  1. Just when we thought we were out of the fog it creeps back in on us...............
  2. Reggie White's Rookie Season Let's see first year in the NFL 1985 played 13 games with Philadelphia: 13 sacks 87 tackles 32 assists 0 fumble recoveries 0 interceptions READ BEFORE YOU POST KIDDO!!!!! And what's the rant about who Seattle's playing? Detroit yea not great Arizona on the other hand is a pretty good team. Definately not Horrible! I take it you are rebutting my example of Daryl Tapp, Well he was also a lot cheaper than a 1st pick and 54 million. Now smart comment for Trent Cole? They signed that guy for NFL minimum wage. I guess the Eagles played HORRIBLE teams too. Aren't you late for the short bus to school? Oh yeah Red Hare just how is Vince Young stinking up the joint? He hasn't even started a game yet, limited play only. I guess you are one of these GURU's that key off of the QB rating system, that has no nomenclature in place to offset the tipped ball interception that of course kills the QB rating formula. QB rating is a farce. Terry Bradshaw and Roger Staubach are good examples. Do you know what Terry Bradshaw's career rating was? 78.3 Staubach? 88.5 I guess they were mediocre! It is important to remember that the system is used to rate passers, not quarterbacks. Statistics do not reflect leadership, play-calling, and other intangible factors that go into making a successful professional quarterback. Adjusted yards per attempt probably hurts the players in vertical offenses more, because of the high penalty for interceptions. But INTs are very costly to a team (check out the winning percentages of teams that lose the turnover battle), so I
  3. However I don't think the point is being understood!!!!!!!!!! YOU DO NOT SPEND THE FIRST PICK OF THE FIRST ROUND ON A PLAYER THAT IS GOING TO TAKE FIVE YEARS TO LEARN HIS PLAYBOOK!!!!!!!!!!! Yes Mario Williams is a huge defensive end, so despite his so called topnotch athleticism, he will never be the explosive-off-the-ball speed/edge rusher as say Dwight Freeney. (coincidentally Freeley was chosen 11th in the draft behind David Carr in 2002) Williams could beat offensive tackles around corner, if he would put out more effort, but not as easily as Freeney can. Do you even watch this guy? He loafs around. If the play is not directly at him he just marks time. He needs to become more consistent getting off the ball explosively every snap. He rarely chases hard after the ball in backside pursuit; he just pulls up and quits chasing. He does not protect legs from low/cut blocks well and can be slowed down by them. He will be out with a major knee issue with in two years if he does not learn to protect his legs. 55 million down the toilet. Let's look at Daryl Tapp DE taken in the 2nd rd by Seattle 63rd pick over all He isn't a full time starter yet he has 6 tackles 2 assists and 2 QB sacks. Mario Williams has started every game has 6 tackles 2 assists and no sacks Let's look at Trent Cole Undrafted 2nd year man Free Agent walk on from University of Cincinnati 8.0 tackles 4 assists 5 QB Sacks 1 deflected pass His rookie season he was a situational player didn't play every game 38.0 tackles 8 assists 5 sacks 2 deflected passes Now, explain to me again why someone shouldn't expect more output from the 55 million dollar boy? I think he should be expected to do a hell of a lot more than he is. It's not like it takes a road scholar to play DE. It does however take effort and dedication, not excuses. As big and fast as he is, he should be blowing off the ball and eating OT's for lunch. He is 6'7" 291 lbs runs a 4.73 40yd he has no excuse except lack of effort. PERIOD. It's not like it was any big secret that he does not attack, he does not consistently impact the play. He goes through some stretches where he does not dominate at the level he is capable of. Every scouting report you read on him warned of this. He should have stayed for his senior year and got his degree, he's gonna need it.
  4. Just got off the phone with Dalton Hilliard, and they are partying down in the Big Easy, sounds like Mardi Gras over the phone. They are jacked up over the 3-0 debut. Plus he had to rib me some about the Texans. They are buzzing in the Cresent City, and this is a town that needs something to cheer about. If they can keep the emotion level up like this, it may be the Saints and Seahawks fighting for the NFC title.
  5. Well said Hokie You have to almost ignore Trae he's a guppy in the Pacific Ocean, trying to act like Jaws New Orleans looked really good. Bush did some solid work. The Double reverse was cute. NO's defense was awsome, they contained Vick which is hard to do. They swarmed the football, which the Texans don't do. Brees was solid at QB for NO, McCallister was solid. ZERO Turnovers solid fundamental football.
  6. USFL Statistics: 1984 16 games 11.0 sack 52 Tackles 43 Assists 0 Fumble Recoveries 1985 16 games 12.5 Sacks 68 Taclkes 30 Assists 0 Fumble recoveries Let's see first year in the NFL 1985 played 13 games with Philadelphia: 13 sacks 87 tackles 32 assists 0 fumble recoveries 0 interceptions Second in All-time NFL career sacks Selected to record 13 consecutive Pro Bowls (1986-1998). Earned 1987 and 1998 NFL defensive player of the year award. Named to the All-Pro team seven times. Were you born in 1985? By the way the word is "produce" stay in school At Tennessee his senior year (1983) he registered a 4 sack game against the Citadel and a 15 sack season. These records along with his total of 32 sacks remain school records. Son stick to something you know whatever that is!
  7. This guy really gets it. He hit the nail on the head. And if he (Williams) wants to start with this crap, he needs to go. Reggie White made a living for 16 years being doubled and tripled, Randy White, Bob Lilly, etc. etc. etc. I compare Mario Williams to Russell Maryland. A waste of a first round pick. Second round is a building block. First pick in the draft is a hit the ground running, rushing or whatever. And he had 2 tackles and 1 assist by the way. That's not an impact player. 5 tackles plus is a decent player 8+ is an impact. Kalu also had two tackles. And in order for him (Williams) to commit a personal foul 15 yards behind someone he would have to be active, that's not going to happen. (i.e. throw a block to try and help advance the fumble) NOT ONE SACK, NOT ONE KNOCKDOWN, M. Brunell 24/27 261 1 TD, do you want to know why? NO PRESSURE WHATSOEVER. He had all day to pass. And any "intelligent" football person knows you draft the best available player. You're telling me Williams was the best available player? Get out of the liquor cabinet. The Texans needed an impact player at any position because they had none and still don't. They do not have a what you would label as a franchise player. DeMeco Ryans is a Rookie thats playing like a veteran, he is always around the football, he's averaging 8.5 tackles per game and 1.33 assists. He selected as the 1st Pick in 2nd Round (33 overall) of 2006 NFL Draft. What a find he was. He may turn out to be an impact, once he gets his reads down a little better. I'd have felt better if they would have burned the first pick on this kid rather than Williams. Ryans is a player, watch him close. Curious to see how Bush plays tonight, this is a big game for them. Something tells me you are going to see why he got the bronze guy @ the NYCAC.
  8. Mario Who? Was he even there today? What a Bargain he was!!!!! Ron Dayne did lead the Texans with 58 yards on 14 carries (4.1 avg.). If he can stay healthy, maybe some promise. Carr was only sacked once that was a record. However I don't think the score reflects the domination Washington had. Next victim!
  9. Here's an intresting link http://www.semiprofootball.org/index.htm Seems the gunslingers were rated 40th on all time defense and 50th on offense. Texans may have a good day with them.
  10. I guess I better order my Pro Bowl tickets now so I can be there to catch Carr in action!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
  11. I agree the line needs huge improvements, I was just making the point of the irony of the trade. I thnk this new GM will be picking up a lot of personel off of the trade markey including OL DL DB LB. Read up on his past, he is definately a mover and a shaker. If McNair has any sense he will let Smith do his thing and with him and Kubiak's past, no one job is safe if they do not step up quickly.
  12. I have been reading up on the new GM Smith, he is definitely a mover and a shaker in the trading dept. Perhaps this player Gado can put some punch in the running game. It's ironic that the Texans passed over the Heisman Trophy winner, for "no show" Mario and now have traded for Samkon Gado, who was originally signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent from Liberty University, who incidentally was completely passed over through 7 rounds of drafting in 2005, and who has nothing near the potential of Bush. I know I know "dead horse" , I just thought it was ironic. Well they are trying have to give them that, what's next? QB!
  13. You hit the nail on the head, No glory since the days of Billy Cannon and George Blanda. There was a brief glint in the Luv Ya Blue Era, and they screwed that up. Cursed perhaps, makes you wonder. And then the Oilers leave town and boom, play one of the best Superbowl games in history. Though they lost they lost with dignity and had no reason to hold their heads down. Dramatic to the very last second. Now you are left with just what you described, yet another disappointing football franchise.

  15. You want to know how to build a football team? (including three yrs in the playoffs.) Sounds Like a plan that works
  16. Okay I see Rick Smith from the Broncos.....they were 13-3 last year.....maybe a light at the end of the tunnel, it's just a ways off, a lot of damage to overcome, but this guy appears to be a wheeler dealer on the free agent market, now that's a plus. Established players, veterans, would be a step in the right direction. Get rid of the dead weight. If Carr struggles early, Kubiak should turn to backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels. Rosenfels outperformed Carr in training camp and in the preseason. Hopefully David Carr is on a short leash. Give him an honest shot to pick it up (new system) but not an entire season, if he's gonna lead the team then lead it. Kubiak is a QB guru, if he can't help him, there is no help. They have got to get a big game RB and one dangerous receiver. The rest can balance out. If they can keep the other team guessing they are gonna make progress, if they can't they are dead.
  17. Well hell I guess I need to pick up a Chronicle every now and again, who'd they hire? Let me guess some from Kubiak's past? Usually work's that way when you are in a bind. Run to what's familiar. I'll have to read up on the. I stand to be corrected as far as Casserly.
  18. Be careful who you call a fairweather fan, I'm no fan at all of the Texans, I simply made an observation. I have been a non fan of any Houston franchise since Bud Adams shafted Bum Phillips. I was a big Jeff Fisher fan and still am, just can't stand Bud Adams. I am so anti Bud Adams, I won't sell my crude through Gulfmark, it will sit in storage first. I have tried to keep an open mind and a sit back and watch with the Texans. I have no real issues with Bob McNair but he hired an udder idiot in Casserly. Casserly has managed to escape intense media criticism by being a regular leaker to sportswriters, who feel beholden to the jackass for giving them not-for-attribution scoops. It's the same thing politicians do to the media in Washington and Austin. How about personnel moves that didn't pan out, most notably the high draft pick used on quarterback Heath Shuler, who proved a bust. Desmond Howard in 1992. Coincidentally, in the same season that Casserly and the 'Skins wasted a first-rounder on Howard, they gave up on a 12th-round pick from 1991 named Keenan McCardell. The draft record and win record speak for itself. Fast forward to the present. Tackle Tony Boselli, Casserly's first selection in the expansion draft, was one of the biggest mistakes in NFL history who retired in 2003 due to chronic shoulder problems and never played a down for the team. Carr, the jury is still out, but he looked awfully like a damn rookie out there today. Dom Capers is gone mixed emotions about that, didn't have much to work with and Casserly served him up to save his own ass. He thinks Gary Kubiak is going to be terrific, and with Casserly collecting the information and Kubiak making the final call, their partnership might work. His partnership with Dom Capers didn't work. But if you evaluate his decisions as they look today, he deserved to go. He deserved to be fired. His staying is a poor reflection of Bob McNair's leadership. Why doesn't he hold people accountable? Here's why, because he's too close to the decision-making. He comes to practices, sits in on meetings and even showed up at Vince Young's pro day. When you are this close to action, the alibis of your staff about mistakes become your alibis. Owners should evaluate one thing, the win-loss record. In the end, nothing else matters. If the personnel people and coaches are doing their job, the won-loss record will reflect it. If not, they should be able to explain what went wrong. All personnel people make mistakes. At some point, it should be easy to decide if the personnel people have done their jobs well. No matter what input coaches had, Casserly was the general manager when those bad draft picks were made. He was also GM when Todd Wade and Gary Walker got big contracts, when Phillip Buchanon was acquired, etc. Are you telling me Mario Williams is Akeem the dream, the only dream is the dream you're having about that point. More like Ralph Sampson. Big and rangey but not a franchise player. Bob Lilly, Randy White, L.T., Reggie White; those are defensive players that are franchise players. How can you believe that Bob McNair is serious about building a Super Bowl contender when you allow your GM to pass on arguably two of the most gifted and talented players in NCAA history? Answer that one with something remotely that makes any sense. Do you even watch college ball? What is the object of the draft? To draft the best available athlete possible. It's worked out well for years. You tell me that Mario Williams was the best athlete available? Dream on. Get rid of Charley Casserly and they may have a chance. Until then they are doomed. PERIOD.
  19. Simple answer: You have the first pick in the draft, you pass over the two greatest offensive weapons to come across the draft in a decade, you chose an unknown defensive lineman from NC sign him to a $54 million dollar deal, of which Williams is guaranteed $26.5 million. You have no offense, you have a half-assed defense, what did you really exspect. Vince young would have given his heart and soul to play for his hometown. What I've seen of Bush thus far looks better than the entire Texans offense combined. Texans general manager Charley Casserly needs to shoot himself and insure that he doesn't breed any more stupidity of his genetic makeup into the world.
  20. West U, Is there any possibility he was Marvin Fillip? He was simply known as Fillip, a lot of people didn't really know him as anything but Fillip. I have one old photo of Marvin Fillip in his super modified @ Meyerland Speedway. I will post it, and see if it rings any bells.
  21. Quick some body pass me the traquilizer gun hurry!!!!!!!!!!!!!
