  1. Hey, you can build transit with concrete too.
  2. I think we should build more trails like this in utility corridors. It always seemed like a no brainer to me.
  3. I heard that 4014 "Big Boy" is returning to Houston this year.
  4. Is there any way to transfer it to city control, or else convince the state to allow light rail on it?
  5. I live in the Heights and would love this, but I am worried the new mayor might shoot it down.
  6. What benefits would bringing back more oysters give? Slightly unrelated, but I have seen people claim that there were written accounts of the bay the 1800s that describe huge mounds and reefs of oysters that even sometimes stuck out of the water.
  7. A little bit late, but I would kill to have her as mayor here.
  8. All these suburban proposals should be commuter rail IMO.
  9. The Union Pacific tracks were actually part of the first railroad in the state of Texas.
  10. The only good thing that TXDOT has done in Houston for a long as I have known!
  11. Does anyone know how to convince R's to support trains?
  12. Does anyone want to add the information from this thread into the Wikipedia article?
  13. The metal plates are thermal expansion joints for the concrete. I also know the bridge would not be 30 years old as all the bridges over the bayous that got straightened and concreted had to be replaced.
  14. Can we have more trees and vegetation along the bayou banks and less concrete and metal pilings? Or is flood control and erosion more important than trees (whose roots can actually help prevent erosion) and nature? And any way to have green bayous as opposed to brown would be nice too.
  15. What would be the process to get the road into city control?
  16. I think some of y'all should read this information before you start talking about the brown water in this region: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbidity https://www.epa.gov/caddis-vol2/sediments#suspended2 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_clarity https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/38273/sediment-in-the-gulf-of-mexico https://www.usgs.gov/centers/oklahoma-texas-water-science-center/science/urban-waters-federal-partnership-suspended
  17. What can we do about TXDOT? We were not even able to stop the 45 project.
  18. Can we do this to White Oak or Brays Bayou next? I know it would be harder because those bayous are concrete-lined.
  19. I forgot to mention that I went to Galveston during late June (The same time that the Corpus photos were taken) and the water was clear. Why does the blue water not come all the way to the sand right now like it did in June?
