  1. It's funny how some on this forum have conveniently left out the fact that there is literally...literally 2 ft of seaweed on the beaches right now. I went last weekend and we walked on seaweed so deep that it buried your foot and half your calf which then dumped into the gulf. No sand...seaweed. This was about two miles past the seawall on the gulf side. For those on here who say "who cares...that's not were the tourists are," well I have news for you; the seawall area was in the same shape. Just not as deep. Something can be done, but nobody cares because it's "natural beauty." Blow that smoke up somebody else's ______. IMO** if the beaches were refurbished and MAINTAINED the influx of tourists would out-weigh the cost of keeping the beaches clean.
  2. Has anybody heard of the Whiteco Residential Towers to be built in the Galleria area? If so, forgive this thread. In case nobody knows, they are supposed to be two 35 story residential towers built at the corner of Westheimer and Sage. Construction was to begin this year.
  3. That would be ok as long as the Astros fund it. I don't think Dynamo should have to fund the Astros parking garage. However if the Stadium is to be built so close by, they need to be good neighbors and share their parking spaces for Astros games...if it is going to sit on land currently used for parking at Astros games.
  4. What is your point? I** don't like soccer. I didn't say everybody in The Woodlands didn't. My friends don't like soccer. They don't live in The Woodlands. Again...what part of my opinion did you not understand?? You guys are kidding yourself if you think that soccer is popular or will ever be popular in America. Period...the end. On a side note, the girl is hot!
  5. The Astros are a team that most everybody likes. I happen to find the only people in the city that likes soccer. NOT TO MENTION that that comment about me living in The Woodlands...yes, I do have a dog in this hunt being that The Woodlands is paying Houston millions for REGIONAL projects that benefit both. I think a stadium being built benefits more than just the people living inside the city limits of Houston! It's my opinion. If you like soccer...Great. Good for you! I don't. I don't appriciate being called a name when I voice an opinion. Just like in the Galveston forum, I said the beaches suck...that's because they do! But that's my opinion. Can any of you except that?!?!
  6. <giving middle finger> Big deal. Your probably one vent in the floor away from being in a trailer yourself there Kinkaid! Editor, I think it's funny you don't say anything to other people on this forum when they make degrading comments except to me.
  7. Not to sound like a racist, but soccer is popular in Houston because of the amount of foreigners here. I mean it only makes since. That's not to say that some of your average Americans don't enjoy a good soccer game. For example, somebody mentioned the crowds in Kansas City, MO and how small they were. I don't suspect there are many hispanic people or anybody from Latin America for that matter living in KS.
  8. Honestly...***JUST MY OPINION***, I think that building a soccer stadium in Houston or anywhere in America for that matter is a HUGE waste of money. I don't like soccer. My friends don't like soccer. My family does not like soccer. I have a feeling that there are many others out there who feel the same way. I don't intend to cause contraversy on here, but that's just the way I feel. Half the people I talk to didn't even know we had a soccer team. And the name Dynamo...can't they have come up with something a little better than that? I mean for having almost all our sports teams with a space theme, except for the Texans (another bad name), you'd think they'd follow in the footsteps.
  9. I'm about 74 miles to the island. 50 miles as the crow flies.
  10. You know what...nevermind. It doesn't matter anymore. I don't care to continue this arguement. It's obvious that all of you have a difference of opinion. Apparently you see beauty in Galveston that has been shielded from me. I appologize if I've offended anyone...
  11. I'd advise you guys point the figure at each other. I didn't make a pop mark about Galveston until one of you decided to get smart. Gary, Niche, MidtownCoog, MisterX or Mikeybob2, you need to learn when to speak rationally instead of insulting. Mikeybob2, I don't know who the hell your talking about, but I'm not a clerk. And even if I was...what are you trying to imply? The hurricane comment...ok, maybe a bit insensitive. However at this point I don't give a flip what you people think of me. I can assure you that my thoughts about you all are just as bad if not worse. Started? Revert back to your post that prompted my comment.
  12. You guys need to get a life. I was attacked first. I'm not going to play the name game here, but being called a department store clerk in TW just adds fuel to the fire. I suppose you guys did no wrong. Right?? After all according to Gary..."you sir are ignorant." I suppose you guys don't remember that? Right? I suppose the only thing anybody remembers is what I said. I wouldn't attack that landfill...excuse me...Galveston if somebody hadn't attacked my post which happens to be in difference of opinion.
  13. I've done Adopt-A-Beach. I'm not going to have time this year. However, it is a great step in the right direction. However everyday should be adopt-a-beach.
  14. hey you got me... As I've stated before...you can't do anything about the water, but the beaches can be kept up and the town could use a good cleaning. I don't know about you, but I don't enjoy starring at Oil Rigs in the gulf or looking at smoke stacks from petro plants in Texas City while I'm "vacationing." I think the highrise hotels are a great start for Galveston. Also as mentioned in my previous post, I'll give Galveston another couple of years...God knows they've come a ways in changing the place.
  15. The point I'm trying to make is that Galveston ain't the prettiest beach on the gulf coast...BY FAR!! Nobody on here can have a difference of opinion unless you and your cult join together to insult somebody. If you think that Beaumont is responsible for the Texas...not just Galveston, waters looking like mud, then maybe your the one that needs to do research. So I like Destin. So what! Just because I found the only group of people in Houston who feels Galveston is natural "beauty" does not mean everybody has to agree with you!!!
  16. Niche, ridicule all you want...the truth is the truth. Galveston is a crap hole. What Galveston needs is another good hurricane.
  17. Ok...what is so beautiful about Galveston?? It's industry, graveyards, hobo's, government housing, brown beaches next to brown waters that resemble my toilet bowl after a dinner at Panchos...maybe it's new Causeway and a highrise hotel? If I want natural, I can stay at home in The Woodlands and look at natural all day. Nothing is natural anymore...not even the boobs girls have that I go and look at. If Galveston and Destin were 6 miles apart, you'd drive to Galveston??????????
  18. Oh yes because South Padre Island is so beautiful...ok. Little do you know the Florida beaches for the most part are natural. This is from Wikipedia... Destin's White Beaches--Destin is famous for its white sand beaches. The sand is some of the whitest in the world. The sand actually comes from the Appalachian mountains. Residue flows down the Apalachicola River and is deposited into the Gulf of Mexico. Because of the currents the sand drifts west and settles from east of Panama City to the Alabama coast. Destin, FL-- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Destinflorida.jpg Galveston, TX-- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:USA_Gal...on_beach_TX.jpg Ok buddy, you need your eyes checked.
  19. Mikeybob2...Those pics were hillarious!!! . When talking about vistiors...most of those are Houstonians who can't afford to drive anywhere else. As someone who lives here, I wouldn't go to Galveston (for pleasure) to save my life. We do drive the 628 miles to Destin, FL were you can lay in sand instead of laying on sand that's hard as concrete. Brown is Galveston's como. I believe many other people would drive away as well if gas wasn't so expensive. There's not very many beaches that have one of the nations largest cities 47 miles up the road. Also some vegitation would be nice, you know, palm trees and such. Refer to the pics of Key West above. Rivers drain in other parts of the country...not just the Texas Coast. There is no excuse, besides lazyness, why the beaches look the way they do. If they'd clean them up and clean that town up, people would be tempted to go there and development would also boom. The more development, the more people that come. Raise the standards! The Mississippi coast (pre Katrina) had brown water as well, but the beaches were nice and the town of Biloxi was clean and had lots of stuff to do! I'd go back. I'd go there before I would ANY Texas beach...that includes South Padre.
  20. It's been rumored for a while now that The Woodlands Mall or a nearby location would be getting a Nordstroms. Does anybody know if this is true? I work at Macy's at TWM and my manager said that it was true and Nordstroms was just waiting on a location. But I've also heard that it fell through.
  21. Not to mention it's Austin. (no offense). It's not like they have dozens of Fortune 500 companies. If 21 floors of office space is all we can handle, then I'm affraid the other towers that are being proposed may not make it off the drawing board.
  22. wow, 21 stories of office space? What an anti-climax. Oh well, beats a poke in the eye. What's the deal with Houston anyhow? Atlanta is poping up towers left and right. Houston is putting up a midrise. ewww ahhhh.
  23. East as in the east side of DT. Anyway, I've lived in Houston since 89' and I can tell you that Houston deserves it's bad image because it does nothing to clean up slum areas. You can't tell me that the gulf freeway inside the loop or the north frwy all the way to Greenspoint is not ghetto? Not to mention the "energy corridor." What an embarassment. I think energy corridor I think high rises and tree lined streets, lights...I dont' know. When you drive down I-10 (I'm talking about inside the loop) there is grafitti and rusted out overpasses and buildings that havent' been used in years. That's something to be proud of...let me tell ya. I love Houston...don't get me wrong. It's WAY better than Dallas. But when you drive through other cities, you don't see the poor areas. Houston, which has the most expensive zip code in TX, are all hidden. I just wish they could do something that would clean our image up. Houston has great potential. Somebody told me that Houston is just simply reality. Maybe they are right. It was not my goal to offend anybody...it's just simply my opinion. About the topic...has anybody heard anything new on the Rail Yards? I think it would be a great addition.
  24. I think I'm more excited about this project than anything. The east side is...well lets face it, ghetto! This will be a nice addition. The only thing is, I haven't heard one thing about it. Is this project dead?
