Historic Houston Visionaries & Most Prominent Socialites

It was often said of George Hermann that he had the first dollar he ever made. Other than a failed attempt to give a block of land for a charity hospital, he never gave a cent to charity. When he died in 1914, his gifts to Houston included Hermann Park as well as nearly $5million for his long desired charity hospital. BTW, the name Hermann was pronounced- 147 replies

Houston Potential Projects That Were Never Built
Heights2Bastrop replied to Subdude's topic in Houston Neverbuilt
Yeah, but once they bathed it in bright blue light, it would have been transformed into a thing of beauty! -
Thatnk, Subdude! They can tear down those old icons from the past, but no one can destroy the memories of them.

Do you have a photo of Pier 21 Restaurant? It was on Main or Fannin just south of Holcomb. The front center of the building was the prow of a ship. I went to a number of dances at Sylvin Beach including (ahem) both of my senior proms. Anyone ever go there before? Is it still in operation?

Yeah, but who would want to be a Teasip from Lamar? Keep in mind this question comes from a Reagan Rat. -

Just a bit of trivia here. Northwest Mall and Almeda Mall both opened at the same time. They were duplicates of each other, not only in the architecture, but in that they had the same stores in each. All the shelves in all the stores were stocked exactly alike.

I thought Houston was going to get it for sure, especially when the Houston Group offered both Janet and Michael in the deal!
