In the Facebook group "You Know You're From Bryan/College Station When....." John Ellisor posted a picture of the 9/5-6/2023 demolition (and also of the late 1970's construction) of the former Tinsley's building on Villa Maria near Texas Ave.
In the comments of that post, the daughter of the landlord of another location of Tinsley's in Bryan stated it was (at least at one time) at the intersection of 20th and Texas Ave.

The former Bryan Municipal Golf Course is in the process of a major redevelopment. Big Shots Golf & Entertainment has already opened on the site, a large multi-purpose event center is under construction, and now this:

This is news to me. "Fitch" from a popular Texas A&M forum got the ball rolling on this, big time, he would likely know more details. This at least looks promising, even if vague.

Blinn College, Texas A&M celebrate RELLIS Campus groundbreaking
QuoteIn May 2016, Chancellor Sharp announced plans to create a new research and development campus to help companies move ideas from the laboratory to the marketplace, while also offering a new path toward a college degree. One aspect of the RELLIS Campus plan involves the development of a multi-institutional Gateway Education Center that will provide space for Texas A&M System member institutions and Blinn to offer a variety of curricula.
“This relationship between The Texas A&M University System and Blinn College is literally the envy of community colleges and universities all over the United States of America,” Sharp said. “This is how you make sure that students take courses that transfer – you talk to each other, and that is what these two institutions have been doing for 30 or 40 years.”- 2

Making progress for future RELLIS campus
QuoteOfficials are preparing to begin several new construction projects at the 2,000-acre site. A&M System officials said many of structures targeted for demolition on the 2,000-acre campus are "decaying warehouses" that will be replaced with academic and research and development facilities over the next few years. Not all of the older structures on the campus are set to be torn down, however. Officials said facilities such as the chapel, flight tower, hangers and water tower that remain from the campus' days as the former Bryan Air Base will be preserved.

Former Bryan Air Force Base to be transformed into multimillion-dollar research hub and education center over next few years (May 2, 2016)
QuoteTexas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp announced this morning that the Riverside campus soon will be transformed into a multi-million technology and testing research hub, while a unique educational center will be built along side it.
The 1,900-acre campus adjacent to Texas 47 and Texas 21 — land developed in 1942 for the Bryan Army Air Base and acquired by Texas A&M 20 years later — already is home to the Texas Transportation Institute and Texas A&M Engineer

Nice pictures, thanks for the updates. Both of those buildings are in Bryan, the southern portion of Atlas will be in College Station, though by agreement Bryan will receive a direct benefit from taxes from that area as well.

Thanks for the updates!

Here are some pictures I took last year of the completed Military Walk:

Odd that *** bar would be censored. I think I heard that there was indeed one there. Somewhere in that area was a place called Fish Richard's that seemed to be very popular as well.

That was China Garden, in an old Mr. Gatti's. You entered on the ground level and then there was a larger sunken level. As a Mr. Gatti's, there was a projector TV at one end of the restaurant.
It closed then a few years later was torn down to make way for a gas station, which lasted a few years, that was torn down for the current Walgreens at Texas and Villa Maria.(2015 edit: I believe the China Garden building may have lasted longer than I said. I believe only the Soundwaves buildings were demolished for the gas station, and then the China Garden building and the gas station torn down for the Walgreens.)

Shipwreck Grill is the new name for The Boat, the location opened as Captain's Seafood.

The MSC is now closed for three years and is fenced off from the rest of campus in hopes that the maximum amount of work can be done. Here are a few links added to the MSC site since this thread was posted:

I agree about getting rid of the other sidewalks, it seems to me most will likely be drawn to the nice, wide Military Walk anyway. Why keep the sidewalks that were often orinally sidewalks for Military Walk when it was more of a street, or that were actually built to replace the walk in 1971? Doesn'y seem to make much sense.
Here are a few renderings from A&M's Facebook Page:

Historic Military Walk Being Restored
Texas A&M University press release
August 4, 2009
Military Walk, the history-laden passageway in the heart of the Texas A&M University campus, will soon be brought back to life – and on an even grander scale than when thousands of Aggie cadets trod on it daily decades ago.
Located in the central area of campus, Military Walk links the Sbisa Dining Hall area and the northside residence halls to the Rudder/Memorial Student Center Complex on its south end. Along the way, it passes along several historical campus landmarks, such as the Academic Building , Fish Pond and the YMCA Building .
Work is scheduled to begin on the $4 million restoration project later this month. When completed, it is expected to become a major focal point for Aggies – cadets and others – as well as for faculty, staff and visitors.
Military Walk evolved from its original use into a street, which was closed in 1971 and redesigned as a walkway. Current plans call for the walk to be redeveloped to appear similar to the way it looked before 1971 and to once again become the site of academic processions, such as those held during Academic Convocation, and military marches by the Corps of Cadets.
The project is expected to be completed next spring.
