The building burned down about 10 years ago. There was another hotel there, not sure how long it was a Ramada.

AEW Wrestling coming to the Epicenter on October 18th. Live telecast on TBS.
Looks like a great place for minor league hockey and/or arena football.

The remaining stores became Eckerd's in the late 60s/early 70s.

"Old Alief" is, for the record, the neighborhood north of Alief Middle School, but that is not what this post is about. It's more about YouTube. If you search for Alief on YouTube, you can find lots of neat stuff, like this film (made in the same year that the Texas-centric movie Dazed & Confused is set, and looking pretty much like it):
Looks downright rural. Is that Bellaire Blvd. toward the end of the film? Is that HS football stadium on the same site as the current stadium?

There was a barber shop in the lobby frequented by Dr, Neil Frank.

I always found it strange that channel 39 copied the font used by Fox 26 for their logo in the late 80s/early 90s.

Did it have one of the famous Holiday Inn signs?

The founder of Ron's Krispy Fried Chicken was a KFC franchisee, and he's still in the food business.

Historic Aerials has an "E" shaped building on the site in 1953, 1957 and 1958, and what looks to be the current Fondren Elementary from 1962 forward.
Full Disclosure: I work down the street. It's an interesting mix of industrial/warehouse, relatively new duplexes, a trailer park and old houses.

The current yellow lot at NRG.
There were no-tell motels all along South Main by the dome, I think they shut down sometime in the 80s.

Anyone ever been to this park? I used to come here back in the day! Here's some information about it.

This 8 acre park has a .51 walking trail and is adjacent to Anderson Elementary. Hager Park, with its covered basketball court, is located between Landsdowne Drive and McClearen Dr, and attracts many in the neighborhood for outdoor sports. There is playground equipment and a soccer field.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (around 1975 actually), the summer day camp I was in used to go to a movie at the old Meyerland Theatre (usually a Don Knotts-era Disney movie), then to Hager park. I remember the indoor basketball court.

Greenspoint Mall's owners need to get with a Hollywood movie studio to use the rotting corpse as a prop in an action movie a la the 1985 Chuck Norris flick Invasion USA. Have terrorists or aliens "attack" the mall and blow it to smithereens. Maybe include the Astrodome in the movie too and put two aging ladies out of their misery in a spectacular and profitable way.
Or a chase scene like the Blues Brothers. Of course that particular mall sat abandoned for over 30 years before finally being demolished about 10 years ago.
Add West Oaks to that list. With the theatre closing, there's literally nothing there except the Fortis School.

The same publisher has a book about Sugar Land that's sold at my local Walgreens.

The "new" Imperial Sugar headquarters was later built at that intersection, it's now an empty parking lot and staging area for railroad construction.

I'm told the department store was a Globe. It was something with an auto repair department, the overhead doors are still there. The future International Ballroom. https://www.concertarchives.org/venues/international-ballroom-9f8ac876-9893-40c5-9aed-8a6ef9b4622f?page=1#concert-table

They also had a location across from the AMC theatre at The Fountains in Stafford. Also in Hobby Airport! Miss them.

You sure that's not Meyer Speedway in the pic? Asking cause there looks to be a high school stadium in the background....

Was actually located at Hwy 90 @ Ulrich. If you look at the daytime photo (with the Sugarland Express marquee), you can see in the background the building which is now the Foster Law Firm.

The building's gone. According to a poster on Nextdoor, the land sold for $1 million. The good news is, it won't become yet another gas station/convenience store because it's too close to FBISD property to sell alcohol. Someone also noted that the store was seen in the movie "The Sugarland (sic) Express" which for some reason I haven't seen.
-
Went by the general store site today. Looks like the land's been sold, they've cut some trees down and it looks like they're about to raze the store and houses on the property.
-
There were also radio studios in the building, the old KAUM/97 Rock had studios there.

A few years ago I ran across a local hip-hop act with a "song" called "56 Airline" (the Metro route from Aldine/Greenspoint to downtown).

Does anyone have any information about Harry Shanks Chevrolet? Found a commercial of theirs on a mid 80's tape. One of the cheaper and more desperate ones out there - basically came off as "we're spending money to just become competitive!". This dealership was located at Hwy 6 & Beechnut, later becoming Mike Hall Chevrolet and is now part of the Autonation group.
Now Classic Chevrolet.

The old Clodine General Store (1896) located on the southeast corner of FM 1464 and Westpark Tollway. At one time the little town was gridded out like a typical small town of its time, today you really can't find much more evidence of central Clodine except for this building. It would be wonderful to see it restored and made into a historic preserve, or move it back to its original location if this is not the original spot in which it was built. - Credit FB Vintage West Houston
It would be smack dab in the road if it were moved to its original location. There is some roof damage in the back. Surprised the local homeless aren't squatting there (or maybe they are)...
