  1. Abe Saavedra, Houston ISD's Superintendent just recently recieved a salary increase from $278,100 to $301,100. That is a major increase. HISD Board members said he deserved every penny of it for all his hard work put into the state's largest public school district. Maybe he does deserve it, but I don't think HISD is one of the better school districts in Houston's Harris County.

  2. The PASA Report does have serveral errors in it. For example according to PASA Klein Forest and Klein High are projected to have 3,500 and 3,400 in 2008, and 3,700 and 3,500 in 2013. Klein Forest already has 3,500+ students and Klein High has 3,400+ students. Klein Collins was projected to have 2,900+ in 2008. We currently have 3,200+ students. I thought Klein Oak had about 2,200-2,300 students. I heard somewhere else that they have about 2,800. There are many other errors in the report also. I hope the new report released in June 2007 is alot more better and accurate than the 2004 report because they could have done a lot better job.

  3. Chris-

Did you attend the Community Forum at Klein Oak regarding zoning proposals? If you did, would you be so kind as to give us your thoughts on how you thought it went on this rather contentious issue for Klein ISD? Thanks!

No, I didn't attend the Community Forum but I think this is an issue that has been blown out of Proportion by a great percentage. Here's the issue. Frank Elementary School will open next year in the southern part of in Gleanloch Farms near the intersection of Champion Forest and Boudreaux Roads. Klein ISD's proposed Frank zone is designed to take about 30-40 percent of Gleannloch Farms south section and the other 60-70 percent is to come from 2-4 subdivisions that feed along Boudreaux Road to relieve Korhville Elementary also. The new Hassler zone calls for the remaining 60-70 percent of northern Gleannloch Farms. Most Residents in Gleannloch Farms is wanting the district to let all of Gleannloch Farms students to remain at Hassler and take a majority of Korhville Elementary students to make up the Frank zone. The district cannot do that because Gleannloch Farms has too many Elementary Students and to keep them all at Hassler would make Hassler way over capacity, therefore they have to split the subdivision up between the two campuses. Another Proposed asset to the zoning was to move Memorial Creek Estates from Hassler to Krahn. Those residents were really not happy with that proposal. I can see why becauses the subdivision is right across the street from Hassler and 1.3 miles from Krahn. There aren't even many Elementary Students in this subdivision. For the Krimmel Intermediate zone it is designed to take just about half of Hildebrandt's zone. The southern border line for the Krimmel zone is the same line for the Frank zone in the south part of Gleannloch Farms. Once again residents are upset and thimk it is unfair to let 30% of Gleannloch go to Frank, Krimmel then Klein Oak and the other 70% go to Hassler, Doerre then Klein Oak. The Feeder Zoning is wrong and unfair for the north part of Gleannloch Farms. Doerre feeds into Klein HS, so students will have to depart from their freinds at Doerre that are going to Klein HS because they are zoned to attend Klein Oak, which is a different story for the south part of Gleannloch Farms which will be going into Klein Oak from Krimmel. I am right beside Klein ISD for the Elementary Proposals, but for the Intermediate Proposals they can do some readjusting to the feeder zoning. As I said on the Klein ISD Forum, Klein ISD is doing the best they can to provide a comfortable, great enviroment for students. Growth is a good thing and compliment. People are recognizing that Klein ISD is a magnificent district and one of the best in Houston. If I were a Klein ISD Board Menber which I plan to be in about 5 years, I would vote YES to the Elementary Zoning and NO for the Intermediate Zoning. Residents in Gleannloch shouldn't be so upset because in 2009/2010 they are going to be rezoned to Intermediate #9 and High School #5 on the new land purchased on Spring Cypress. A new Elementary is planned for FM 2920 and Huffsmith Korhville. Once again Klein ISD is doing the best they can to provide a better enviroment for students.

  4. Klein ISD is very very unfair when it comes to Bus Service. Klein ISD has over 200 Buses, some that are'nt even in use. For example before Klein Collins, Schindewolf, and Kreinhop opened Klein ISD Subdivision Normandy Forest was zoned to Klein Oak, Hildebrandt and Lemm. Yes, transportation by the district was provided. When Klein Collins and Schindewolf opened they continued to provide transportation. Normandy Forest is separated by Falvel Rd and Ella Blvd from Klein Collins and Schindewolf. The Subdivision is across the street from the 2 schools but not really across the street. Its a pretty far distance between the 2 schools and the subdivision. Things changed when Kreinhop Elementary opened in 2004. Kreinhop was built on Ella Blvd but in between Ella Blvd and Falvel Rd. Normandy Forest is right behind Kreinhop by like 40-50 feet. When the school opened they stopped giving Normandy Forest Bus Service to all 3 campuses because according to Klein ISD "A subdivision can't be adjacent to a campus in order to be elligible for bus transportation". They discontinued bus service to all 3 campuses. Klein ISD should have just stopped transportation from Kreinhop since that campus is adjacent to the subdivision. Why stop giving bus service to a subdivision whos had it for 3 years. If Normandy Forest was'nt elligible to Klein Collins and Schindewolf, why did'nt Klein ISD take bus service away when those 2 campuses opened in 2001 and 2002? Klein ISD does some things in a way that is not understandable. This was also an issue on a former Klein ISD Community Forum when Kreinhop opened in 2004.

  5. My question would be:

Is Klein ISD providing bus service to VISTAS and the IBA? They currently do not for the IB program.

Klein ISD will not provide Bus Service to Klein Forest for the IB Academy. Klein ISD does currently provide Bus Service to Vistas from the student's home campus. 4 Buses unload and load each day to and from Vistas. Klein should provide Bus Service to students going to KF for the IB Academy comming from Klein, Klein Collins and Klein Oak. Its only fair.

  6. I wonder why Klein ISD is locating all of the special campuses in the Klein Forest Zone. Vistas is 1/4 mile from KF, and now the IBA is at KF. I think programs like these should be located in the center of the district for everyones convienence. People who attend these programs from Klein Collins and especially Klein Oak have to travel twice the distance compared to if you attend Klein or Klein Forest. If these programs were in the center of the district everyone would only have to travel 10-15 minutes at the most.

  7. I don't think you have set foot in Alief, but let me tell you, Alief has a shitload of kids. It is a district with a small boundary (almost a third of Katy I.S.D.) and has 60,000 kids. It wasn't too long ago that Elsik High School was winning some achievmant awards and students there were doing good. They still are, so Alief might surprise you if you ever go into it.

I have never seen L. Merrell (the superintendent for Katy I.S.D.), before. I actually don't know what he even looks like. Why does he make so much, but no one ever sees him, except for the people at his office.

If salaries and performance was the way teachers get paid, Merrell would be making $300,000 a year (Katy I.S.D. is rated Recognized and is the largest district in Texas to have that rating).

Shouldn't this be in "Other Houston?"

Trae, What is Atlanta South Forums? Did you really create that website? Why does it talk about Atlanta? Just wondering, Hope you don't mind me asking.

  8. I have an idea for lower-level administrators: If they want to keep their jobs, they should at least teach a few classes or take an increased workload. I would like to see lower-level administrators also double as support staff and/or teach higher-level classes at high schools. I.E. Some administrators for the Central Region of HISD could also double as Electronic Media teachers or Theory of Knowledge teachers at Central Region high schools.

I Agree, Some teachers do deserve to make more than what they make especially coaches, band directors, and performing arts teachers because they puy in way more time and effort in after school activities and programs that they do not get paid extra for.

  9. My wife makes $49,000 a year, that's with a Masters Degree, and her GT Certification Bonus, and she's been teaching for 24 years. There is no way anyone can justify to me making 4 and 5 times that much just to be a Superintenent. I can see them making 2.5 to 3 times that, but not 4 and 5 times that amount. By the time they take out Insurance, TRS, and Taxes she brings home two grand a month. Now I realize they only work 188 days out of the year, but I can't count the nights she's up grading papers until 10 and 11 at night, gets up at 5 in the morning and is in school by 7 am. Grading papers all weekend, and it's BS for them to make that much less than the fat cat administrators, that don't do a 10th of the work the teachers do. She teaches GT Math and Science, has 120+ students to deal with, (Four periods with 30+ students per class), It's BS. She does it because she likes it, because it doesn't pay worth a damn. Teachers with her kind of experience should be making 60K a year, atleast. Teachers starting out these days, and most are strapped with student loans, are starting out at 18-20 grand a year. That's insanity to say the least. that's not much more than minimum wage and these are college graduates we're talking about.

You have a point. What school does she teach at?
