  1. The Pita Pit on the corner of Fountainview and Westheimer (5887 Westheimer) is no more, it never even opened. They just got the sign up. The landlord put the suite up for lease.

BTW, visit their website, have you seen a more ridiculous mascot?

I understanding the whole "take your product and add human features" to make a mascot, but this pita face borders on creepy.

The one in the Greenway Plaza food court closed. I didn't care for it much personally. I found everything I tried to be incredibly salty. I'm still surprised they closed. It seemed fairly popular.

  2. The Mod of the Month on Arletta is at the end of a culdesac on a secluded street. It's a desirable location in Glenbrook Valley that's booming with new modsters. The Rancho Deluxe on Stony Dell has gigantic rooms, and is on a street with topography that is rare in Houston. It's similiar to the lots in Idylwood that overlook the golfcourse. If you go inside the Stony Dell house do yourself a favor and walk around the yard. From the backyard there's a view of the back of one of Glenbrooks finest mods, one of the Glenview Parade of Homes House from 1954, and also next door to the "Multi Levels of Living House".

Don't miss this chance to see several different styles of homes in Glenbrook. The residents of the hood will be out in force. Several of us have set up private tours of our homes at the request of other HAIFERS. You might see us walking around with Peach Mimosa's !

Looking forward to seeing you all !

We might even share mimosas with HAIFers. Is there some kind of HAIF gang sign so we can identify each other.

  3. Get a load of the size of that dog. I would hate to be the poor soul who takes him on walks and has to poopie scoop behind him.

You'll have to trust me, it's not that hard. The advantage is you never accidentally step in it.

  4. Even if they hadn't ruined the original charm of the interior, this shower stall would still be ridiculously tacky. And, is it just me or does crown moulding in the bathroom seem just a bit pompous?

    2v3qb1e.jpg

I'd have a hangover every morning if I had to use that shower. Headache and dizziness without the benefit of a tasty cocktail.

  5. I'm not sure how many times the point has to be made with respect to the new home construction types but it accomplishes little. Sure it's fun to lambaste the poor choices for replacements of significant architecture (be it post war or contemporary), but constructive activism toward an objective -- say, documentation of a significant structure, securing of existing plans, etc. -- would be far more beneficial than yet another critique of a "mcmansion".

    Just a thought.

Point taken, but I just threw up in my mouth a little when I saw this picture. I know it's not constructive activism, but so be it.

  6. Thank goodness the Sago was near the fence and got spared. It is one of the best I have seen.

Stolitx's house in Glenbrook is a deluxe version of this layout concept.

Just what I was thinking. I dont' know about deluxe, but my house has the pool in the front behind a gate as well. Proudly still standing. And huge Sagos as well.

I just wish I knew the architect of mine.

  7. Sharpstown is also far more family friendly (in the neighborhoods).

Have you been in the neighborhoods of Pasadena? Very family friendly. I grew up there and there was only smell about twice a year, unless you actually live at the refineries. It's too suberban for me, but very family friendly place to raise kids these days, particularly the newer areas near the new shopping centers.

Also I got to second the city services in Pasadena, suberb. My mom called Pasadena to ask when the big trash trucks would be coming to her street next, and they just sent a truck and crew over and picked up the trash that day for her.

  8. True. But if you like George you should get this DVD. It's a really cool and is a nice little tribute to the Dome:

For the Last Time: Live from the Astrodome

    B00007JSKI.01._SS500_SCLZZZZZZZ_V1116740802_.jpg

Actually I was at that show. A friend of mine got tickets. I'll have to check out the dvd.

And just to clarify, I don't stand in line either if I get concert tickets. I meant that more as a figure of speech not literally. Kind of like if I was to say "I got the new George Strait cd" what I probably meant was that I downloaded it from iTunes.

  9. Sugar Land, Pat Green, & ZZ Top. Los Lonely Boys would be good. It's not like I will stand in line for tickets. But hopefully I will know someone with tickets who doens't want these. I've seen all these acts in much more pleasing (read small) venues so I don't work too hard to go.

The first time I saw George Strait was in Gilleys in the 80s. I've seen him at the Rodeo and I just find it annoying to watch a spec spin on a stage.

  10. Glenbrook Valley Holiday Party/Open House

    This Saturday 12/23

    4 pm - 9pm

    7834 Santa Elena

I know there are several new HAIF residents in the area so come say hi. You can see the new kitchen facelift and admire all the work yet to be done :)

  11. For a long time there were two Dillard's in Baybrook Mall. I hated it.

Two of anything in one place is one two many...or sometimes, two too many!

The 2 Dillards in Baybrook, and maybe First Colony?, weren't duplicate stores though. Didn't they split out the merchandise so all women's was in one and men's was in the other. I remember it was like that when they first split into 2 stores in one mall. I hated it too.

  12. I'll never forget the Halloween in the mid 70's in Houston because a guy named O'Bryan had laced some candy with poison and gave it to both of his kids for the insurance money. Luckily the daughter did not consume the fatal treat, but the son did. I think he was from Deer Park or Pasadena (Houston Area).

All of this sucked because of the unrightiousness of O'Bryan, the death of his son, the marks for life for his daughter and family, the fact that O'Bryan received the glorious nickname "the candyman," and the fact that O'Bryan was The Man who killed halloween that way it used to be.

What hit me the hardest was O'Bryan's son was one year younger than myself.

I remember it well since I grew in Pasadena. Before OBryan we were able to visit strangers houses, host halloween games and parties in your garage, enjoy homemade treats, etc. Then nothing.

I'm in another forum that is national. Some how this topic came up on that forum last year. I was surprised that the majority of people had always thought that this story was an urban legend since they were much younger than me and not raised in Houston. They didn't know that Halloween died because of a real case and a real child's murder. One girl called her mom to apologize for calling her paranoid every Halloween.

  13. We enjoyed it. Not too crowded either. It was nice just being at the museum, I haven't been in ages and forgot that I enjoy it.

The exhibit is interesting, not particularly disturbing to me. Mostly we found it hard to realize that it was all real. It was interesting and educational to see the organs that had effects of disease and/or abuse like the smoker's lung, cancer in the body, etc.

Mostly the whole exhibit makes you really think about what a wonderful, amazing thing the body is. I'm so not into anatomy, but enjoyed it overall.

  14. Anyone have tips for going? We were hoping to go today and I saw online that I can buy tickets for a certain time. Does that mean if we're running late we will not be able to get in? We are hoping to go today around 3:30 ish depending on how early I can cut out of work today. We're hoping at that time the afternoon crowds will be heading out and we'll beat the evening crowds.

  15. Hey all,

Thought I'd invite all my online friends to come over to see the house again. We'll be keeping it a little more low key this time, but we're having a veggie-q for my birthday and to celebrate the appearance in Southwest News. We'll also watch the draft day procedings for those interested in football.

Let me know (PM) if you'd like to come.

    BYOB! We'll supply the veggies.

    It's Saturday, April 29th at 2pm

    Jason

I highly recommend any mod fan seeing Jason's home. I probably can't make this one since I'm committed next weekend to Kinky Friedman's campaign. Have fun!
