  1. A clip from a 1983 training film made in Houston. Dig the office equipment at the beginning. Full film at http://texasarchive.org/library/index.php?title=2011_02146
  2. Other than these two downtown scenes, don't recognize the neighborhoods. You can see the full film at http://texasarchive.org/library/index.php?title=Target_Delinquency_-_The_World_of_Billy_Joe
  3. Ditto on Shorpy's, I also collect New Orleans which they have a lot of good one. Also some good Kodachromes slides from the 40s and 50s.
  4. I grew up with the story of the loss of the USS Houston during World War II and the men who volunteered to replace the lost sailors. Somehow seeing this short clip in front of the Metropolitan and Loew's makes the event much more real for me than just a story I heard.
  5. Back in the 80s I got hooked on collecting antique Houston postcards, shifted to vintages images when google came around, and now love hunting vintage houston footage, coming across some cool stuff over the last few years. I post them here as I find them.
  6. You're right. The original is even slower, I edited the sound track to get the guy to come to point, a lot of slow folksy talking to seem more trust worthy, I guess. Or maybe we can just process information a lot faster now.
  7. Can't believe it's over 40 years. I'm getting old.
  8. The McClendon shot almost got me teary, sad to see the decay.
  9. Ah, Houston Street. Popped up in google search, confused the heck out of me.
  10. I know we had a Majestic and Burt Shoe, but I really don't recognize the rest. Is this our hometown? http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/c3/ad/ed/c3adedf47ac7949e3490e62ded911cb1.jpg
  11. Pretty sure, got the photo from an article about repurposing the vintage strip mall.http://retailremix.com/houston-strip-center-retai-repositioning/
  12. It's from the UofH digital Libarary at: http://digital.lib.uh.edu/collection/p15195coll2/item/194 It's in the public domain, 2nd to last item in the description. Feel free to use my cropped photos if you would like.
  13. A close look at the sign shows more detail than I remember on later signs.
  14. I was looking at a 1942 guide online that mentioned the Bible Cyclorama as a point of interest. Located a photo from a Bayou City History article. Never heard of it.
  15. There's actually two left in Houston, now called Monterey's Little Mexico. I've been to the one by Greenspoint Mall a couple years ago, had the same platters. http://www.montereys.com/locations.html
  16. I think my dad brought Monterey home before he started bringing pizza.
  17. Found this Bayou City History Facebook Page.
  18. I edited the broadcasts to reduce the repetition of facts. At 5:43 mark they get almost everything wrong about the assassination. Audio accompanied by color film from that fateful day.
  19. The Nortons of Houston appeared in Look magazine. Anybody ever witness this?
  20. Travis Street facing south from Texas Avenue, Majestic and Iris Theaters can be seen in the close ups.
