  1. I think I'm outside the loop on this one. (ouch... did I just say that?) I definately need to put some time aside and read through all the info pineda has posted on this topic. I used the projected corridor from sugarland to katy a while back to take my parents to see that Forbidden City museum. I remember thinking that it seemed convenient but also wondered how useful it was going to be and just how expensive. Is it projected to releave much stress on the inner rings? Reminds me of electron shells... each layer has slighly more energy but has to spred it relatively thin over the greatly increasing surface area. ie reduced returns.
  2. I was down there earlier today looking at properties. Elgin is indeed under quite a bit of repair. I didnt see any work on the sidewalks. I walked around Baldwin Park for awhile. Kind of sad. Beautiful trees. No maintenance of the grass. Empty sand box. No swings on the swings. Nice jogging trail though if you can stand a 1/10th of a mile loop. I'm still not sold on the area. Oh yeah almost forgot. What is that Ventara @ Midtown over at 4001 Fannin. Damn thats ugly. Are they going to paint the top of that thing or leave it that nasty yellow color? Rental, I'm assuming. Its like 8 stories high.. what a behemoth. It takes up the whole block between San jac and Fannin. *shudder*
  3. This is the new expansion of MD Anderson that when up on the south side of Holcombe. I like the lines and think it makes a great addition to the TMC skyline. Its ready for move in now although friends of mine arent making the move over until March. Location: 1220 Holcombe Boulevard and Bertner Avenue, just across the street from M. D. Anderson
  4. ..like "no opinion" no comment or like "dont you know?" no comment?
  5. Any comments on the Park Lofts at 1602 Elgin, south side of Baldwin Park. 2/1.5 units seem to go for 175k. Thanks.
  6. Thanks. I didn't realize it was a KBR project, or at least part of it (phase 2). If anyone knows of similar information from the Fort bend side of the project I would be very interested.
  7. Are there any good online maps detailing this tollway and possibly the suggested additions? all I found was: houstonfreeways
  8. Personally, I don't mind the downtown nightscape we have now. I like the subtle projected colors more that big bright lights and stuff. Although I do also like the Fort Worth nighttime skyline and it is full of bright lights and different colors. I always enjoyed it more that Dallas. But that observation is at least 10 years old. Things could have changed. I also have a thing for the rotating light atop William's tower. I'm maritime at heart. Thanks Ssullivan. They ended up naming the gay rugby cup after him. He was one of the guys that charged the cabin... "Let's Roll". Melissa Ethridge wrote a song about him (album: Lucky song: Tuesday Morning). I was lucky to be his friend.
  9. Now that I think about it I think there is one at woodlands mall too. Obviously I havent been putting my skates to good use.
  10. Sorry for the off-topic but you guys got me going down memory lane. I also caught the second plane crash. Was very surreal. I lost both my uncle, Battalion Chief Matty Ryan, FDNY Manhattan, Battalion 1 and my High School roomate, Mark Bingham, in flight 93. Messed up. I was still in shock when a month later we lost that fire captain here in Houston at the Four Leaf fire.
  11. One of those new MD Anderson buildings is solely being built to house one treatment machine. The machine is HUGE. Proton Therapy Center -Location: Old Spanish Trail -Construction Start: May 2003 -Move In: October 2006 -Facility Use: Patient treatment with proton beam therapy -Approximate Cost: $120 million -Total Square Footage: 87,000 sq ft Overview Construction of the 78,000-square-feet Proton Therapy Center (PTC) began in May 2003. The facility is a collaborative effort between several organizations. The radiation oncology facility use proton beam therapy in the fight against cancer. Construction Activity (Last Updated: 11/17/04) The project achieved substantial completion October 1 and crews continue installing equipment. The construction trailers are now being moved offsite.
  12. I'd go for another Ice Rink. Am I right in assuming that Memorial City and the Galleria are Houston's only rinks? Isn't there some kind of Tennis Club downtown on top of a parking garage? Any info on that? (and yes... I'm going to do a web search for it right now)
  13. I've never seen Hard Rock get much business. Not that I ever went there much.
  14. I never go to Bayou Place. I suppose I'm the culprit to be blamed for its failure. I too thought it was a interesting place when it first opened.
  15. I had to get a Brazilian work visa a few years ago. No fun jumping through those hoops. Customs was a bear too. Although they were tougher on my european counterparts. Mexico was actually the worst of my trips abroad when it came to customs though. They wanted us to fully disassemble the vessel I was on because our new corporate policy was not to grease the gears the way we used to. Our manager no longer had a slush fund to feed them with and they were gonna make us pay. The boat ended up sailing from port in the dead of night hoping that it was all a bluff and the navy wasnt gonna come blow it out of the water. No bueno. ps. I jumped ship and took a plane.
  16. The Indonesian Consulate has its own building just outside the beltway on Richmond.
  17. Very Interesting. Forwarded it to a few friends in pearland. I've been wondering what was going to happen with that Kirby extension. I wonder if there will be any more plans for the supposed rail extension down almeda aswell.
  18. Personally, I think Beltran is just a victim of his sports agent. They swim with the lawyers.
  19. Hmm well lived in Houston 7 years. Been to 10 Astro's, about 25 Aero's, 0 Rockets, 0 Comets, and 0 Texans games. The Astro games were all corporate private room deals, never would have paid for it myself. I would like to catch a Comet game though.
  20. I'm not much of a sports fan but I do like to watch a game from time to time. Mainly hockey, so I'm a little out of my league (bad pun.. apology apology..). I would be interested in knowing which current day sports figures would make good role models, in y'alls opinions. I mean I sure wish these guys had some sense of 'Team' or city. I hate watching people like Randy Johnson and Caminiti (RIP) jump around from team to team. Wheres the loyalty in that? Are there major leaguers (of any sport) out there that have turned down huge pay spikes to stay with there buds? Or taken a major raise and given it to Jerry's kids? What about Pat Tillman?? Or has the bar been raised so high physically with Performance Enhancers that the the morally pure folk are now coaching lacrosse at St. Johns? (Go Bruins!)
  21. I never give money to pan handlers. I have asked if they are getting any assistance from an organization or church that I can donate to and have gotten the varied responses you can imagine. There was a guy down in Galveston hanging outside a Jack in the Box asking for food money. I was going through the drivethru and I told him to just give me his order and I'd buy it for him. He told me to **** off. I also had a romantic get-away to San Fran with a girl friend of mine and we were plagued by panhandlers that whole trip. In the end she gave me a bunch of flack for not feeling charitable for them. It wasnt the reason we broke up but it contributed. I'm minorly charitable when it comes to the Women's Shelter, Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Clothing drives like the Disabled Vets but I just refuse to give money out of my pocket to someone I don't know and have no idea what it will be used for. Especially the guy in a late model mercedes always at the same gas station asking for the 2 dollars to get him enough gas to get home
  22. Maybe its a devil's advocate kinda thing? I welcome the opposing perspective. I was on a jury once that was ready to convict as soon as we hit chambers. One little old lady played devil's advocate and really got us all thinking about it. We still convicted but I'm very appreciative for the chance to debate the issue at hand instead of complacent acceptance.
