kept that series going...I guess Rick just thought we didn't need to make the trip to Houston for recruiting, we could do without it. Also, lets not get started on out of conference schedules, we played UCLA, Tennessee, Michigan State, Wisconsin, St. Mary's, Oral Roberts....all tournament teams, there are probably others I can't think of off the top of my head...
  22. Don't get me started on Penders, if you wouldn't kill to have Rick Barnes coach your team you are not a real Cougar fan...But agree Rick didn't draw up his best game plan, or make his best adjustments.... Well, Texas got shafted a few times early in the game (a blatant five second call nearly gave me a heart attack) and that got us off on a bad note with the officials...it went downhill after that with the mounting frustration...
  23. I think they capped it at either 40 or 45 thousand tickets, can't remember the exact number now. The crowd yesterday was actaually pretty full, but it was Sunday afternoon, and the fans weren't quite awake yet, which is something we had in common with our team. Pretty embarrasing performance all around. And kinkaid....I don't think Barnes is going anywhere, but after yesterday's performance he can do what he wants, our offense was completely worthless and our defense just didn't have the bodies...Callepari absolutely schooled Barnes on the x's and o's yesterday. Memphis looked unbeatable this weekend...they are playing ball like I have never seen a team play...I would be shocked if they didn't win it all. PS - Rick, I didn't mean that, I was talking out of anger, PLEASE DONT LEAVE!!!!
  24. If you only have two teams left, I think you can stop worrying about your bracket too.... Tennessee peaked at the wrong time, they hadn't played a good game since the Memphis win, I thought they would turn it around, my loss...at least I had them losing to Kansas in the Final Four...
  25. well, you are doing better than I am then, I lost my first final four team last night when Tennessee went down. I have three of four left but don't hold out hope for taking the pot this year, now I can just root for the easiest road for Texas to the title. Stanford is going to be a very tough test for us tonight, the Lopez twins present a unique challenge.
