  1. Plaza and Parkway are probably two of the most incorrectly used terms in Houston. Makes sense that this fake Plaza is on a fake Parkway.
  2. Man, I didn't realize how much casual racism and cultural insensitivity there was in some of these older posts. 😖
  3. The Stop I-45 group is trying to stop this drainage project. Their reasoning is TxDOT has claimed it's not part of the NHHIP to skirt air monitoring requirements. https://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/transportation/article/288-construction-drainage-txdot-19375066.php Local residents have concerns too. Honestly, I was at the last meeting and while I believe they dropped the ball on notifying the community on the project, the project is a plus if it reduces flooding. It's not like properties will be taken. https://www.khou.com/article/news/local/residents-against-third-ward-txdot-project/285-e951da49-6cf8-425f-8369-9ccdf40dc6dc

  5. On the Hardy Connector site, there are some renderings for landscaping, park caps, trails, and other amenities. The opposition wants no highway at all or an at grade parkway with a 30 mph speed limit. I feel like Hardy/Elysian serves that purpose now since it went on a road diet and bike lanes were added. Maybe they want something like Lakeshore Dr. in Chicago with similar landscaping on a smaller scale.

  7. When the original 1960 Ardmore St. Bridge over Brays Bayou was demolished in 2018, the contractor told me that the plaque would be removed and preserved by Harris County. I'm not sure if the City of Houston does the same thing. I think some plaques also fell victim to vehicle accidents or scrap metal thieves. The Waugh/Allen Parkway Street to Street separation was constructed around 1980 and the Studemont/Allen Parkway separation was constructed in 1967.
  8. Likely with layoffs and reductions in city services
  9. Uh oh https://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/transportation/article/11th-street-whitmire-19013536.php
  10. No. That's one of the better locations in town.
  11. So how long will this mill and repave last before they decide to rip it out to do the ultimate project with new sewer lines and concrete pavement?
  12. This is nice. My coworkers at the County kept saying it was going to be a dog park, but that never made sense to me given that residential isn't concentrated around that area, and most dog parks tend to be close to residential areas. Now, if they could just demolish 1301 Franklin, that'd be great.
  13. I have no clue. That sounds like a question for @MaxConcrete
  14. I didn't know you'd moved! Hope you're enjoying San Antonio.
  15. I thought his new safety plan was replacing broken sidewalks with vehicle travel lanes?
  16. The one on W. Gray in River Oaks Shopping Center isn't bad. They have a semblance of organization there. The one in Shadow Creek in Pearland on 2234 is probably the neatest and most organized one I've been to yet. Clear aisles and items I can't find at other locations, so less soul sucking and more treasure hunting. I wouldn't be surprised if this location starts locking up items and outright stops carrying certain items. Poor Midtown can't catch a break.
  17. I went for that location for the first and last time today. Felt like the wild west. As I walked in, a guy was walking out nonchalantly with a garbage bag full of stuff he'd stolen. Considering it was Dollar Tree, he probably made off with $9 worth of stuff.
  18. So between this, the elevated I-10, and the NHHIP, there will be continuous construction along I-10 from Voss Rd. to Waco St. over the next decade or longer. Yippee! /s
  19. Correction: should be Chartres, not Hamilton
  20. I went to the meeting tonight and here's what I found out. A 96 inch storm sewer line is being installed underneath the feeder from the 288/59 interchange to N. MacGregor with an output to Brays Bayou. The feeder will be closed in phases. The first phase will close the NB feeder between N. MacGregor and Binz. The second phase will close the feeder between Binz and Southmore. The final phase will close the feeder between Southmore and Cleburne. The entire feeder will not be closed during the project, and the N. MacGregor and Southmore exits from 288 NB will remain open during the entirety of this project. When the section between N. MacGregor and Binz will be closed, NB feeder traffic will detour westbound along N. MacGregor and north along Almeda to eastbound Binz to rejoin the NB feeder. The Binz exit will also be closed at that time and will be detoured to the N. MacGregor exit to follow the detour along Almeda. The entire project will be tentatively completed around Spring 2027. This is not officially part of the NHHIP, but it's essentially getting ready for the additional drainage that's going to come with the new 288/59 interchange. Additionally, this project ends where the current terminus of the NB feeder is. The NHHIP will extend the NB feeder from its current terminus to join the current feeder on Hamilton, so it will dovetail with that work. The first mainlane construction of the NHHIP will be at the 288/59 multiplex, so that work will be starting when this project is finishing up, so in a way, it feels like preliminary work before the official NHHIP begins.
  21. I came across this flier. I've seen vaguely worded signs about road closures, lane closures, various surveying stakes, and a temporary asphalt driveway for HEB has been paved on N. MacGregor, but no info from Drive 288 or TXDOT. I'm going to try to go to the meeting. If they're expecting closures that long, I'm thinking they're reconstructing the entire intersection or replacing bridges?
  22. Are COH and TxDOT not on the same page? COH seems to still be anticipating a N. San Jacinto extension underneath the railroad and the future Providence feeder road as of April 2022.
  23. I created a thread here around 2007-08 where I photographed some of the remaining signals from the '40s-'70s. You'll have to search deep for it.
  24. Whatever they do, I hope they preserve the bus stop with the Sears sign on it.
