  1. No matter what they do to this property, nothing could be as beautiful as the majestic oak trees on the property. I took these just today.
  2. This is the monorail that was at South Main at the intersection with Holmes. I assume that was Arrowhead Park. We passed the location many times on the way to and from Seargent, but I never saw it up close. It was a good half to one mile off Main. But then, I guess I did after all! I rode the one at the State Fair in 1957. I never knew the two were one and the same.
  3. Some of my favorite Mexican food places are the ones that search you at the door for weapons, and if they don
  4. Musicman, we used to go to Spanish Flowers, but now we go to
  5. I have never found better fajitas than at Pappasito's. They are somewhat overpriced, but you really can't beat their quality.
  6. Don't remember Pipe Organ Pizza, but Village Inn Pizza was a hot spot. It was on Westheimer near Chimney Rock if I recall correctly. They had entertainment, and one of the most popular performers was Dean Scott. He was known for his Wolfman Jack impressions, and that was before anyone knew who the Wolfman was. Scott also performed often at a popular place on Market Square.
  7. I believe that was Victoria Station. Their specialty was prime rib.
  8. Will Horwitz was one of the most beloved men in Houston. I was made aware of him from the Channel 8 series,
  9. I suppose if I had some strong desire to serve some geek-neck clams or hamster brisket, I would probably check at Central Market because they have just about anything you could want. But for normal produce and other goods, I think their prices are highway robbery! If I can
  10. Wow! They keep pushing the Rodeo later and later each year. The parade used to be in early February. Now it
  11. The "Light Circus" part does sound familiar. I never went there. I went to The Cellar once, and realized that was not my cup of tea. This was back in my high school days. It was not until after I got out of the Navy that the brain began fritzing out. Musta been the Agent Orange aftereffects, huh?
  12. You didn't by chance mean "Playland Park", did you? That was Houston's primere amusment park for years. It was at South Main at Murworth. Playland shut down around the early to mid '60s.
  13. dbig, you missed the point. Visitors want to see the Dome, not because it is beautiful, but because it is The Astrodome. Most first-time visitors I have known said the two things they really wanted to see was NASA and The Astrodome.
  14. Anybody ever see the Cadillac Ranch outside Amarillo? Well, I have. We drove out of our way just to go by and see it. It is ugly. It is gaudy. But it was there, and I had never seen it, so I drove over just to see it because it was famous.
