The Hamilton was the subject of an urban blogger's post, picked up by Swamplot. He makes some valid points; neartown Houston, pricewise, is not family friendly. It isn't really affordable for many folks. Affordable housing needs to be incentivized.

Only 46 floors, though. It sounds like this building will not be as tall as some were hoping.

I think this is a non-news event, since I don't know if this bid advertisement is new or old. Normally, they would not post a request unless there were some movement expected (after all, why advertise something if you're still just contemplating your navel?). Let's watch oil prices - which are in the low $80s at the moment.

Plenty of lots being cleared off. The developers seem to like digging holes.

So what should be incubated? No one seems to have done much with the superconductors and Buckyballs (which WERE invented in Houston), and I'm not sure what else there is in the way of tech that isn't duplicated in other towns. Maybe it's just better to bring in more museums/art galleries/restaurants/theaters/residential blocks. And a grocery; it's a food desert down there.

It's not been publicized anywhere. I'm surprised no one at Swamplot got a look at the rendering.

Anything that's a wrap with hardwood floors is considered "luxury". If it still has carpet on the floors, it's already a B. 

Apparently, we REALLY jumped the gun on this one, as Swamplot is reporting only that there is a highrise being discussed on Reddit.

Frankly, this city can't build residences fast enough. Unless oil prices are starting to take a dent out of demand, there are 22,000 rental units being absorbed a year, and 7,000 single family homes a quarter are disappearing. It takes a lot of homes and apartments to support 100,000 new jobs a year.

That on one block and the HRO on another...should be interesting.

It won't be possible to tell without a close-up. Just the fact that the cranes are moving means something's going on. Either they've got a spot of bad concrete and have to redo some work, or some of their materials are late in arriving.

The Queensbury Theatre is about half done at this point. It's Dueling Community Theaters!

dallas has a huge fashion marketplace, and lots of good PR.

That was the result of efforts by Dallas City fathers to pursue the industry. It has been a perpetual effort for them to chase corporate headquarters and signature projects; they don't have an industry that calves new companies the way the oil industry in Houston does. Even the airport had to be created.

They're doing well but not well enough for certain shareholders; it makes building a multimillion dollar headquarters a little tough...

I have no idea when that supply is supposed to catch up with demand. There are shortages of everything in this town - concrete, labor, lots, people to approve the permits - and home sales are still claiming 7,000 units a quarter. As long as job creation is over 100,000 a year, there will be no shortage of need.

As for Chevron, if their revenues start hurting that will only delay the tower. But absent a national recession prices won't stay down for too long.
