  1. Well, it is located on the corner or POST OAK Place and POST OAK Parkway, and 100 yards from POST OAK Park.
  2. A&M just needs to build more dorms on-campus so less people would have to drive from off-campus.
  3. Very nice! Although it is sad to see one of my most visited buildings change so much, this will be a great upgrade for the University.
  4. I hope they eliminate some of that sprawl and allow it to be more of a walkable campus like the Main Campus. Let's not make this another West Campus design.
  5. Why does every thread have to turn into a suburb vs city bash Well, it is under design, so that's a start.
  6. Yeah, it looks better in the close up renderings than in the far away renderings. Of course, they are all just renderings, so I'll save my judgment until I see the real thing completed next year.
  7. That's actually a different building that the thread got on a tangent to. But, of course the building shown will be the largest on campus only to be triumphed by this $100 million engineering building a few years after.
  8. Yeah, I know it won't. But, I've always thought it was kind of strange that two of the 11 (or 13) A&M system schools don't have the words "Texas A&M" in their name. Texas A&M University Texas A&M University at Galveston Texas A&M University at Qatar Texas A&M University
  9. I always thought they should change the name to Texas A&M - Prairie View, but I don't think that will ever happen. I guess the building looks a little better from other angles:
  10. Interesting. Were their plans to match the architecture of the Academic Building? Were they going to put a building on each side or just one big one one side? Or was anything that specific ever discussed? The new location will be better in keeping everything together. I liked the idea presented in the campus master plan where parking garages with an facade matching the Administration building flanked it's sides. Maybe they will still do that one day. I just hope a lot of thought goes into the architecture of such a large building, I'm still not sure what to think of this one:
  11. It'll be the first major building east of Bizzell, so it'll look out of place - but where else could you put it? The engineering area is full with the exception of the area between TTI and Zachry, the land north of Zachry, and the land east of CE. All of those areas are too small for a building of this magnitude now that the campus master plan limits buildings to 4 stories. Those "Alternative Locations" are absolutely horrible though. The latest I've heard was that they would build parking garages that would have the same architecture as the Jack K. Williams Administration Building in those spots. They should stick with that idea. Notice though, that the description of the location in the article doesn't match up with the picture they show (picture shows across from Wisenbaker, not Zachry). I wonder which one is correct.
  12. I still can't believe Lo-track didn't pass. It would've made the whole area easier to travel and look a whole lot better. Even after all is said and done there still will not be an underpass at Old Main, it's not in the plans. While on the subject, the University at Wellborn overpass needs some much needed aesthetic upgrades. Ross Street was scheduled to been completed with the whole New Main construction 3 or 4 years ago but once they started building the Jack E Brown ChemE building (and thus closing Spence Street) they couldn't continue since it would cut off access to the central part of campus. I was told that either Spence Street or Ross Street needs to be open at all times because of deliveries needed for research in the Chemistry Building. It will be interesting to see how they widen it and add a median though. There is a lot of room between the north side of the street and the buildings, I wonder if the trees that are there now, just to the north of Ross street, will become the median and another 2 lane road placed in what is now sidewalk. The physics buildings sound interesting. Hopefully there will be a rendering of the upcoming buildings on the Michael Graves and Associates web site soon. This Life Sciences center sounds interesting. The future largest building on campus. Hard to imagine. It will change the whole center of campus, but I guess that's what they are going for. I'm glad to see some of these parking lots go, even though it means inconvenience to some. I just wonder how long it will take for additional parking garages to come up to take their place like these two from the CMP.

  14. June 12, 2005 7:56 AM A&M weighs leases for new facilities ... A&M officials are giving private developers from across the nation the chance to develop this pair of attractively located university properties north of campus. The deal: Any company willing to front the capital can lease the land and develop commercial, residential and academic buildings near campus, said Bill Perry, A&M
