  1. Maybe it was an assumption on my part, but this piece of rail out my window has been roped off for ages with lots of activity on it and it fits the location generically described in the article below. http://www.chron.com/news/transportation/article/Metro-says-rail-lines-delayed-until-2015-5762590.php
  2. So, I'm watching them pour concrete right now. It is raining outside and the place is a red lake mudpit from all the rains we've had. I can see water under the mesh of rebar they are pouring into. Will the concrete absorb this water or will density differential just push it up and over the edge of the bounded area? Any engineers out there can answer this? And yes, there is a location built out for the next crane, its currently under water, but its up against the north wall by that light rail digging error that has pushed back the east line to 2015.
  3. Lots of activity now. I see Marriott, Houston First (+garage) with new crane, and that whatever-hotel-north-of-Hess-parking now has earthmovers on it (middle left of pic).
  4. Really sad to hear this. They seemed to be doing everything right. Place was always busy when we went. I'm a landlord and I am very content to have reduced rent in exchange for an awesome tenant.
  5. Actually TPeppers if you go to the corner conference room in the afternoon you can get no glare pics. I take mine from the 8th floor corner.
  6. Just took this. pre-BigPour v2.0 As an aside, note all the activity going on behind where the new garage is planned.
  7. Sun glare against window, but here's a closer pic. And for those wanting to keep track, last weekend they connected to city water and Sept 6th 3am-9am is another scheduled big pour.
  8. FWIW I see a lot of heavy machinery on site now. Lots of construction looking people walking around. Didn't see them yesterday. Maybe groundbreaking is coming soon?
  9. fwiw as I look out my window at the construction, I see the little lot next to the Hess garage is coned off with trailers on it. Could be staging for the hotel, or maybe they're going to work on this piece as well.
  10. Not my intent to hijack, but since I'm Canadian I thought I'd chime in on the bike thing for a quick second. The best trails I've seen are up there. Vancouver, Calgary, etc and in areas and climates many reading this thread would argue is a waste. But if Canada can build a 23,000 km coast to coast hike and bike trail, I think Houston can add a few paths in the city and people will use them. http://tctrail.ca/about-the-trail/
  11. Anybody have knowledge of Distillery 2520? Not sure if its open anymore
  12. FWIW I grew up in Calgary who (like many cities) is light years ahead of Houston as far as rail goes, but one thing they do there is make all rail free for the downtown core. I think this would be a smart move for Houston to do as well, especially since the east side is now booming on its own. Moving east side workers/conventioneers/sports enthusiasts quickly and freely to the theatre district or other hot areas of downtown seems like nothing but a positive to me.
  13. My cousin was interested in Baldwin Park when she first moved here...places were priced in her range, big enough, new enough. I was in the same boat when I was looking to live inside the loop and ended up choosing the Heights over Baldwin. I got an older, smaller place, walking distance to White Oak (admittedly before it became the destination it currently is) and have no regrets. I steered my cousin away from the lure of Baldwin and she now lives on Harvard close to White Oak. Same price, smaller living space, much better location. Plus she can walk the dog at night on her own with some peace.
  14. The Schlotzkys has moved (or is moving) up to Washington Ave behind Porch Swing
  15. Friday night, 5:30 at Collinas, baby in hand. Yup, we contributed to that 80%.
  16. This could be interesting... http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2011/09/food-truck-park-without-the-wheels/
  17. Then they dont get put back up. Not sure what the big deal is about it. If my name was on such a liability I'd make the same decision as would you. The blades were rated to withstand very heavy wind gusts. They came down in 40mph winds, something Houston sees quite regularly. Hess is leasing the building, so if it goes back up I'm sure the lawyers will be explicitly taking note of who will be to blame should this happen again.
