  1. There are two published books that address the Camp Logan incident in some detail. Robert Haynes' book, "Night of Violence," is a history of the Camp Logan mutiny. Garna Christian has an excellebt chapter on the mutiny in his book, "Black Soldiers in Jim Crow Texas." This is a well-documented incident widely known by anyone who who knows Houston history or the history of African Americans in Texas. I lives for a time on East Cowan Street, just east of Memorial Park when I was a child. We found spoons and medical equipment in the neighborhood anytime we dug more than a few inches in the soil. (That was many years ago).
  2. The TMC Master plan which was updated last year includes three areas of mixed use development which combine retail and residential with medical related facilities. You can find a link to the plan at this site: http://www.texmedctr.tmc.edu/root/en/GetTo...owth/Vision.htm Regarding current dining, the new parking garage (the one with the water wall on its north and west sides) has an upscale restaurant (Trevisio's) on the top floor and a better than average food court on the ground level.
  3. Lyme Properties pulled out of the project about six months ago and sold the property. The property is for sale again--the price I heard was $9.2 million, not $13+ million. The Cambridge extension will take a little land from that site, but most will come from the Ronald McDonald property. There are Relaint easements along the bayou side of the property which was one of the reasons Lyme pulled out. GSO has been contemplating putting property at the SE corner of Holcombe and Cambridge on the market. Several medical institutions (as well as Lyme) have discussed the property, but nothing has happened. The government moves slowly. I expect Lyme lost interest when they abandoned their plans for the property adjacent to The Spires.
  4. I walked up to the construction site today but was unable to get close enough to get a good picture of the excavation. One of the construction foremen told me that he was preparing the foundation for the second tower, and that as soon as this was finished, construction on the tower would begin.
  5. I drove past the Mosiac project today. it looks like there is an excavation south of the existing tower. Equipment and construction trailers have been moved out and work seems to be underway.
  6. I am new to this list but I could not resist replying. I am amused by the questions raise about the impact of the Whole Foods market in Blvd. Place. THe national press, namely the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, have published several articles on developers who solicit Whole Foods to take space in their residential/office/retail developments, and the postive impact Whole Food's presence has on sales/rental prices and the speed space is rented. As far as the appropriatness of a grocery with a little deli in a major mixed use project, take a look at the massive project at Columbus Circle in Manhattan where a "flagship" Whole Foods anchors the project, which includes upscale retail and restaurants, as well as residential and office space. The dining/take-out section in this Whole Foods makes Eatsi's look like the food counter in the corner Mini Mart.
