  1. remember Two Pesos? i think they got sued by taco cabana for copying style. gatti's is still in clear lake, i prefer cici's or double daves for the buffet though. little caeser's still around? del taco is going strong in the midwest. ate there once, never again. hardee's is ok, but i don't mind not having it here. and i'm very glad we don't have krystals or white castle. hopefully they'll open more raising cane's here, had it in new orleans and those are some good, fast tenders.
  2. i love the wheat deep dish at Star, as do most of my friends. two rows in the village has good brick oven pizza's, and several great micros on tap (brewpub/restaurant).
  3. 62 games left, and we have 10 more home games then away - which is good since we're a league leading 34-12 at home. things are looking much better then they were only a few weeks ago, but the NL East is still really tight, and the cubs probably aren't going to go away. its going to be a good race. i saw my first walk-off homerun last night, it was great being there. too bad our attendance average is down several thousand from last year, hopefully that will pick up for the rest of the season.
  4. isn't it a bit too expensive to maintain and operate the dome for high school use?
  5. looks like clemens isn't planning on going anywhere: chron article he just wants us to get another hitter, and hopefully we will
  6. does anyone know what the expected attendance level is for the upcoming Gold cup games at reliant? doesn't seem like it has been advertized well by the media, i hope there's a good turnout.
  7. last night around 10, i clicked on chron.com and saw the headline: ensberg heading to allstar game. it was pretty vague, but it said ensberg was chosen to go to the allstar game, because an unnamed player would not be going. i was watching sports center at the time, and they mentioned how many believed ensberg should be going but he was now. i checked the astros website and there was no mention. then finally after midnight it was on the astros page, rolen dropping out and ensberg being chosen. the chron article was by Richard Justice, maybe he found out somehow before it was officially released?
  8. don't forget to vote Radar for best weatherperson.
  9. yup, got a bottle at the walgreen's on canal just last fall.
  10. we went after the stros game saturday afternoon. good place, friendly staff, but they're still working things out. we ordered a pitcher of frozen ritas, they were still learning on how to use the blender. the nachos were great though, and they have plenty on tap so you can't go wrong with that. they were really nice and apologetic, and everything but the ritas were great. we walked back by later that night and there was a good crowd, but we didn't go in since we probably weren't dressed appropriately (shorts/caps) for the night crowd.
  11. that's hibachi style, about half the hibachi restaurants i've been to have sushi as well. ichibon in kemah has excellent hibachi and sushi. i like blue fish house on richmond. wasabi right downtown (bayou place) is ok and a bit expensive, but great for a quick bite before/after a show. here's a list: b4-u-eat
  12. didn't salt lake send a bunch of busses of homeless down to vegas just before the olympics? if houston starts arresting homeless, won't that cost a lot of money, to put them in jail, considering the gaurds/food, lack of space?
  13. how about a drive-in imax with stadium seating for cars?
  14. does anyone know the future of the plot of green adjacent/west of the waterwall? hidalgo and mccue?
  15. i'm not saying that yao is as powerful as shaq, but he has had his moments against him. i had the privilege to see lakers-rockets last year where yao outscored and outrebounded him. check out these stats: yao vs. shaq
  16. we love clutch, have you ever read his fan email? it's hilarious ask clutch
  17. this isn't the best picture, took it after the game monday from i think fannin and clay. gives you an idea though:
  18. maybe if this gets built, the shops at houston center and the tunnels will be open later in the evening and all weekend. i've sadly never been to either of those places because they're never open when i'm downtown.
  19. washington univ in st. louis, is a beautiful campus, similar to rice. there were over 10 cases of people being mugged at gunpoint in my years there that i heard about with a couple being friends of mine, all walking from campus. we're bordered by a bad neighborhood, and a lot of student apartments were right on the edge in university city. but we're also bordered by a nice little neighborhood and forest park (bigger version of hermann park).
  20. there's plenty of good student areas that i had no idea existed until i started going there (UH Main). there's the university center, satellites and underground, the new athletic complex is amazing, and there is a new greek row south on calhoun. i always thought of UH as completely a commuter school, but its really not. UH Housing UH Dining and student centers
  21. the energy yield you get from solar power is really low. it would take a lot to power downtown. where are you going to put all those solar panels? they should be able to come up with something though. this is the energy capitol of the world right?
  22. that lighting scheme would be perfect for me. aren't some of those buildings partially vacant? maybe they really can't afford it... i would love to see the Power of Houston come back, there have been a lot of changes downtown, i think it would go really well with the main event. and houston has a lot more visibility downtown with the superbowl and all star games, i didn't even hear about POH when i was in stl.
  23. what about a central market? i know there's one on westheimer but houston's due for another.
  24. i stopped by the plaza last night (tuesday), it was tejano night and it was packed (90% hispanics). every tuesday they'll be there. here's a schedule. i asked a guy at the gate, and he said there was also a party on the plaza every thursday night, not sure what type of music they have on that night.
