  1. Interesting trivia - DQ was founded in 1940 in Joliet, IL, not in Texas.
  2. That's the River Oaks Country Club.....the original Cullen mansion was a block up the street, on the left...the NW corner of Inwood Dr. and River Oaks Blvd.
  3. That must be the Norton that started the Norton Ditto Men's Store in 1908. I used to shop at their store on Main St. in the 1960's and early 1970's.
  4. In the 60's and 70's Tennis was the major recreational sport for the 21 to 35 crowd.........
  5. The design elements come from Aztec influences, that were popular at the time.

  8. I remember the Railhead was one of the first restaurants that had a large salad bar.
  9. Based on the photograph this looked like a real "drinking" club!!
  10. I also drove an Alfa 1750 Spyder in the early 70's that I bought at Joe Locario's SW Motors.
  11. I'm sure the mission was flight training for the US Army Air Force. There were air fields all over Texas doing flight training during WWII. Texas was one of the most active areas because of good weather year around.
  12. Trader Vic's was nationally known. In the 60's they were in Oakland, San Francisco, Dallas and Houston.......
  13. In keeping with the nautical theme, a "Gulf" station was across the street and a "Shell" station was on the opposite corner......

  16. Definitely the real Elvis, he preformed in Texas in the mid-50's.
  17. I went to both the Taft and S. Main locations and the people that worked there pronounced it An-tones.....
  18. I hope whoever converts the building does the proper testing for and cleanup of the toxic chemical perchloroethylene (PERC) used for dry cleaning.
