  1. Spotted this going up on Chevy Chase a few weeks back. I apologize for the crap picture. Doesn't do it justice at all. The entire left side is mostly glass. Very impressive house. http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r85/zoomanderson/3736ChevyChase.jpg?t=1223405317 No idea who the architect is.
  2. Both it and the other Bowles & Bowles house in Piney Point have been demolished. Though great, the Weiler house was pretty far gone.
  3. Pictures of the Lindsey house are up. Fantastic place.
  4. 7627 was designed by Frank Welch, right?
  5. Glad you found that. From what I've seen, it's a great house. Needs a little landscaping though.
  6. I didn't shoot anything; I didn't think the light was very flattering that day.
  7. It's funny and sad, but I can't help but think that this house, though destroyed, got the best of the builder.
  8. 5787 Indian Circle is Howard Barnstone's Peterkin house. There's also a Bob Griffin house back there.

  10. The Deuster house is still there, but the Newsome house was demolished in 2005 or 2006, as was everything Vale did on Lacewood, that we know of.
  11. Well, they haven't busted Brichford for posting all that stuff on William Norman Floyd, so I think we're probably in the clear. I was referring to the listing of 3780 Willowick.
  12. http://www.houstontx.gov/planning/historic...ellaleelane.pdf 3023 Ella Lee Lane - Pre-War Vale design. Uses this thread a source. Willowisp and I have recently acquired a great deal of information regarding some of these houses, especially Vale's more modern and interesting designs. We're working to get permission to put them up on this website, but it's slow going at the moment. Keep checking for additions.
  13. There's another Bowles & Bowles house at 11910 Knippwood in Memorial. It was built in 1955, and has similar detailing, but not quite as interesting as the Weiler house. It does have a similar appearence, but the chimney is up front. There is dark wood, possibly redwood or mahagony and built-in storage everywhere. pm me if you want pics. There is a demo permit on the front door.
  14. Not that I have been able to find. The builder may be knocking it down before it'll be put up for sale.
  15. This house is on the market now, but has some serious issues. Problem is, it also has some incredible Wrightian detailing, with other interesting attributes. Sevfiv, you will want to see this house asap. It'll be gone really soon. Bring your camera, if you can.
  16. I don't know. I'm just following what it says on my maps.
  17. http://www.luxuryrealestate.com/797438 Hugh Roy Cullen House -Tyne Court in Tynewood
  18. http://members.har.com/sites/marthaturner/...m?MLNUM=8987822 Look for something special regarding this house soon.
  19. Turns out this house, according to Stephen Fox in the Guide, was one of Bailey Swenson's best houses. It's still there, too.
  20. I know I posted this house a while back as a 'whodunit' type of thread, but since I can't find it, I'll repost entirely. This house is located on a flag lot a few houses down from Wylie Vale's Raymond Schindler House at 17 West Lane Place and Bolton & Barnstone's Farfel house at 18 West Lane Place. A flag lot is fairly unique to the Tall Timbers section of River Oaks, in which owners of these large lots have an option to sell a large piece of their property (usually the front half) off to someone else. Other neighborhoods (like Stillforest) have lots like this, as well. I stumbled on this house one afternoon while looking for the aforementioned Schindler house. You can barely see it from the street (you kind of have to look over a new palace's shoulder to see it). It appears to be excellently maintained, too. I contacted the usual authorities and they were stumped, so I wrote a letter to the owner (I won't use his name to maintain his privacy), and he returned my letter this week. He's originally from Dallas, and had Dallas-based architect Scott Lyons design his house in 1970. Lyons was a long-time employee of O'neil Ford (he's mentioned multiple times in the book O'neil Ford: Architect. He also designed many houses in the Preston Hollow and Turtle Creek neighborhoods of Dallas. Here are a few of his projects that have been for sale in the past few years: http://www.dougnewby.com/Architecture/Arch...scott_lyons.asp http://www.dougnewby.com/dmh/texasmodern/p.../10240_gaywood/ Notice the similiar materials and exquisite detailing. Here's another example by O'neil Ford: http://www.dougnewby.com/dmh/texasmodern/p...455_northbrook/ So there's another one identified, which has turned out to be a previously unknown treasure. Let's hope there's a few more out there.
  21. http://search.har.com/engine/dispSearch.cf...mp;backButton=Y This one's very close to my office, so I see it quite a bit. Neat house, and probably one of Tanglewood's last mods before the McMansions completely take over.
  22. According to Stephen Fox, both of these are Harwood Taylor designs.
  23. Other than Neuhaus' own files, the only ones I know of were shot by Paul Hester, and that's what was used in the book. And yes, it was a huge loss. I never got to see it.
  24. Bump. This house will be open from 2-4pm today as one of Houston Mod's "Mod of the Month" listings. Don't miss it, as you may not get another chance!
