  9. elnina999 has added a photo to the pool: The Mural on the ceiling of the first floor lobby was painted by commercial artist Daniel MacMorris of Kansas City. The mural depicts industry, culture, law and municipal administration in Houston. In one panel a man appears to be wearing a Confederate officer's uniform under his cape. Colors of dusty pink, saffron and rosy red were used to blend with the marble and the soft lighting in the lobby. The centerpiece of the mural is a plaster relief of the Western hemisphere, with the star of Houston in the center. The relief is surrounded by the signs of the zodiac. www.houstontx.gov/abouthouston/cityhallhistory.html View the full article

Up close the artwork definitely has a Van Gogh feel to it. :) The Hilton Americas-Houston was opened in 2003 and since then has served as one of the premier hotels in Downtown Houston. It is located right next door to the Toyota Center (home of the Rockets) and the George R. Brown Convention Center (which is connected via two skywalks). View the full article
  12. elnina999 has added a photo to the pool: Throughout the lobby, hallways, and even inside some guest rooms, the original iron support beams have been uncovered and made a central design feature as a nod to the hotel’s history. Made by the same workers who built the Brooklyn Bridge, the workers’ original stamp is still visible on some of the supports. JW Marriott, Houston Downtown View the full article
  13. elnina999 has added a photo to the pool: The doors to the building are of a specially cast aluminum. In the grillwork above the main entrances are aluminum medallions of the "great lawgivers" from ancient times to the founding of America: Akhenaten, Julius Caesar, Moses, Charlemagne, King John and Thomas Jefferson. On the front terrace are statues of John Kirby Allen and Augustus Chapman Allen, the Houston founders. The City Hall was building in 1939 by architect Joseph Finger. View the full article

The series of subterranean passages, each owned and maintained by the building they sit beneath, allows the district’s 150,000-employee workforce to take on tasks—doctors appointments, banking, shopping, post office and salons, among other things—in air-conditioned bliss.
