  1. 1) we need a thread for the Linbeck building! Thanks swtsig 2) can't Linbeck and Hines just play together and build one 82 story building? then everybody wins!!
  2. I wonder if there are offices above where the roof starts to slant i.e., is that just a box tower with a decorative slanted roof?
  3. Love the design. It somewhat reminds me of the Devon Tower in Oklahoma City, which in my opinion is a true beauty. That one is 50 stories, 850 feet. It would be a shame if this one doesn't go higher -- I think it has the potential to be a real positive impact on the downtown skyline, and tenants would pay for that prestige.
  4. lol yeah I don't think the owner of the real estate is going to sell the property to the city at a discount. They're not exactly in the business of charity. There are a lot of other profitable ideas that will trump your suggestion. Nice wishful thinking though.
  5. right, but Finger's block extends farther north past Union Station. Perhaps from the northern block you could see in, if it's tall enough
  6. Actually you know what would be awesome -- if they had a flat roof on top of the apartments, and you could have events/parties up there overlooking the game. a la Wrigley Field in Chicago. That would be cool (of course assuming you could see thought the glass wall when the roof is shut...)
  7. The city needs to at least bargain with Finger if Finger wants to take that street. Use it as a negotiating chip. I'd go for street level retail, personally
  8. just putting some pieces together from another thread, I might guess Apache building something in the Galleria area?
  9. Today, it appears they are lowering the containment box onto the Embassy Suites. Hopefully it works better than the one in the Gulf!
  10. Love the design, but I'll believe it when I see it. The announcement seems pretty "timely", given the conference talks that are going on, and $30M for naming rights, is just silly.
  11. guys - looks like a false alarm on the turbine blades. These look like pipes, not blades. Apologies if anybody got excited.
  12. It looks like they may be installing them right now. I'm sitting in my office (One Houston Center) watching the crane lift long white objects (turbine blades?) from on top of the parking garage. There's about 10 or 15 of these white objects on top of the garage right now, and they've been lifting them for a while. They may not be blades, but rather some component of the roof or something....not sure. The picture I tried to take with my blackberry isn't able to zoom in close enough. Sorry!
  13. Taken this morning using my Blackberry phone, from my office building. You can see the taller floor that's been built, but what's hard to see from my lousy picture is that it appears the the tall columns in the taller floor are made of steel, not concrete like the rest. I'm assuming the steel will be removed later once the rest of the structure is in place around it.
  14. Here's a camera phone pic I took at the Rice baseball game on Sunday night. Not the best quality, I know
  15. From my office window (in One Houston Center), I look down at the site. Right now there are two guys there measuring the lot - not surveying, it looks like they have a long string or some kind of measuring tape. There's also a taco truck there, probably for the workers finishing up One Park Place. I might go grab one for lunch
  16. As a Rice baseball season ticket holder, I was there as well. Watching the Methodist Inpatient building rise has been quite entertaining. The number of cranes visible from my seat always shocks me....in a good way on another note: watching Rice baseball games is truly one of the best bangs for your buck if you're a baseball fan in Houston. More people are starting to realize that, including a ton of non Rice-grads. If the Astros continue their poor play, maybe Rice will become more of Houston's "team".
  17. I noticed last night on my way home from work that they started putting the glass cladding on the building. One floor has gotten the glass installed.
  18. Surely the February HBJ rendering isn't what they plan on going with there. That rendering is Deyaar's Burlington at Business Bay project in Dubai. Would they just copy another project and plop it in Houston?
  19. I can see the beacon from my roof-top deck, and it points up at a decent angle. I noticed it last night as I was watching the fireworks over uptown. Might even require more like 120 stories to be hit, given the fact that the Deyaar building would be along Richmond
  20. If you notice the Transco beacon, it points up at an angle. It would probably take a 100+ story building to be in the path of that light, given that the Deyaar land is a little ways down Post Oak from Transco
  21. I hope the hotel is a Peninsula. I stayed in the one in Chicago and it's simply awesome. Either that or a Mandarin Oriental. I stayed at theirs in Miami and thought it was incredibly nice, also. I wouldn't call the Ritz a "very, very high end" 5 star hotel. Simply a 5 star hotel. 4 Seasons is in the Ritz category Maybe a Burj-Al-Arab - Houston? Now that would be cool
