  1. http://maps.live.com is awesome

Zoom around and post cool stuff!

    Here's one: http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&...2&encType=1

    flipper

Someone find a bigger swimming pool:

    http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&...1&encType=1

I used to drive by that first house all the time when it was under construction a few years back. It was being built for one of the Enron guys I believe (the one that railroaded his bosses when he and his wife turned states).

That pool is part of a club house/community center I believe.

  2. I really like that ravine lot. There was a beautiful lot on Buckingham (much larger, much more expensive) down by Memorial and 610 with a 40+foot drop in to the ravine behind it and a three level terrace that was built in to the "cliff" as well as a small apartment built in off of one of the terrace levels.

I would love to be able to build on a lot like that someday.

  3. Wouldn't surprise me, but I'll bet that most were robberies and assaults.

I'm still going to doubt that statistic and like I said, I'd love to see the information.

Here is an example of how few violent crimes actually occur in Sharpstown:

    October 1 - November 1:

    Armed Robbery: 1

    Assaults: 1

There were 1,067 incidents involving law enforcement, of them, 214 were calls for service, 128 were citizen contacts, 52 reports were made, 148 special watches were requested 226 were traffic citations, 87 were vacation watches, and 40 were warning citations. 83% of the law enforcement activity in Sharpstown were tickets or "helping out" the citizenry.

So you can see how I highly doubt that 81 violent crime number at the mall alone.

He is popular with making grilles!!..lol

Rob the jewelry store and tell them "make me a grill".

  4. Prob all visiting this guy...

Not really. He sells $50 watches with $1000 price tags and discounts them to $150. That is the majority of his business. Most of his sales are on lay away as well. I was in his store XMAS eve and he was there and had a security guard escort him out. I thought to myself..."he is a little self important, isn't he". I do know that the Bently Continental parked near the back entrance to the mall is his.

I actually consdered buying a watch on XMAS eve when they were 75% off and there was one I actually liked the looks of. I figured if it was cheap enough, it would be worth the novelty alone. Then I found out it wasn't even automatic. Battery watches with a $1000+ price tag and only gold "plating" (rose in this case). WTF is he thinking? Had it been automatic, I'd have bought it (on sale for $165).

  5. It's worse than he tells it. In the 80s the worst criminals in that area were teenage "thugs" that did stuff like break into cars and spray paint on buildings to act bad and be "cool". For the most part it was a safe place. These days that entire area is full of professional criminals, prostiution, drug activity, and full fledged gang members (international ones as well....plently of MS13 in Sharpstown).

Sharpstown still is not as bad as people think it is. They mistake Fondren SW, Forum Park, Alief and other areas for Sharpstown. The mall, while not nearly as nice as it used to be, isn't at all a bad place to go. Just don't expect to find everything you are looking for there.

Yeah, that's true. I don't go into Sharpstown Mall at night. I haven't been there in a while though. Too far. I stick to Memorial City, West Oaks, and Katy Mills.

    Sharpstown mall is plenty safe.

Were they on tires actually attached to a Porsche? B)

There are quite a few really nice cars parked at Sharpstown at any given time. There are at least 3-5 late model Mercedes Benzes including several new S-Classes, a few AMGs, etc. There is generally a Bentley or two, a few late model Corvettes, a Rolls every few days and even Ferraris are not totally uncommon there. This, in addition to the tons of tricked out cars that are there on a daily basis with expensive rims that stay ON the cars.

  6. 2727 Kirby at River Oaks

2727kirby.jpgThe latest high-rise in the Houston area is in the Upper Kirby/River Oaks area of Houston. The 30-story tower is crafted in glass, stainless steel and stone and sits on a narrow lot that is less than an acre in size. 2727 Kirby will have 96 units which will be one-, two- and three-bedroom condos ranging in size from 1,250 square feet to 6,100 square feet. Units are divided into residences and "estates" which have an elevator that drops them off into their unit. The residences have fireplaces and a private terrace equipped with an outdoor kitchen.

The building, designed by "Ziegler Cooper Architects, includes a six-level garage topped by the Aqua Level which includes fitness, pool and spa facilities. The west side of the Aqua Level will be home to the Sunset Lounge, a formal entertaining area for dinner parties of up to 50 that has a catering kitchen and a wine storage room. The Aqua Lounge faces east and is a more casual venue with billiard tables and a bar. The infinity pool is surrounded by private cabanas and palm tree and there is also an outdoor fireplace and hot tub. The south side of the Aqua level will include a library, media room, and a putting green. The building will offer private gardens for residents with a green thumb. The lobby will include a large contemporary glass sculpture. Units are priced from $500,000 to $7 million.

(Happens to be from another source as well)

  7. This home has also been discussed in other threads here.

As long as the home has been in MLS (496 days as of today), it has always been listed at $4.7 million. The agent remarks state that the home is about 70% complete and that it will be finished at that price. I imagine that he would be willing to sell it in its current condition as well, just to get rid of it.

The house has been "near completion" for a couple years now.

  8. That house is a disaster. I believe, it was, initially being built for Rep. Vo, but when the budget quickly ran out and then they realized it wasn't worth what was spent on it, it has been a mess trying to get rid of the thing.

I met with an agent that was showing the house privately about a year and a half ago just before I started a project down the street and she eluded that it was initially being offered, still incomplete, for 7.5mm. So far as I know, it is STILL incomplete and has dropped a lot. Eventually, they will have to liquidate it. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a tear down with as hideous as the house is.

  9. I haven't seen the G8. The former GTO was a Holden Monaro. A Holden with a very bland design.

Btw, an Australian friend says that in Australia the Monaro/GTO has a very "boy racer" image, and he wouldn't ever drive one.

In Oz, perhaps. Just like a 3series BMW Coupe has that image in the UK while it is a decently prestigious car here.

I personally like the GTO, but I don't love it. I wouldn't own one, but I'd certainly drive one again.

  10. Yeah, but taht difference would be lost in emissions compliance, tariffs and transport. There is a reason why Holden vehicles with the same power plants as their US counterparts (GTO, Corvette, etc) have higher power output. The emissions laws there are far more lax.
