Here's one of those list things for your amusement...
Not only does Forbes think we're the coolest city (because, of course, Forbes defines cool), but Forbes has named Lower Westheimer as one of the top Hipster Neighborhoods in the U.S.

The house mentioned at the top of this thread has been the subject of litigation on which there was a final ruling last week.

It looks like the Yale bridge will be replaced
-
It's a cool gallery. It was only in Galveston for about year. That short stint and the offbeat location to which they are moving makes me a bit skeptical about its future fortunes. However, if they rent out for events like many gallleries do, the KB space may be a good choice.

It's regrettable that some medium sized trees were removed from Yale. I have to admit I really had not noticed them. I had to pull them up on Goggle Street View.
It's sort of ironic. Ainbinder preserved a lot of trees and natural scape at the Montrose HEB. They built the store in a counterintuitive way - at the Alabama end of the lot, facing south. Having gone to the hearings for that project, I see the difference. With the HEB, the 'hood was engaged. With this project, the 'hood has been entrenched. The polarized views on this project have prevented real community involvement. That has empowered any negligence or malfeasance of which this project is accused. I am sad for those who so long to be right, but fail to see the neighborhood for the trees.

Angry white people, regardless of physical configuration or political affiliation, are cannibalistic birds of a feather. They flock together, then pick each other apart, viciously.
Ah, You're wise. You have shopped at the 11th Street Kroger!

Considering the number of Woodlands residents who have moved to the Heights, I dare say they do. That's the problem.
Ugh! DATA! Do you have actual data on people trading their Tuscan manses for Mctorian manses? We also expect data in the Heights. We're rife with attorneys, ya know.
-
Tsk, Redscare. Those Woodland folk are all about their slab, stucco, brick, Mall, Hummers, and Suburbans. They just don't get our pier-beam, clapboard, Hardiplank, shops on 19th, Priuses, and Subarus. Also, we live near Downtown. And we live at least 10 blocks from poor people. What's wrong with those...people?
Edit: Oh, by "those people" I didn't mean poor people. I meant those Woodlander suburbanites. [Hiss of a feral cat].
-
So, Organization's standing is an issue. What gives an organization standing? Is Plaintiff's other argument valid?
-
Redscare: Setting aside your concerns for plaintiff's counsel, can you be more specific on the standing issue?
-
I would like some legal clarity on this. RUDH has filed a lawsuit to determine if the City of Houston has acted within the law. Shouldn't RUDH be seeking the Attorney General's opinion? Maybe they expect that this is going to be kicked out on appeal and they'll have their day with the Supremes (without Donna Summer, of course). Attorneys of all opinions on the issue, please enlighten us.

Food Truck Park proposed for W. 14th and Shepherd.
http://blog.chron.co...out-the-wheels/
This is the lot What's Up Cupcake parked in for a while.
The developers also may be able to leverage that this lot is in Heights Annex which is a wet zone.
{Bump} with new info...
HBJ (secured content) is reporting that this should begin construction in October and launch in December. Isaac Preminger is designing it. The developers are also planning a quick-serve, coal-fired pizza joint in the small house on the property which will also feature 100 wines and beers. They've hired Aldo Cantiana (former owner of La Strada) as the operations manager.

Harolds in the Heights is closing.
From the Houston ChronicleHarolds in the Heights is closing after 61 years of business. The clothing store on 19th Street had merged with men's store Norton Ditto 2½ years ago.
The majority of Harolds employees will be moved to Norton Ditto..

But Red! Whatever will you do when Wal-Mart undercuts Urban Soles and Penzey's Spices, and when the McDonald's inside drives Berryhill Baja Grill into the ground? What then!?
What say you of the price of convenience?
Indeed! The mere threat of its experiential factor already has driven Sew Crafty and Textile out.
Damn pushers. Is the CIA somehow involved in distributing this "gift card largesse" drug in urban areas?

Anyone know what is going into the former funeral home on Kirby between Richmond and Alabama? I have seen a lot of construction activity going on there and saw a sign for a liquor license application on the door the other day. Wonder where the kitchen will be?
-
Anyone take note of what's going on in this department?
Umm, I saw some dried beans? Couldn't really tell what they were, so I guess they were "unusual" They weren't clearly identified, and since the place was mobbed I didn't get the chance to ask any of the staff what they were. They were shelved with the dried herbs and olive oil.Mrs. Porchman says their heirloom.

Now that Girotto is stepping down and Klotman is in at Baylor - any chance of a rapprochement?
Better congeniality? Yes. Full-on affiliation? I would doubt it.
There were some progenitors of the split on the BCM and TMH boards, too. I believe some of those people still serve as trustees.
Also, 7 or 8 years have passed now. Each institution has built new political structures in their various departments. That would be a major barrier to re-affiliation.

Mrs. Porchman went today. She returned home very excited. She spoke with Morgan. In addition to local piggies, charcuterie, and cured items, they are going to feature:
-Heights honey
-Local duck
-Local heirloom turkeys (ask Morgan)
-Local lamb
-Texas olive oil
-Fresh bread
-Coffee
-Unusual varietals of dried beans
-Houston Dairymaid cheese (of which Mrs. Porchman brought some home ).
-Really rich milk (with a cream head)
-Fresh herbs (including chervil) and veggies
-Grain grinds (flour, porridges, grits)
-Their own jam
-Special butters
Regrettably, no edible ferns.
I look forward to going myself, and I wish Morgan and his wife very good luck with this venture.

The bridge is cool. I like its low-key design. its lighting, and the new connection it makes for peds and bikers.
I am a bit concerned about the leg which extends to the south side of Memorial Drive. If one should not pay attention to the "SLOW" signs (just saying! ), one might find oneself in the middle of Memorial Drive where the speed limit is 50 mph. I would like to see a better guard at the foot of that leg.

4866 in Houston Pavilions. I bet there is one with 10,000 out there.
Ya know, this Walmart would be a lot more exciting if it had some big electronic animation on the side of it,

The new building...will land instead on a different demo site: the southeast corner of Moursund St. and M.D. Anderson Blvd....
