My later re-reading of the news article indicated Pegstar is only temporarily in the Fitzgerald's space and that this is an entirely separate venue for them. They will vacate Fitzgerald's for this new place.

Market Square Tower: 40-Story High-Rise At 777 Preston St.
toxtethogrady replied to Urbannizer's topic in Downtown
That's odd. My experience with construction projects is it usually takes longer the more money you spend... Can anyone confirm labor shortages? It's been suggested as the reason some other projects in town aren't getting started as fast as anticipated.- 1,892 replies

As I understand it, JLB's awaiting the structural report on the garage before they move. If they're smart, they're going to have redesigned this complex with concrete firewalls and maybe even metal framing so it won't completely burn to the ground just because someone is sloppy at sweating pipes.

Supposedly that terrace is designed to set the mood so that when the Partnership brings that executive from the latest prospective Fortune 1000 up there, they'll be ready to sign on the dotted line.

Seems odd they'd buy a second plot rather than build taller.

HBJ is reporting that JLB, the developers behind the Axis, which burned to the ground leaving only a garage, plan to rebuild, though they still don't know if the garage is structurally sound enough to remain. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/blog/2014/08/developer-plans-to-rebuild-after-montrose.html?page=2

I can't quite tell how it fits into the neighborhood, but it looks good. I'd love to see what they do with the creek that runs through the property. It will also be interesting to see what kinds of development will follow (restaurants, apartment blocks, etc.). With the light rail nearby, it should be a good location for additional projects, but the locals may end up priced out of the neighborhood.

It looks exactly like the render for the Uptown Park highrise. Well, almost exactly. Things that make you go "hmmm..."

Hilcorp is an independent oil and gas company. The property is being developed by Hines. I think the entire building will be occupied by Hilcorp.

The Langley: Residential High-Rise At 1717 Bissonnet St.

Okay, so it's the principle of the thing... At the end of the day, I don't see any impediments to this thing being built. Unless the developer starts getting cold feet...- 1,443 replies

The Langley: Residential High-Rise At 1717 Bissonnet St.

The appeal is by the developer. Given the limited number of plaintiffs and the small awards relative to the development cost of the building, I would have thought it was chump change just to get rid of a few ankle-biters.- 1,443 replies

Oddly enough, the people who are suing to stop the highrises because of the traffic they cause don't want the bus lanes to the rail line.

I'm guessing there's a certain amount of relocation and a certain amount of expansion. Foster Wheeler's also in the market for an extra 325,000 sf somewhere. And if Rick Perry's bribes marketing are successful, maybe there will be a California transplant or two in downtown Houston.
