  1. yeah, we need something like this that is going up in nyc. but honestly think it would be better suited for downtown than uptown.
  2. i hear that the winds up there (top of the reliant building) can be pretty ferocious. would that have been open-air seating?
  3. all of these great ideas. i wonder if anyone from the company (government entity) that manages the dome is on this list?
  4. yeah, and with houston's diverse population, soccer seems like it would be a major draw. that is a cool idea.
  5. the former home of gilley's nightclub, where urban cowboy was filmed is soon to be a middle school. read the full article here.
  6. ..and combine that with all the sleazy strip malls with their tacky fronts and signs... just too much.
  7. man ... not sure i like that idea. once legalized gambling gets ahold of a city, it is hellish.
  8. wow! that would be great. kinda like grand central station in a sports theme? i like that idea too. it could serve as the transit hub for the city (instead of downtown). abundant parking, covered (dome) terminal, access to/from 610, 288 ... nice!
  9. remember in some of the earlier rodeos, there was always some stunt man falling from the top of the dome. those were fund times.
  10. kinda like a houston world's fair? and by the way, what ever happened to those events? did they just kinda fade away?
  11. exactly ... that's what i was thinking too ... apparently some group has plans for something like that, but not sure if/when it will get off the ground. i am sure funding and construction is a major issue for anything related to the astrodome.
  12. yeah ... it would probably be outlandish. but then, so too would the fun ... can you imagine hiking through airconditioned comfort? lol
  13. i sorta liked the sports activity idea. make it wild inside (mountains, lakes, etc.) and let people come in to mountain climb, ski, dirt bike, etc.
  14. i have to agree ... that would have been a much better design.
  15. i always thought the UoH architecture school of design building was really wimpy too ... i mean, i am no architect, but just about ending his brilliant career with that...?
  16. i also did not realize he did the post oak central. i've often liked the redundancy in design of these towers and four leaf towers in the galleria area.
  17. this is a recent article on the passing of the pioneering architect of some of houston's most famous buildings. complete article can be found and heard here.. some of his most famous designs are the penzoil place complex, the ncnb center houston, and also the williams tower.
  18. one of the local tv stations did a story on it a few weeks back. they are gonna have a really nice interior. and hopefully more space for their congregation. i am not a minister and generally do not subscribe to mega church concepts (td jakes, osteen, the bakers before their downfall, etc.) but i listened to one of his sermons one morning on television (usa channel i believe), and i was blown away. it seemed like he (his message, the message of the God?) was talking right to me. i would like to visit the church once it is completed just to see what the power of a people can do.
  19. yeah, i think they are playing it too safe. i really appreciated the republic bank building, etc. that pushed the design limits in downtown. now they are just building these really safe, boring boxes.
  20. check out this document: city of houston-lakewood agreementdocument
  21. i beg to differ. they are trying to pay these ENORMOUS mortgages. do you know much the monthly note on an $10M building purchase and an $80M renovation runs? can't be cheap.
  22. i noticed this too ... it is in westchase, near me. speaking of which, how did this neighborhood come to be. it seems to have a very strong business community.
