  1. The original Buick dealership on Kirby was DeMontrond, which opened in 1953.....
  2. A bit of trivia from my wife, who went to high school in the '60's with one of the girls of the Prince family, the MacDonald's family were cousins of the Prince family.
  3. I remember Chuckwagon well, from the 60's; there was one in the Griggs/OST area. Wheel Burger, Hub Burger and Spoke Dogs and huge drinks!!
  4. It was a convention venue, for example, the Fat Stock Show & Rodeo used it, etc.

  6. You're right...it's only been 43 years since I was last there. I'm glad I can remember a street name that's close by.
  7. I remember Palm Center, on O.S.T. I believe it opened in 1955 and was the first, or one of the first, "shopping centers" in Houston.

  12. There was also a folk music club in the 1960's called Sand Mountain, on Richmond. My wife an I, when we were dating, used to go there.
  13. FilioScotia, Well said...I went to 4th grade in the MacGregor Park area in 1957 and I had a good friend who lived in a trailor park, possibly the one mentioned. I loved his "house".....I thought it was so neat, like living in boat. In those days the trailers were long and narrow, more like a very long motor home.
  14. There was also a worldwide fascination with anything Egyptian in the 1920's due to the discovery of King Tut's tomb.
  15. I remember going to the Al Ray in 1965 with my wife to be, in fact, on our first date. We saw "Zorba the Greek". In those days it showed foreign films and was one of the few place to see European films.

I remember going to a baseball game the first year it opened, it was a thrill, nothing like it in its day......but here's a bit of trivia few people will remember, I believe it was 1966 and I watched SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) sports car road racing on the roads/parking lots surrounding the Astrodome. It was done only once.
  17. Alfred's...a great place....I remember going to the original one on Almeda in the early 60's....wonderful roast beef sandwiches.

  19. The picture I posted is the original building that opened in 1906 at 3901 Fannin.
  20. Here's a picture of the original St. Agnes built in 1906. My wife attended there the last 2 years it was open, 1962-63 and then 2 years at the current campus on Bellaire Blvd.
  21. It was Demontrond Buick before Hub and was at that location for many years.
  22. There was also a famous casino in Galveston called the Hollywood Club, on Stewart Road, near Jones Road. I remember seeing it in the early 50's, when I was a boy.
