  1. Actually i put my money where my mouth is. I live and work in downtown. My fiance lives and works in Downtown. We are fully commited to this neighborhood. But i am also realistic. and i know Downtown's limitations. I'm sorry that hurts your feelings so much. But i don't have any control over your feelings. There's a reason why there is a network of tunnel's underneath the streets of downtown. Thousands of people prefer the tunnels. HP decided to build their development without tunnel access. That's there choice in a free market, but they will get no sympathy from me when the alienated locals flock somewhere else...
  2. Maybe you don't live in downtown, but I do. And getting bummed on a regular basis gets annoying fast. The farther you walk the more times you get bummed. Simple science. It has nothing to do with laziness, I regularly cross the entire tunnel system during lunch, it rather has to do with peace of mind. I'm okay with getting bummed once on they way to Sundance, but not 3 times on the way to HP. But maybe HP knows something I don't? maybe they're turning big profits over there?
  3. HP seemed promising at first, but the moment the residential component was axed, it made the task of supplying downtown locals too difficult. No tunnel access for the daytime crowd did not help. And I cant speak for all of downtown's residents but I live at Rice Lofts and for me HP is too far to walk to on a regular basis. As far as the rumored movie theatre goes, why would I walk farther and get bummed more when I can get a better experience at sundance just down the street from me?
  4. Snapped a shot of the new sign. Is it me, or does it look just like the old one?
  5. I really tried to support this place, but it's too frustrating. The bulk bins are empty and have not been restocked in weeks. Produce sits out for days. I walked over today to buy dishwasher detergent and the shelf was empty. Who is their target customer? Is it the m-f worker crowd or the local downtown resident crowd? Anyways their website (the downtown website) is down for non payment. http://georgiasdowntown.com/
  6. When I read about this in the alumni magazine I decided to chip in a few bucks. I hope other alumni do their small parts and chip in as well. UST wants to build this and a new Center for Science & Health Professions: But wants to build and going to build are not the same thing. I doubt both projects will leave the "planning" stage anytime soon.
  7. I work and live in downtown so i really want Georgia's to make it, but i won't hold my breath. First, the good; Thier prices are reasonalbe (mostly organic and local, so it will cost more, but still reasonalbe compared to Whole Foods), store is clean, employees are friendly, good selection of local beers and their is a good selection of organic produce, the food from the bufett bar tastes good. The bad, their overall selection is limiting. No bakery section, convienance store sized dairy section, convienance store sized meat/poultry selection. Overall beer and wine selection is too small. The check-out process is too slow. Everytime i've tried to checkout, i've had to move to a different register, because not all the registers have scales? Also i'm used to watching on a screen as my groceries are added, but here i'm just supposed to "trust" the price is right? Also, there is no drug section; no soap, toilet paper, shampoo etc... Also, their meat and poultry is grass fed and local, but i didn't see an Organic label on them, so i'm not sure if it's technically organic. The store just opened, so from what they have told me they are getting new items in everyday and some things things are not fully operational yet. So i'll give them a little more time...
  8. The IAH-FRA anoucement was made in December 2008. Also CO is proposing IAH-FRA service on a 767-200 not a 787, (which is what this thread is about). At this rate it will be years before CO gets their 787s, so I wouldn't count on CO flying the 787 to DXB anytime soon. But a code-share with Emerites is possible in the short term.
  9. A bit off topic but I've always wondered if it's possible to make the CBD a tax free zone to foreign visitors? I
  10. I hate the tunnels. They keep me sheltered from humidity, heat, rain, and bums. In fact I wish we would just pour cement in the tunnels; that way pedestrians would be forced to get bummed on their way in/out of retail stores. Besides, as we all know you can
  11. The moment HP decided to not connect to the tunnels and its daytime workers, and decided to scrap the residential component, its fate was sealed. Shopping at HP will never be any better than what can be found at a good airport terminal. Heck even Qatar Airways will have a presence at HP.
  12. LOL! Your opinion of Bose aside, Think about some actual potential HP customers. Very few Houstonians will go shop at HP. Sorry but that
  13. My short-term retail whish list: Thomas Pink Charles Tyrwhitt Bose Audio Diesel Blockbuster Video Hallmark My long-term wish: HP is still open in 2010
  14. So what exactly is the hold up on this stadium? From todays chronicle article it seems like the Dynamo are 10million dollars short. Reletivly speaking 10million dollars seems like a small amount to kill a deal this big. Or am I missing something? http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/6097170.html
  15. What you want, and what property owners want are not the same thing. New residential construction in the central business district does not make sense, unless you offer a truly luxurious product with corresponding luxurious prices. It
  16. I agree that they will rent. The Museum Tower has no problem filling up at similar prices, so I doubt One Park Place will have problems either. Maybe I
  17. In its second life, I would rather the Dome become an air and space museum. We already have all the pieces in order to make such a project, not only happen, but potentially become the crown jewel in Houston
  18. I would prefer a space and air museum rather than some cheesy convention hotel. Giving Harris County tax payers and visitors a showcase of what actually put Houston on the map would be the best use of the Dome in my opinion. Now I know we have Space Center Houston but I think that center has been pretty much a failure. Just my 2cents.
  19. For business travelers, securing the necessary visa and travel permits is not really an issue, and for those visiting friends and family it
  20. IMO I doubt that CO will utilize many of their new 787s at IAH. I think most of them will be at EWR. IAH will probably see MAD, FRA and SCL service on the 787s but that's about it.
  21. Both BA flights will be 777-200ER aircraft. http://' target="_blank">LHR IAH Dep: 1135 Arr: 1545 BA195 772 Nonstop LHR IAH Dep: 1300 Arr: 1715 BA197 772 Nonstop IAH LHR Dep: 1745 Arr: 0905+1 BA194 772 Nonstop IAH LHR Dep: 1950 Arr: 1110+1 BA196 772 Nonstop But don
