  1. They are reporting relocation. I hope that's true.
  2. Please don't go so far to suggest that large, electronic signs be mounted on Greenstreet. That could derail this thread. When I think Times Square hoo-ha in Houston, I think of TillmanLand and Bayou Place. You already have electronic whoop and open spaces with attractions. Make retail viable and you closed the loop functionally. Structurally, create a wide connection between the Aquarium and Bayou Place elevated above the Memorial-Texas-Bagby intersection. Also, if somebody launches on vision for the post office site you extend another promenade over Preston (stopping on the ground shortly to visit with the bronze of Bush 41) and vaulting again over Congress). Unlike Victory Park which is being developed around a seasonal sports venue, this would be tangent to the theater district, which does business year-round, and some of the largest business towers in Houston.
  3. Yeah, Galveston has a rich history of historic preservation. That's why you drive that attractive stretch of Broadway from 71st to 25th filled with Target, Mickey D's, gas stations, cheap furniture stores, et al. : Galveston has the few blocks around The Strand, the eastern neighborhoods, the painted ladies, and a handful of homes on P and Q Streets. Galvestonians, effectively, ignored much of what is preserved there over many years as more western neighborhoods became more fashionable. This is not unlike how many of Houston's historic zones were considered rather déclassé areas at one time. If it had not been for the investment of George Mitchell, a B.O.I., in the Strand area, I'm not sure where Galveston would be today. Even now, they have a fragile environment where one cruise ship crapping out can really damage Strand business.
  4. A good time was had by all. Good to meet some newer HAIFErs. Encouraging to see the old ones are hanging in there .
  5. So many good suggestions and no decisions. (It's like a virtual staff meeting.) Friday, May 31 - 6pm or after Lucky's - 2520 Houston Av @ White Oak. Upper deck.
  6. KTRK just announced Wayne Dolcefino has resigned after 27 years with the station. It's been a while since he has posted a report. Anybody know what's going on? The timing is interesting considering the indictment of Trevino who he investigated.
  7. Some worthwhile recognition... 8. Here's one of those list things for your amusement... Not only does Forbes think we're the coolest city (because, of course, Forbes defines cool), but Forbes has named Lower Westheimer as one of the top Hipster Neighborhoods in the U.S. http://www.forbes.com/pictures/mhj45jmeh/20-lower-westheimer-houston-texas-2/#gallerycontent
  9. The house mentioned at the top of this thread has been the subject of litigation on which there was a final ruling last week. http://houston.culturemap.com/newsdetail/08-04-12-appeals-court-rules-against-anthony-petrello-in-5-year-lawsuit-over-home-sale/?fb_action_ids=4321447965533%2C4321440965358%2C4321440005334&fb_action_types=og.likes&fb_source=other_multiline&action_object_map=%7B%224321447965533%22%3A10150209531114406%2C%224321440965358%22%3A10150545621933161%2C%224321440005334%22%3A10151073091727230%7D&action_type_map=%7B%224321447965533%22%3A%22og.likes%22%2C%224321440965358%22%3A%22og.likes%22%2C%224321440005334%22%3A%22og.likes%22%7D&action_ref_map=[]

  12. You might try this.... http://www.ecosmart.com/products/home-pest-control/ ....or mix your own citric acid and essential oils. I use the EcoSmart fogger in my yard and I am pleased with how effective it is.
  13. Red, her name is Debby with a "y". 'Spect her name or she will slap you. Jus sayin. Anyway, Mrs P is stocking up at Target tomorrow and I'm going to church. We're covering our bases.
  14. It's terrific. Go. I originally was going to gush - in horrific foodie detail - about the meal. I also was going to gripe about a food blogger there tonight with her giant camera. Let me say this: Go, and if someone flaps around looking for a white Cotes du Rhone, bean them in the head with baguette. Ask Abel for his suggestions from the list. Crepe was tasty. Moules were tasty. Frites were great. Go. Great addition to the neighborhood. Be aware that kitchen service is still catching up. Go...for a casual evening.
